UFC 318 'Embedded,' No. 4: Fortune telling on Bourbon Street and a meeting with Saints
UFC 318 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) takes place Saturday at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
In the headliner, Max Holloway (26-8 MMA, 22-8 UFC) will try to play spoiler against Louisiana local hero Dustin Poirier (30-9 MMA, 22-8 UFC), who will retire after the fight in front of his home fans. Poirier has two previous wins over Holloway in 2012 and 2019, making it a 13-year rivalry trilogy.

Borderlands 4 has had its fair share of marketing mishaps, from Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford saying "real fans" would find a way to pay $80 for it to a collector's edition that isn't a collector's edition and doesn't even contain the game. But a new trailer is already at over 100,000 views on YouTube, and Pitchford says we need to get sharing it if we want to see more like it. The trailer is actually a narrative short film that introduces the backstory of Rafa, a new Vault Hunter. Raised in an asteroid belt, he can't handle planetary gravity without the aid of an exosuit developed by the Tediore corporation. It plays out a Robocop-esque scene where the exosuit is paraded in front of shareholders, and deadly violence ensues. It's a blunt-but-funny parody of the kind of capitalism we're all too familiar with these days – maybe even a parody of the video games industry itself. Making the parody even more real is Pitchford himself, who tweets: "If you like this kind of thing instead of normal commercials, please share and retweet. Those numbers directly impact the decisions made in the suit meetings and conference rooms." The kinds of conference rooms and suit meetings being explicitly mocked in the trailer...? We can debate until the cows come home if it's possible to effectively critique a system such as capitalism from within it, but here we are. According to Anthony Slater and Shams Charania, ESPN's NBA Insiders, the Warriors do not like any offers that they have received for Kuminga and are mentally preparing to retain him on the team for the coming season. 'The Warriors, as of right now, have shunned all sign-and-trade offers,' Charania said on 'SportsCenter' with Slater and Malika Andrews. 'Right now, what we see is a stalemate between both sides, as both sides are at a crossroads for a player who believes he has not been given the full amount of opportunity in Golden State." "As of right now, they are shutting down sign-and-trade talks and have found nothing appealing there. And they believe he's going to be on the roster. Their stance is that he will be on the roster to start next season, and if that's the qualifying offer, then that's what it is," Slater further added. "The concern there, the flip side of that is the messiness of this. It's already become a kind of messy restricted free agency. How about when this gets to training camp, how about when the veterans are around, looking around, and saying, is this going to be a distraction in one of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green's final contention seasons?" "I think that's where there is a potential pivot point, a breaking point in this. But as of now, as Shams mentioned, it's a stalemate, and it continues to be messy," concluded Slater. Now, since the Warriors shut the doors on any potential trade for Jonathan Kuminga, he has two options going forward if he wants to continue in the NBA. He either has to accept the qualifying offer, which he doesn't want to do, wait out the next season to become an unrestricted free agent, or accept an extension offer that the Warriors are presenting him with, which, as of their last offer, was a two-year, $45 million offer, which Kuminga initially refused. If Kuminga becomes an unrestricted free agent next season, the Kings are considered to be the likely frontrunners in giving Kuminga the offer closest to what he thinks he deserves. Kuminga reportedly used the restricted free agency negotiations to build a relationship with the Kings' front office. The Kings reportedly kept two players off the table at any cost for a potential deal to get Jonathan Kuminga to Sacramento: Keegan Murray and Keon Ellis, before the Warriors pulled the plug on the negotiations. Will Kuminga accept the qualifying offer and stay in a messy locker room situation with the Warriors for another season? Or will he hold out until they offer him what he feels he deserves? Georgia's biggest playoff question in 2025 isn't Gunner Stockton
Everyone's focused on Georgia's new quarterback. But if the Bulldogs fall short of another College Football Playoff run, it won't be because of Gunner Stockton. It might be the guys catching the ball. Georgia enters the 2025 season with one of the strongest rosters in the country and the second-highest national championship odds behind Ohio State. ESPN Analytics gives the Bulldogs a 78.6 percent chance to reach the playoff and a 17.9 percent shot to win it all. But last season, Georgia led the entire Power Four in dropped passes. That stat crushed drives, stalled momentum and showed up in the worst moments. If that trend doesn't flip quickly, it won't matter who is under center. This team will need cleaner execution to survive the SEC. Georgia's toughest test is already circled Nov. 15 against Texas is the only game where Georgia is not favored, according to ESPN's Football Power Index. The Longhorns visit Athens late in the season in a potential top-five matchup, and it could decide which team claims one of the top two playoff seeds. If Georgia wins, it could still make the playoff even with an SEC title game loss. But a loss to Texas may mean Georgia has to win out to have any chance at a bid. Why Georgia still controls its path The Bulldogs have a huge opportunity early. A 4–0 start with wins over Tennessee and Alabama would put them in the driver's seat nationally. If both teams finish inside the CFP Top 25, those wins would be remembered by the committee through Selection Day. That means Georgia could still make the playoff even if it finishes without a conference championship. Where things could fall apart The schedule looks manageable on paper, but it has landmines. Georgia plays true road games at Tennessee, Auburn and Mississippi State. None of those are guaranteed wins. The neutral-site game against Florida is another key spot for Georgia to prove it can win away from Athens. And with three of the Bulldogs' home games coming against Marshall, FCS opponent Austin Peay and Charlotte, there won't be much room to slip up. Georgia doesn't need to be perfect. But if the receivers don't clean up last year's mistakes and the run game can't support Stockton, then perfect might be the only way in. This team still has the talent to win the SEC and return to the playoff, but the margin is thinner than it looks.
