"Smoke was reported soon after 8pm," said a Var department emergency services spokesman.
"The yacht's forward hull then burst into flames, and then the fire spread to the lower decks."

While the worst of the blaze was extinguished by midnight, firefighters reported "difficulties boarding the boat," said the source.
He said: "Surrounding yachts were quickly cleared, and we set up anti-pollution barriers.
"This is because it was likely that the boat was sinking into the sea."
As the drama unfolded in a prime berth opposite the Saint-Tropez tourist office, hundreds of tourists looked on, while filming videos and taking photos.

There was no immediate clue as to what caused the fire, but an investigation was immediately launched by the emergency services.

The 137ft Sea Lady II was originally called D'Angleterre II after being built in the Souter yard in Cowes, on the Isle of Wight.
Launched in 1986, and undergoing a full refit last year, she now sails under a Maltese flag.

She has a crew of eight, and can accommodate up to 10 passengers in her five cabins, all equipped with their own bathrooms, in five-star luxury.
Saint Tropez was first made famous by French actress Brigitte Bardot in the 1950s, and is now regularly filled with multimillionaire showbiz stars.
Arson has been blamed for a number of fires along France's Mediterranean coast this summer, during a heatwave.
'Malicious acts' caused power outages in Nice, after an electrical facility was damaged last month, according to Christian Estrosi, the Mayor of the city.

There was a similar attack in Cannes, at the end of the town's world famous film festival in May.

Wildfires reached nearby Marseille on Tuesday, leading to the airport serving France's second city to be shut down.
Train services in the area were also suspended because of fires near the tracks, said a spokesman for SNCF, France's train operator.

BBC launches investigation into Strictly stars' 'cocaine use'
The BBC has launched an investigation into alleged cocaine use by two of the stars of Strictly Come Dancing. Reports in The Sun allege their drug use was discussed on the BBC dancing show and said that the corporation had appointed law firm Pinsent Masons to lead the investigation. According to reports, the allegations were made in a legal submission by law firm Russells in March on behalf of former contestant Wynne Evans, who was dropped by the BBC after apologising for using "inappropriate language" during the launch of the Strictly tour. Others have also reported drug use on the show, according to The Sun. A BBC spokesperson said: "We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. "We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. The cast members involved in the investigation were not named by The Sun. It comes after the BBC launched a review into Strictly in 2024 that looked into allegations of bullying and harassment against former professional dancer Giovanni Pernice, made by his former dance partner Amanda Abbington. The corporation upheld some, but not all, of the complaints made - and introduced a series of new measures aimed at improving welfare. This included the introduction of a chaperone who is present "at all times" during training room rehearsals. EastEnders star James Borthwick was also suspended from the BBC after a video emerged of the actor using a slur on the set of the dance programme.

Ukrainian drones spark fire at Sochi oil depot
An overnight Ukrainian drone attack sparked a fire at an oil depot in Sochi, the Russian resort that hosted the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, around 400km from the Ukrainian border, authorities have said. Ukraine has regularly hit Russian oil and gas infrastructure in response to attacks on its own territory since Russia began its offensive in February 2022. "Sochi suffered a drone attack by the Kyiv regime last night," the governor of Russia's Krasnodar region, Veniamin Kondratiev, said on Telegram. He said drone wreckage hit an "oil tank, which caused a fire". Sochi's mayor, Andrei Proshunin, said there were no victims and that "the situation is totally under control", adding that firefighters were continuing to extinguish the blaze. Images, broadcast by Russian media but whose authenticity AFP could not verify, showed flames and a thick plumes of black smoke rising from the site. Air traffic was briefly suspended at Sochi airport but resumed shortly afterward, Russia's air transport regulator Rosaviatsia said. Ukraine authorities had not commented on the fire. Air strikes on Sochi are relatively rare compared to some other Russian cities. However, Ukrainian drone attacks killed two people there late last month, according to local authorities.
