Some Good News And Bad News About ‘Wednesday' Season 2's Release Date

Wednesday's first season was one of Netflix's biggest hits. The Jenna Ortega-led Addams Family spinoff tells the story of Wednesday in her formative years, off at Nevermore, a boarding school for magical outcasts.
Wednesday is the most outcast of them all, heeding no rules but her own. In the first season, she puzzles out a dark mystery while doing her best to stay below the fray. Even to her odd schoolmates, she's an oddity.
New characters and cast join Season 2, including Joanna Lumley as Hester Frump, Morticia's intimidating mother, and Steve Buscemi as Nevermore's new principal, Barry Dort, taking the reins from Gwendoline Christie's Principal Weems (RIP).
Of course, many of the original cast also return, including Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzman as Gomez Addams and Hunter Doohan as Tyler Gaplin / Hyde. Alas, it does not appear that Christina Ricci will be returning for Season 2, though there could be a trick up the sleeve that once belonged to Thing.
The good news is, we don't have long to wait for Season 2. The series returns to Netflix on August 6th. The bad news is that only four of the eight new episodes are landing that day. The second half of the season will drop on September 3rd, nearly an entire month later.
These split seasons became a lot more common after Stranger Things 4, which was split into two chunks about a month apart. The third season of The Witcher also split its episodes up into two parts. Perhaps the most egregious example of season-splitting was Cobra Kai's final season, which was divided into three sections spanning nearly an entire year. The trend has cooled since then, however, with fewer Netflix shows using this frustrating release model. The new season of Love, Death + Robots is being released all at once, for instance.
Ah well, as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait. And then wait some more. Here's the Wednesday Season 2 trailer:
The official synposes reads:
I would actually prefer a weekly release model over this season-splitting. While Netflix is known for binge-watching, there's still something special about enjoying a new episode every week. It keeps the conversation going without making fans wait an entire month for a new episode.

'Lilo & Stich' and 'Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning' dominated the box office charts again after fueling a record-breaking Memorial Day weekend. Theaters in the U.S. and Canada had several new films to offer this weekend as well, including Sony's family friendly 'Karate Kid: Legends' and the A24 horror movie 'Bring Her Back. ' According to studio estimates Sunday, it added up to a robust $145 million post-holiday weekend that's up over 115% from the same timeframe last year. Disney's live-action hybrid 'Lilo & Stitch' took first place again with $63 million from 4,410 locations in North America. It was enough to pass 'Sinners' to become the second-highest grossing movie of the year with $280.1 million in domestic ticket sales. Globally, it's running total is $610.8 million. 'Sinners,' meanwhile, is still going strong in its seventh weekend with another $5.2 million, bumping it to $267.1 million domestically and $350.1 million globally. The eighth 'Mission: Impossible' movie also repeated in second place, with $27.3 million from 3,861 locations. As with 'Lilo & Stitch,' that's down 57% from its opening. With $122.6 million in domestic tickets sold, it's performing in line with the two previous installments. But with a reported production budget of $400 million, profitability is a ways off. Internationally, it added $76.1 million (including $25.2 million from China where it just opened), bringing its global total to $353.8 million. Leading the newcomers was Sony's 'Karate Kid: Legends,' with an estimated $21 million from 3,809 locations. The movie brings Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio together to train a new kid, the kung fu prodigy Li Fong ( Ben Wang ). Chan starred in a 2010 reboot of the 1984 original, while Macchio has found a new generation of fans in the series 'Cobra Kai,' which just concluded a six-season run. Reviews might have been mixed, but opening weekend audiences gave the PG-13 rated film a strong A- CinemaScore and 4.5 stars on PostTrak. It also only cost a reported $45 million to produce and has several weeks until a new family-friendly film arrives. Fourth place went 'Final Destination: Bloodlines,' which earned $10.8 million in its third weekend. The movie is the highest-grossing in the franchise, not accounting for inflation, with $229.3 million globally. The weekend's other big newcomer, 'Bring Her Back' rounded out the top five with $7.1 million from 2,449 screens. Starring Sally Hawkins as a foster mother with some disturbing plans, the film is the sophomore feature of twin filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou, who made the 2023 horror breakout 'Talk to Me.' It earned a rare-for-horror B+ CinemaScore and is essentially the only new film in the genre until '28 Years Later' opens on June 20. A new Wes Anderson movie, 'The Phoenician Scheme,' also debuted in New York and Los Angeles this weekend, where it made $270,000. It expands nationwide next weekend. The summer box office forecast remains promising, though there's a long way to go to get to the $4 billion target (a pre-pandemic norm that only the 'Barbenheimer' summer has surpassed). The month of May is expected to close out with $973 million – up 75% from May 2024, according to data from Comscore.

I watched the first 6 minutes of ‘Wednesday' season 2 — and it's gloriously unhinged

"Wednesday" fans have been chomping at the bit for season 2 ever since the first premiered in November 2022, and last night's Netflix Tudum 2025 gave them plenty of new reasons to scream (for joy, of course). Instead of a new trailer, Netflix revealed an exclusive sneak peek at the first six minutes of "Wednesday" season 2. The tantalizing and hilarious snippet, which you can check out below, epitomizes the tone of Tim Burton's hit Netflix series. It starts with Wednesday gagged at a dinner table surrounded by dolls with tears of blood streaming down her face, and the context she offers (with Jenna Ortega's killer deadpan delivery) only sparks more concern: "I'm tied up in a serial killer's basement. Who said nightmares don't come true?" Turns out, this is all going according to plan. Wednesday reveals she spent her summer honing her newfound psychic powers to fulfill a childhood dream: tracking down the Kansas City Scalper. Before that, though, she'll have to overcome "one final harrowing obstacle" — TSA. We get to see the full version of the airport scene from April's "Wednesday" season 2 teaser; it's one of several comedic moments throughout the sneak peek, including a flashback of her traumatizing classmates with her serial killer obsession. When she finally comes face to face with the Kansas City Scalper, he's revealed to be Haley Joel Osment in a virtually unrecognizable cameo. Though he gets the jump on her when a sudden psychic vision leaves her catatonic, it's not long before the tables turn and he's the one begging for mercy in his creepy, doll-filled basement. "Let me show you some of my own handiwork," she tells him as the clip ends. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. The morbid opening won't surprise fans, especially considering that season 1 opened with Wednesday releasing piranhas into a pool to terrorize her brother's bullies. Show creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar say season 2 will double down on the horror, which I'm here for. "There's some moments which are definitely horror movie-worthy," Millar said in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. "We have that in season 1, but I think this season there are moments that are very intense, I'll say." In an interview with Vanity Fair last year, Ortega said, 'I think the feel that we're going for is a little bit more horror-inspired." Osment's role in season 2 had been kept under wraps until now, but he's not the only cameo in "Wednesday" sophomore outing. At Netflix Tudum, the streamer confirmed popstar Lady Gaga will play Rosaline Rotwood, "a legendary Nevermore teacher who crosses paths with Wednesday." The official synopsis for "Wednesday" season 2 reads: 'Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), returns to prowl the Gothic halls of Nevermore Academy, where fresh foes and woes await. This season, Wednesday must navigate family, friends and old adversaries, propelling her into another year of delightfully dark and kooky mayhem. Armed with her signature razor-sharp wit and deadpan charm, Wednesday is also plunged into a new bone-chilling supernatural mystery.' Based on what we've seen so far, I'm hyped for what comes next. The first volume of "Wednesday" season 2 lands on Netflix on August 6, so we don't have long to wait before the Addams family and all the chaos that comes with them grace our screens once more.
