Country View upbeat on FY25, backed by Iskandar's growth
The group said it is well-positioned to navigate the evolving market landscape and deliver value to stakeholders.
'For the coming financial year 2025 (FY25), the property market in Johor Bahru remains poised for continued growth, driven by robust infrastructure developments, increasing foreign and domestic investments, together with government support to spur economic growth,' it said.
With core development in the Iskandar Malaysia region, the group said it is strategically positioned to capitalise on these opportunities while maintaining their commitment to sustainable and responsible development.
'Key infrastructure projects such as the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double-Track Rail Project (Gemas-JB EDTP) and the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link that is currently ongoing, when completed, are expected to further enhance cross-border connectivity and economic activity.
'Together with ongoing initiatives like the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and the Forest City Special Financial Zone (SFZ), these growth drivers are set to boost demand for residential, commercial, and industrial properties in Iskandar Malaysia,' said the company.
Additionally, it said increased foreign interest, particularly from Singaporean investors, continues to support the upward trajectory of the real estate sector, especially in Iskandar Malaysia.
'With relatively lower property prices compared to Singapore, the Iskandar Malaysia region remains an attractive destination for both investment and homeownership,' it added.
While the outlook remains positive, the group said it remains mindful of external challenges such as global economic uncertainties that could lead to fluctuating prices of commodities and materials, volatility of currencies, shifts in inflation, fluctuating interest rates, and investor sentiment.
'Our group will remain vigilant in monitoring market dynamics, adopting a prudent financial strategy, and continuously refining our product offerings. This includes enhancing quality amenities, incorporating sustainable designs and features that meet customer expectations, optimising the timing of our launches, and staying adaptable to changing market conditions,' it said.
The group plans to launch the remaining affordable housing units under the Rumah Mampu Milik Johor and the Perumahan Komuniti Johor A schemes in Taman Nusa Sentral in FY25.

Grimm Urges Faster ASEAN Energy Integration To Harness Laos' Hydro And Malaysia's Solar Capacities By Harizah Hanim Mohamed KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) – The groundwork for ASEAN energy integration has long been laid, but sharper focus and faster action are needed to propel renewable energy to the next level by harnessing each member's strengths, said B. Grimm Power Public Company Ltd. B. Grimm, a multinational conglomerate rooted in Thailand for 147 years, has a strong footing in ASEAN, with operations in the Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. B. Grimm chairman and chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Harald Link, pointed out that Laos has vast hydropower resources, while Malaysia has abundant solar power potential, both of which should be tapped further by establishing a stronger interconnected grid from diverse sources. 'When you look at the ASEAN grid, each country has different strengths. Laos, for example, is the only country in the region with abundant hydropower potential. So, it makes sense for Laos to capitalise on that by exporting electricity to Thailand, Malaysia and even Singapore, and earn revenue in the process. But for that to happen, the grid needs to be in place, and the interconnections must be upgraded,' he told Bernama recently. The interview was held after Link was awarded the Sri Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang (SSAP), which carries the title 'Datuk Seri', in conjunction with the 66th birthday of the Sultan of Pahang at Balai Mahkota, Istana Abdulaziz, on July 28, 2025. The Thailand-Peninsular Malaysia interconnection was established and has been in service since June 2002, with a 300 MW capacity and was constructed to connect Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia via a grid-to-grid 300 kV HVDC overhead transmission line. The existing interconnection spans around 110 km from a substation in Khlong Ngae, Thailand, to Gurun East in Malaysia, which Link described as being 'a very old line.' Commenting on Malaysia's role in pushing for an interconnection grid upgrade, Link highlighted that Malaysia's Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA) is pushing hard for the interconnection grid upgrade. 'B. Grimm has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with TNB, which will purchase hydropower from Laos through us to Malaysia, but that MOU is waiting for the ASEAN grid or Thailand-Malaysia grid to be upgraded,' Link said. In 2023, TNB signed deals with three major energy players in Thailand to develop regional infrastructure for RE. TNB, through its subsidiary, TNB Power Generation Sdn Bhd, partnered with to look into opportunities for collaboration for the development of renewable power projects in Southeast Asia. Across ASEAN, B. Grimm's footprint is visible; it operates solar farms in the Philippines and Vietnam. B. Grimm built the largest solar farm in Southeast Asia in 2018, alongside a distribution network. In Cambodia, partnered with Chinese state-owned contractors and constructed a second solar farm. In Laos, operates three hydropower plants, contributing to the country's RE mix. On the ASEAN energy mix, Link has proposed to build many hydro plants in Laos and set up a grid to transmit that power, even to Malaysia. 'It makes more sense to buy the power rather than generate it locally if you don't have the resources yourself. At the same time, I would also strongly develop solar farms, because solar energy is something Malaysia has and it's free,' he added. All in all, Link reckons that the ASEAN Economic Community Plan should bring real benefits to the member countries, with the free movement of people and money, as well as no territorial conflict. 'Like in the European Union (EU), citizens didn't care if they were in Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, or France; they could move freely, find jobs, and live wherever they wanted. 'Lesser developed countries received central funding. Portugal, for example, used to be very poor, but received a lot of money from Brussels. You might get the occasional disagreement, but nothing destructive. 'The European Union has been a great peacemaker. ASEAN should aim for the same. So yes, I truly believe these unions, whether ASEAN or the EU, bring real benefits for every single person,' he concluded. -- BERNAMA

Backbencher calls for lifting of ban on e-hailing rides to S'pore

(Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : A backbencher has called on the government to hold talks with Singapore on lifting the ban on e-hailing rides to the island state from Johor Bahru. Jimmy Puah (PH-Tebrau) said the decision to ban such rides was unfortunate and hurt frequent commuters, stating that as Johoreans, many like him preferred to fly out from Changi airport when travelling overseas. He said a typical ride from Johor Bahru to Changi would take about an hour, provided the Causeway was clear. Puah said given the gravity of the situation, the transport and foreign ministers must urgently meet their Singapore counterparts to negotiate and at least allow locals or permanent residents to take e-hailing rides into the republic. Jimmy Puah. He said recent incidents where Malaysians were stopped by Singapore authorities for dropping off passengers at Changi Airport had caused confusion and hardship. Some drivers also had their vehicles seized and were now being probed by the authorities there. 'Johor and Singapore have long enjoyed close, strategic ties, yet issues like this hinder the progress that the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone is meant to bring. 'If its goal is to bring us closer, we must remove such barriers,' he told the Dewan Rakyat when debating the 13th Malaysia Plan. He also proposed that certain conditions be set to allow these e-hailing rides to enter Singapore. Among them were restricting drop-offs to airports and ferry terminals and limiting them to Malaysians or foreign residents in Malaysia. On Aug 3, Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) said there were no plans to fully allow cross-border e-hailing. This was despite the idea being raised during an Aug 1 meeting between Singapore's acting transport minister Jeffrey Siow and Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi. LTA said it wanted to protect the livelihoods of existing drivers and curb unauthorised services. For now, cross-border taxi trips remain under the Cross-Border Taxi Scheme, which limits services to 200 licensed cabs from each side, operating from designated pick-up points in each country. Puah went on to say that smoother cross-border travel was vital for both people and trade. He also noted that the JB-Singapore RTS is due to open at the end of 2026, carrying tens of thousands of passengers per hour and easing Causeway congestion. He suggested building two new road links from the RTS station, one towards Jalan Skudai to move passengers north and west, and another towards Jalan Tebrau to channel traffic eastwards out of Johor Bahru. He said these routes would help prevent thousands of e-hailing cars and other vehicles from clogging city streets once the RTS begins operations.

Ministries join up to crack down on sky-high concert ticket resales as scalpers run wild
JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 10 — The Communications Ministry will hold discussions with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) to address the growing issue of concert ticket scalping at inflated prices. Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said KPDN is currently reviewing the matter, including the possibility of introducing a Bill to tackle the matter. 'The Communications Ministry has also engaged with event organisers and ticketing companies to find the most suitable solution to this issue,' she said at a press conference for the Johor leg of the Madani MSME Digital Grant Festival 2025 in Permas Jaya today. Teo said the problem is most common at high-profile international concerts, such as G-Dragon's, where soaring demand allows scalpers to resell tickets at heavily marked-up prices. Last Friday, Teo chaired a meeting with representatives from KPDN and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to address the growing concern of ticket scalping, which is hurting the country's entertainment industry. She said the session gathered input and proposals from agencies directly involved in monitoring and enforcing concert ticket sales, while also examining examples from countries with anti-scalping laws. — Bernama
