Orlando Pirates lift-off alert: Monnapule Saleng soars back into Orbit!

IOL News4 days ago
After enduring a frustrating season on the sidelines, Monnapule Saleng, the talented Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana attacker, will make a significant comeback at Orbit College FC.
It will be an emotional reunion because Saleng's loan move will be to the club where he first started his footballing journey.
Orbit College, fresh from their historic promotion to South Africa's top-flight, showcased their ability and resilience by triumphing over Cape Town City and Casric Stars in the PSL promotion playoffs. This achievement not only marked a milestone for the club but also for the North West province, which has been yearning for Premier League football after a seven-year absence.
Saleng has been absent from competitive action for most of last season. He expressed his gratitude and excitement to return to action. 'I must give thanks to the Man Above. I am happy to be back home. Orbit College is a great team that plays exciting football, and I cannot wait to be a part of that,' the 27-year-old declared in an interview with SABC Sport.
The return to Orbit College comes with a sense of nostalgia and ambition for Saleng, who is determined to leverage his experience for the benefit of the team. He is ready to play a role under the guidance of coach Pogiso Makhoye.
Reflecting on his decision to return, he said, 'It wasn't an easy decision to return home, especially after a long season without playing. During this difficult time, I kept on pushing and waited for my opportunity; unfortunately, that did not arrive until Orbit College came calling.'
He noted that many of his new teammates were encouraging him during his tough times at Pirates, solidifying the homecoming feel he had encountered.
Selecting Orbit College for his career revival is more than just a strategic move; it is a heartfelt return to his roots. He spent four crucial seasons at the club previously and now aims to utilise his accumulated experience to have a positive impact on the squad.
'I feel very emotional, and I expect to use my experience to add value. But it is not going to be easy to play in the Premiership,' he admitted, acknowledging the considerable challenges that lie ahead.
Under Makhoye's stewardship, Orbit College aims to establish itself as a formidable contender in the top tier. The ambitious coach noted, 'We have proved a lot of people wrong after they called us chokers in recent seasons. We do not have a big budget, but we aim to compete talent-wise with well-established sides.'
As plans advance to secure alternative venues such as the Royal Bafokeng and Mmabatho Stadiums, alongside the refurbishment of the Olympia Stadium, Orbit College is set to create an engaging home atmosphere for fans eager to witness their journey in the Premiership.
The excitement surrounding the club is palpable as they embark on what promises to be an exhilarating debut season.

What are Orlando Pirates not saying about Relebohile Mofokeng?

Orlando Pirates have denied reports of a R120 million offer from PSV for striker Relebohile Mofokeng, but their statement did not address his future at the club, leaving uncertainty about his potential departure. Picture: Itumeleng English/Independent Media Image: Itumeleng English/Independent Media As the rumours continue to swirl about the future of star Orlando Pirates striker Relebohile Mofokeng, it's worth taking a closer look at the statement from the club on the player. Pirates were quick to rubbish reports on July 16 that PSV had made an offer of R120m for the 20-year-old. According to Mofokeng's market value is around R33 million. In a 178-word statement on its website, Pirates went on the offensive to say no such offer had been received by the club. Video Player is loading. What was revealing about the statement though, is that nowhere did it say something to dispel rumours that Mofokeng may in fact be leaving the club. Instead, it targeted the publication for publishing the story and the amount in question. Surely if the club wanted to stamp out rumours about Mofokeng, it would add that Mofokeng is committed to his future at the club? Pirates' Silence on Player Rumours: Monnapule Saleng's Absence and Mofokeng's Future Uncertain It's not the first time Pirates have done little to prevent rumours starting about their players. For over six months, there was no word on Monnapule Saleng. The star player was inexplicably absent from the Pirates team since December 7. There had even been rumours that Saleng might join rivals Kaizer Chiefs at one point, and yet Pirates did not address such reports. Only when he was loaned out to Orbit College earlier this month did the public get any clarification on his future. As for Mofokeng, whether he continues to ply his trade for Pirates remains to be seen; all we know is how much money hasn't been offered for the young talent. @Michael_Sherman IOL Sport

Springboks: Big omissions for start of Rugby Championship

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus selected a 37-man squad for the first two Tests in the Rugby Championship against Australia, featuring 24 Rugby World Cup-winners and five players who made their Test debuts during their successful Incoming Series. The Bok coach also invited three Young Guns, who were members of the triumphant Junior Springbok World Rugby U20 Championship squad – Bathobele Hlekani, Cheswill Jooste, and Haashim Pead – to train with the group during their two-week conditioning camp in Johannesburg starting on Sunday 27 July, to orientate them into the Springbok culture. The five players who earned their first Springbok Test caps in July are Ethan Hooker (utility back), Asenathi Ntlabakanye, Boan Venter (both props), Marnus van der Merwe (hooker), and Cobus Wiese (utility forward). Meanwhile, Bath prop Thomas du Toit has been granted a compulsory two-week rest as agreed with the Premiership, although he is eligible to be called up at any stage should the need arise, while No 8 Jasper Wiese is currently serving a four-week suspension, ruling him out of this squad. A handful of players, in turn, have been released to their respective franchises to build up game time in the Currie Cup competition, although a few of them have been placed on standby for the Wallaby Tests. The standby players are Lukhanyo Am (centre), who missed the July Tests due to a knee niggle, Faf de Klerk (scrumhalf), Makazole Mapimpi (wing), Salmaan Moerat (lock), Evan Roos (No 8), Neethling Fouche (prop), and Vincent Tshituka (flanker). In total, Erasmus' squad includes 20 forwards and 17 backline players. The Springboks will face the Wallabies in Johannesburg on Saturday 16 August, and again a week later in Cape Town on 23 August.
