'Telangana ready for IIM, we are exploring possibilities': Indore institute director
The ceremony also featured a showcase of innovative technical projects developed by the officers, underlining the institution's focus on applied research and real-world problem-solving.
Speaking on the sidelines, when asked whether Telangana is ready for an Indian Institute of Management, Prof Rai told TNIE, 'Telangana is definitely capable of having an IIM. It already hosts excellent institutions, and we at IIM Indore are exploring possibilities to initiate something here.'
He also commented on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's vision of transforming Hyderabad into an AI city. 'Hyderabad has the right ecosystem, and, most importantly, the political will to become an AI city. With strong leadership and bureaucratic alignment, the city is ready though traffic management remains an area for improvement.'

By year-end, 'Made-in-India' semiconductor chips will hit the market: PM Narendra Modi
In his speech marking India's 79th Independence Day, at the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Made-in-India semiconductor chips will be available in the market by the end of 2025, a significant step towards India's goal of technological the importance of innovation and technology, the PM said the 21st century is 'technology-driven' and that India must take the lead in key areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and clean energy."Whichever country embraced technology, they reached great heights," he said. "Fifty to sixty years ago, we began talking about semiconductor factories. But files were stuck, decisions suspended….We lost fifty to sixty years.'However, he added that the country is now moving forward in 'mission mode', with six semiconductor units planned and four already approved.'By the end of this year, 'Made in India' semiconductor chips — made by the people in India — will hit the market,' he announcement is part of the broader Semiconductor Mission, which aims to reduce reliance on imports and establish India as a key hub in global chip linked this effort to the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, stressing that self-sufficiency in semiconductors will strengthen industries such as defence and digital this week, ET reported that the Union Cabinet approved four semiconductor projects worth Rs 4,594 crore. With this, the number of approved chip manufacturing facilities in the country has reached ten, bringing the total projected investments to around Rs 1.6 lakh crore across six states.

India working towards its own space station, reforms to continue: PM Modi
India is working towards becoming self-reliant in the space sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday, adding that the country will have its own space station in the near future. In his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, PM Modi said the nation is proud of its space sector. 'IAF Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is back from the International Space Station (ISS). Soon he will return to India. We are working on becoming self-reliant in the space sector, preparing for the launch of Gaganyaan, which is India's flagship human spaceflight programme. We will make our own space station,' the Prime Minister emphasised. As India's first astronaut to have visited the International Space Station, Shukla has inspired a billion dreams through his dedication, courage, and pioneering spirit. He became the second Indian astronaut to travel to space after Rakesh Sharma's 1984 odyssey. According to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the experience gained by Shukla onboard the International Space Station will be extremely valuable for India's Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission. The Prime Minister also said that reforms brought in in recent times have enabled over 300 startups which are working in the space sector. "Thousands of youth are working on India's space dream. This is the power of our youth. This is the confidence we have in our youth," PM Modi said. Last month, ISRO took a step closer to the Gaganyaan Mission with the successful development of a key engine. The two hot tests for the Gaganyaan Service Module Propulsion System (SMPS) have been completed. The Gaganyaan programme aims to demonstrate India's capability to launch a crewed spacecraft into low Earth orbit. ISRO aims to launch at least two key projects under the Gaganyaan mission this year -- a second test vehicle and an uncrewed mission. The uncrewed orbital test mission will pave the way for India's human spaceflight programme. This will validate systems for crew safety and recovery. Meanwhile, Indian space startups have received $430 million in investment till March this year, said Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, in Parliament, citing the success of opening up the space industry to the private sector. To promote the participation of private entities in the space sector, the government had, in June 2020, established the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) as an autonomous agency under the Department of Space (DoS) in India. IN-SPACe has, so far, facilitated the transfer of 93 technologies developed by ISRO.

Made-in-India semiconductor chips will be available in markets by year-end: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced that Made-in-India semiconductor chips will be available in the market by the end of this year, pushing the need for the country's semiconductor manufacturing. He said that six semiconductor units are in the pipeline and four new ones have been already approved. (PTI file photo) Speaking from the ramparts of Red Fort in his 12th Independence Day speech, the PM recalled how plans for a semiconductor factory began 50-60 years ago but the files were left to 'atak, latak and bhatak,' translating to English as stuck, dangling and wandering in bureaucratic limbo. Now, he said, the country is in 'mission mode,' with six semiconductor units in the pipeline and four new ones already approved, and promised that 'Made-in-India chips' will be available in the market by year-end. Also Read: Independence Day 2025 LIVE updates: PM Modi announces Mission Sudarshan Chakra, weapon system to thwart attacks He added that India could have been competing with other countries, like Taiwan, US, China and South Korea, who are leading in production, design and export of semiconductors. For context, Taiwan dominates nearly all of the world's most advanced chip production, making about 90% of these semiconductors, mostly through Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the largest chipmaker and a key supplier to Apple and Nvidia. 'This is a technology-driven century. Whichever country embraced technology, they reached great heights… You'll be surprised to know that semiconductors, which have now become the backbone of many nations, the files of those plans in India were stuck, left and forgotten. The thinking behind semiconductors was killed. We lost 50-60 years. Many countries in the meanwhile continued to gain strength in semiconductors. But today, we are rid of that burden,' said PM Modi. Under the IT ministry's India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), ten semiconductor units have been announced so far, most focused on assembly and packaging, with only two dedicated to fabrication. As HT reported earlier, the first 'Made-in-India' chip expected this year will be a packaged chip, not one produced in a foundry (fabrication unit). Announcing four new units on Tuesday, IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said there is intense competition brewing between three semiconductor facilities to roll out the first such chip before 2025. According to a senior ministry official, the contenders are based out of Gujarat, namely Tata-Micron OSAT, CG Power-Renesas OSAT, and Kaynes Technology OSAT, all located in Sanand. Of the 10 semiconductor units approved till now, four are in Gujarat, two in Odisha, one each in Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Punjab. The chips coming out of these units will be used in sectors like consumer electronics, automotive, defence, telecommunications, mobile phones, renewable energy, among others.
