The comparison site recently shared with Sun Motors their latest car insurance price index, revealing that the average cost of car insurance is £450.
Typically, smaller, less powerful cars with good safety credentials are the cheapest to insure, such as the ever-popular Peugeot 206 and the compact Smart ForTwo.
Unsurprisingly, both feature on Go.Compare's list.
However, there are a few unexpected entries, including the iconic Mazda MX-5 - which takes the top spot, costing an average of £250 to insure.
Long dubbed 'the poster child for convertible cars', the MX-5 has often been recognised as a mechanically reliable choice that's also great fun to drive.
The long-forgotten Saab 9-3, praised as a comfortable and practical saloon that also boasts good looks and an excellent safety record, also makes the list.
Saab's former Swedish rivals Volvo are also on the list with the S40, costing just £290 to insure on average.
Go.Compare's top 10 cheapest cars to insure
1 Mazda MX-5 - £250
2 Peugeot 206 - £255
3 Citroen Xsara - £256
4 Smart Fortwo - £260
5 Toyota IQ - £265
6 Fiat Panda - £279
7 Peugeot RCZ - £279
8 Vauxhall Agila - £290
9 Saab 9-3 - £290
10 Volvo S40 - £290
Speaking to Sun Motors, Tom Banks, a car insurance expert at Go.Compare, explained that the model of the car is just one of many factors insurers consider.
He said: 'When an insurer offers you a quote for your car insurance, they take into account a whole range of factors – your age, the area you live in, and where your car is parked can all affect the price, as well as the type of car you drive.
'Generally speaking, more powerful, sporty cars with larger engines are more expensive to insure, while cars with smaller engines are typically more affordable to insure and run.
'While it's unlikely to be cost-effective to change your car solely to lower your insurance premium, if you're in the market for a new car anyway, it's definitely worth researching how much different models cost to insure.
'And if you're not planning to buy a new car but your premiums have increased, there are certain steps you can take to try to reduce the cost of insuring your vehicle.'

I've read thousands of CVs – eight phrases you MUST avoid and major mistake all jobseekers make

We reveal the perfect CV format to follow and FREE tools you can use to help you write one YOU'RE HIRED I've read thousands of CVs – eight phrases you MUST avoid and major mistake all jobseekers make Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LANDING your dream job starts with an attention-grabbing CV - but in a competitive recruitment market many are riddled with clichés. The Sun spoke to HR expert and recruitment firm boss, James Flemming, who has spent 25 years reviewing thousands of CVs - and he revealed the major mistake most jobseekers make when it comes to writing resumes. 3 A good CV can help you bag an interview for your dream job and there are free tools to help you Credit: Getty 3 James Flemming, founder and chief executive of recruitment specialists Brave, has spent 25 years reviewing thousands of CVs James says: "The key to the perfect CV is to ditch the generic buzzwords and focus on demonstrating your impact with concrete examples." Recruiters spend mere seconds scanning each CV, so you need to make every word count. Your CV isn't just a list of previous jobs - it's your personal advertisement. It highlights your skills, experience, and successes, showing why you're the best person for the job. As your first impression, it needs to stand out and make an impact. He knows exactly what makes a CV stand out - and what causes it to be rejected. The keywords and terms to avoid Generic terms like "hard-working," "committed," and "diligent" have become so overused that they've lost their impact, said James. Instead of telling employers you're hardworking, show them with examples. "You could say, 'I managed a caseload of 50 clients while maintaining a 95% satisfaction rate'". The phrase "team player" is equally meaningless unless backed by evidence. Living wage working family react to the Spring Statement James said a better approach would be to write, "Collaborated with cross-functional teams to launch a new product two weeks ahead of schedule". Again, while terms like "go-getter" or "self-starter" might grab attention in sales roles, they only work if supported by proof. Instead, you could say, "I implemented a new client onboarding process, reducing time-to-productivity by 30%," which James said is far more compelling. Passive phrases like "responsible for" should be avoided too, as they fail to convey a sense of action, James explained. Instead, he suggests starting with powerful action verbs such as led, delivered, designed, or streamlined to highlight your achievements. Similarly, stating you're "detail-oriented" isn't enough - prove it with specifics like: "I reviewed 100 invoices per week with 100% accuracy." YOU'RE HIRED: The perfect format for a CV HERE is a template for the "ideal [First name] [Last name] [Phone number] | [Email address] | [Location] Professional Summary [Two to three sentences that highlight years of experience, relevant skills, education or certifications and achievements as a professional]. Experience [Job Title] | [Employment dates] [Company Name] | [Location] (Strong verb) + what you did (more detail) + reason, outcome or quantified results. [Job duty] [Job duty] [Job duty] [Job duty] [Job Title] | [Employment dates] [Company Name] | [Location] (Strong verb) + what you did (more detail) + reason, outcome or quantified results. [Job duty] [Job duty] Skills [Skill] | [Skill] | [Skill] | [Skill] | [Skill] | [Skill] Education[Degree and major] | [Name of school or university] [Location] What should your CV include? Your CV, that crucial first impression, needs to be a lean, mean, job-landing machine, fitting snugly onto just one side of A4, says James. Pack it with the essentials - your name and contact details so they can actually reach you, a snappy summary of your skills (if you like), your work history showcasing what you achieved, not just what you did, and your educational background. Quantify your successes wherever possible - numbers speak louder than words James Flemming Tailor it ruthlessly to each job you're applying for, ditching anything that isn't directly relevant. Quantify your successes wherever possible - numbers speak louder than words. Forget those outdated phrases and the assumption that everyone needs to know you can use Microsoft Word. Proofread meticulously because typos scream "unprofessional," and aim for a clean, clear layout that's easy on the recruiter's eye. Remember, it's a highlight reel, not a career autobiography. Don't forget the cover letter Once your CV is ready, don't stop there – your cover letter is just as important. Your CV shows the highlights, but the cover letter is your chance to explain the story behind them and why they matter for this job. James says: "Never underestimate the value of a well-crafted cover letter. "This is your chance to show motivation, cultural fit and how your values align with the company's. "Keep it succinct, tailor it to the role and avoid repeating your CV. "Instead, offer context - why this job, why this company and how you'll bring value." James recommends having a good nosey around the company website, getting a feel for their vibe, and then sprinkling that knowledge into your letter. It shows you're genuinely keen and not just firing off applications willy-nilly. 3 Getting straight to the point with your CV can make all the difference, says James Credit: Getty Now, for the opening. If you can find a name – a hiring manager, someone in the team – use it. This shows you've put in the effort. Then, be clear about the job you're after. After that, get straight to the point: what is it about this gig that makes you tick? In the main body, don't just say you've got skills - prove it. Give real-life examples of when you've smashed it in the past. It's also vital to chat a bit about why you're a good fit for their culture. Again, do your research and work out what makes them tick, and show how your own values line up. Finally, carefully proofread your cover letter to catch any grammar mistakes. A polished cover letter shows you're professional and pay attention to detail, so ask a friend or family member to check it over too.

Now Pornhub ban spreads to EUROPE in row over under-18 access – and it includes two other major X-rated sites

The website is blocked in France as the company that owns it objects to a new age verification rule BLEU MOVIES Now Pornhub ban spreads to EUROPE in row over under-18 access – and it includes two other major X-rated sites PORNHUB has pulled out of France as a stringent clampdown on adult sites makes its way to Europe. A furious backlash over the country's new age verification rules has prompted the site to block access. Good!" Credit: Getty It comes over objections to a new law requiring porn sites to verify the age of users. Aylo, the adult entertainment company that owns Pornhub, has announced it will block access to the site in France as a result. The company claims the French law poses a privacy risk to users. The law could see users required to enter credit card details or other forms of official ID to verify their age. Advertisement Aylo also runs other popular porn sites such as Youporn and RedTube - which will also now be unavailable in France. The company argues that device-based age verification is a better solution than requiring porn sites to police the age of users. Aylo's VP for Brand and Community Alex Kekesi said: "All it requires is that the government enforce regulations on three companies – Apple, Google and Microsoft – the three operating system manufacturers requiring age verification at the device level prior to accessing adult content. "The French government refuses to take this simple step and instead are focused on futile and entirely symbolic regulatory actions which are unenforceable, do not protect children and expose your private data." Advertisement Pornhub is the world's most visited porn site, with France being one of its biggest markets. The website claims that France was its second biggest audience in 2024 after the United States. Kekesi added: "We've made the difficult decision to suspend access to our sites in France and instead use our platforms to speak directly to the French people. "French citizens deserve a government and a regulator who are serious about preventing children from accessing adult content. She added: "Pornhub, Youporn, and RedTube refuse to comply with our legal framework and decide to leave. Good!" Advertisement It comes after Aylo made similar moves to block access to its porn sites in several US states over age verification laws. So far, 19 US states have passed laws requiring porn sites to verify users's age. 6 The European Commission has also launched an investigation into several adult websites Credit: AFP The bans cover around one third of the US population. Advertisement Methods of checking under these laws can include providing a government-issued ID or even scanning a user's face. It has seen many porn sites opt to block access to their pages rather than implement such verification systems. States that have implemented these laws include Texas, Florida, Arizona and Virginia. The European Commission has also launched an investigation into several adult websites - including Pornhub - over accusations they had not complied with regulations aimed at stopping minors accessing porn. Advertisement The UK also has a law requiring platforms to have "robust" age checks in place by July. It is currently unclear whether the same porn platforms will also block access to their sites in Britain when this comes into force.

Exact code to spot when £100 Nationwide payment lands in millions of accounts within weeks – will you be better off?

If you are not a Nationwide customers don't worry as we share other banks giving away free cash CASH HELP Exact code to spot when £100 Nationwide payment lands in millions of accounts within weeks – will you be better off? NATIONWIDE customers have been told the exact code to look out for to confirm a £100 payment has landed in their accounts. The high street lender is giving away the cash as part of its Fairer Share programme. 1 Nationwide customers have been told the exact code to look out for when the £100 cash lands in their accounts Credit: Getty The payment goes to members who bank with Nationwide regularly. Those who have a savings account or mortgage product could also qualify. Customers can expect the cash to land in their accounts between June 18 and July 4. And there is a code that customers should look out for on their bank statements to ensure they have received the cash - it is Nationwide Fairer Share Payment. But you must have opened a main current account with Nationwide by March 31 to get your hands on the money. You would have needed to have £100 in savings or owe £100 on your mortgage by that date. You also will need to have used your account within the first three months of this year. This is the third year that Nationwide has given away free cash to customers. Last year, it paid out a total of £385million to 3.85million customers and the year before £340million to 3.4million people. Back in December, the building society's boss confirmed it would make the payment for a third time. Major bank paying out £100 to customers It's worth noting, the £100 Fairer Share payment is separate to the £50 issued to around 12million Nationwide customers between April 9 and May 14. Recently the bank has also launched a new £200 switching offer to treat customers who sign up for its new bond. Nationwide's member inclusive bond is available to sign up to for all 16 million existing members and can be opened in branch, online or via the Banking App. This is a fixed-rate savings bond available only to Nationwide members. BANKING FREEBIES Nationwide is not the only bank giving customers free cash. TSB is giving new customers who switch to the high street bank a £100 switching incentive. You get the £100 upfront but if you spend on your debit card for 20 times in the first six months you get a £15 a month cashback. Santander has launched a new switching incentive to lure in customers. As part of the deal, customers will receive £180 within 90 days of making the switch. Cusomers need to pay £1,500 into the account within 60 days. This does not have to be deposited all at once. Customers must also set up two active household direct debits on the new account. This can include your council tax, mobile phone, home phone, broadband, paid-for TV packages, water, gas and electricity bills. Co-op Bank is also paying £175 to new customers.
