So if you can afford to, pay it all in one go. Consider the cover type: While you might think that opting for less cover is cheaper, this isn't always the case. Time when you buy: Our data shows that you can make some serious savings if you shop in advance of your renewal date. In fact, it could cost you 30% more if you leave it to the day your policy is due for renewal.

Man Arrested After Trying to Tow a Car Backwards on a Highway
Towing a car is a fairly simple procedure. All you need is a suitable trailer and a vehicle with enough power to pull the weight. The driver of this Saab 9-3 Aero convertible only had one of those things. And it's landed him in jail. Police were called to Interstate 610 in Houston, Texas, on Monday for an improperly towed vehicle swinging in and out of lanes, causing a hazardous situation. Video taken from an onlooker shows the Saab droptop being pulled via chain by a white Ford Expedition, nearly striking other motorists. This situation is dangerous for a few reasons. Flat-towing—when a vehicle pulls another vehicle without a trailer—is a treacherous endeavor on its own. Done correctly, the vehicle being towed is supposed to face forward , not backward, so the front wheels don't have an opportunity to turn and cause a crash. That's nearly what happened here. No injuries were reported, thankfully. When officers finally caught up to the two cars, they ran the plates on the Saab and discovered its occupant, identified as 32-year-old Dante Brown, had a warrant out for his arrest in DeKalb County, Georgia. The driver of the white SUV, identified as Brown's girlfriend, was not taken into custody. Take this video as a lesson: If you absolutely need to tow a car, at least take the proper precautions. Otherwise, you might go viral and end up on national television (and in jail). Terrifying video shows out-of-control Saab 'reversing' wrong way down busy Texas freeway with driver inside
Frightening video captured an out-of-control Saab 9-3 being recklessly towed down a busy Texas freeway by an SUV. The distressing incident took place Monday afternoon on Houston's Highway 290 after the sedan broke down. The male driver of the car then called his girlfriend to help him out because they did not have the money to call a tow truck, police told KTRK. Instead, the couple decided to create their own towing system, chaining the sedan to the SUV all while the man remained in the driver's seat of the convertible. Once the makeshift tow got underway, the sedan's axle reportedly snapped off, causing it to swerve back and forth into lanes packed with other vehicles. Several nearby cars were seen slowing down and keeping a safe distance from the two cars, including David Chairez who was merging onto the freeway as it happened. 'It looked like a scene from Fast & Furious. That was very reckless, and that was very dangerous,' Chairez told the outlet. What made the entire ordeal even more bizarre was the fact that the woman driving the SUV appeared to be laughing, according to Chairez. Miraculously, nobody was hurt, but the broken down car did sustain damage from being thrown around the road. Donte Brown, the 32-year-old driver of the Saab, was arrested for an unrelated incident after officers discovered there was an active warrant for his arrest out of Georgia, police told the outlet. No citations were given in relation to this case. Video of the horrific moment began with the person recording screaming: 'Bro, don't do that!' as the car swerved left and right. Multiple vehicles behind and next to the car then slowed down and moved out of the way as the two cars cut across lanes. The white SUV then pulled the sedan close to a concrete median as it continued to move erratically before slamming into it. At one point, the sedan wheels started to screech all while the passenger remained inside as the clip ended. 'To see something like this, this is not normal,' Chariez said. Officers told the outlet the incident could result in a violation for failing to stay in a single lane of traffic, along with other potential citations. 'Call a wrecker or call someone for help. Make a complete stop. Don't go backwards on the freeway,' Chariez suggested.

If You Blow a Tire, Call a Tow Truck and Not Whatever This Is
The latest car news, reviews, and features. Treading lightly around vehicles hauling alarming loads is the kind of self-preservation instinct you need to have as a driver. In my experience, that's typically a pickup ravaged by rust, carrying loose tools in the bed. A red flag, to be sure, but it's frankly nothing compared to this Ford Expedition 'towing' a Saab 9-3 convertible on the North Loop off US 290 near Houston. I put it quotes because I don't think it should really count as towing when you use a single chain. The Saab in this tandem purportedly suffered some kind of 'wheel or tire issue' on Monday afternoon that resulted in its driver not calling an actual tow truck, but instead getting hauled away by the Ford SUV with only a chain—while still riding in the vehicle. ABC13 Houston spoke to a witness who is responsible for the footage we have, and he pointed out something I frankly missed trying to figure out what the hell was going on here: There's a man in the driver seat as the convertible is swaying and swinging wildly across multiple lanes of traffic, his head jerking to and fro all the while. The witness also says the woman driving the Expedition was laughing as this played out. But hey: At least they had the sense to turn the hazards on in both cars. Safety first! Unsurprisingly, the Saab's passenger-side mirror was left dangling from the door, while the front fender on the same side was scraped pretty severely. Without knowing the condition of the individual in the Saab, we can at least say that it appears other drivers gave this chaos ample room to unfold, and thankfully, nobody else was swept up in the madness. All because of a flat, apparently! Look, I have no more information than ABC13 Houston shares here, and yes, I can see the bare rim on the Saab's driver-side front tire. But it's hard to believe that even the least rational person you know would choose this as their solution to one of the most common and benign automotive emergencies there is. It just doesn't track, much like this wayward Swedish convertible. Got tips?
