Young climber on Malaga holiday plummeted to death 'after split second mistake'
An inquest heard Zachary Cook was climbing a route with his dad Jonathan in Malaga when he fell 20 metres, suffering fatal injuries.
A young climber plummeted to his death in a"terrible accident" while on holiday with his father in Spain after a detaching a safety clip at the wrong time.
An inquest heard Zachary Cook was climbing a route with dad Jonathan in Malaga when he fell 20 metres, suffering fatal injuries.
The 22-year-old from Winterbourne, South Gloucestershire, was on an adventure trip when the tragedy struck on December 11 last year, Avon Coroner's Court heard.
Coroner Dr Peter Harrowing spoke at a post-mortem examination, conducted in Spain, and gave Mr Cook's cause of death as poly (severe) trauma resulting from the fall.
The court was told on Monday a group of medics, who were in the vicinity, rushed to help but he died later at the scene.
Coroner's officer Alexis Camp told the hearing climbers are "required to have two safety clips on their person and on the safety wires on the rock face".
He added: "Prior to the start of the climb, they were informed to only unclip one of the safety clips from the safety wire at any one time and never to unclip both safety clips at the same time.
"Around halfway through the route, Zachary unclipped both of his safety clips from the safety wire, which resulted in him falling around 20 metres below."

The court heard a group of medics were in the vicinity and went to Mr Cook's aid but he died later at the scene. Area coroner Dr Harrowing said: 'The family have no concerns surrounding any of the treatment or care received by Zachary from any of the medical professionals involved.
"They believe this was a terrible accident and nothing more could have been done.'
He recorded a conclusion of misadventure, adding: 'He fell around 20 metres while climbing causing him to suffer traumatic injuries. The conclusion as to the death based on the evidence will be recorded as misadventure.
'The family (are) not in attendance today but I nonetheless send my most sincerest condolences to the family and all the friends of Zachary at this time.'

British man charged over 'mock wedding' with 9-year-old in Disneyland Paris
The 39-year-old faces multiple charges including fraud, money laundering, identity theft and abuse of trust. A British man has been charged by French prosecutors after he organised a "mock wedding" in Disneyland Paris involving a nine-year-old girl in the role of the bride. The 39-year-old, who reportedly acted as the "groom" during the fake ceremony, faces multiple charges including fraud, abuse of trust, money laundering and identity theft after his arrest at the entertainment resort in Marne-la-Vallee, France, on Saturday. Police were alerted by a "guest" who claimed he was hired to play the father of the bride. A statement shared by the prosecutor of the tribunal in Meaux Jean-Baptiste Bladier said the man "explained he was paid 12,000 euros to play the role of the father of the bride and realised at the last minute that she was nine years old." The child, a Ukranian national, had arrived in France with her 41-year-old mother two days before the mock ceremony, the prosecutor added. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Four people were arrested in total on Saturday - including the British "groom", the girl's mother, a 24-year-old Latvian woman who played the sister of the bride, and the 55-year-old Latvian man hired to play the "father of the bride", the tribunal said. Prosecutors say Disneyland Paris was 'deceived' into hosting the event after fake ID documents and the identity of the Latvian man were used to book the private ceremony. Around 100 hired extras were also falsely presented to the company as wedding guests. The British man appeared before the tribunal of Meaux on Monday, after which he was charged. French authorities confirmed on Tuesday they have contacted British police and revealed he is a convicted sex offender wanted in the UK. Mr Bladier wrote in a statement: "(He) was reportedly convicted in the past, including for offences of a sexual nature against minors. "He is, as such, listed in the British database of sexual offenders and is currently wanted nationally by the judicial authorities of his country of origin due to a breach of the requirements deriving from said order." Mr Bladier said in a previous statement published on Sunday that the wedding ceremony was "fictional and meant to be recorded in a private capacity". Preliminary findings also stated the "groom" had allegedly been "made-up professionally so that his face appeared totally different from his own", according to the prosecutor. The 24-year-old Latvian woman currently remains a witness in the investigation, the prosecutor said.

Trump Turnberry vandalism suspect arrested in London over golf course damage
The total number of people arrested now stands at eight. Another suspect has been arrested over damage caused to the golf course at Trump Turnberry during a vandalism attack earlier this year, police have said. Police Scotland said a 57-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with damage to the course, in Maidens Road, Turnberry, South Ayrshire. The force revealed he was detained in London on Tuesday June 24 after the incident was reported at around 4.40am on Saturday, March 8. The man has not appeared in court and has been released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date in connection with the case against him. His arrest takes the total number of people detained in connection with the vandalism to eight. A 27-year-old woman was also arrested on April 27 in connection with the incident and was due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court the following day. Pro-Palestine scrawls and slogans were etched across the four-star golfing resort, near Girvan. As well as having red paint splattered across the front of the upmarket facility, "Gaza is not 4 sale" was also sprayed across one of the greens. Pictures from the scene showed the white clubhouse covered in slashes of red paint and the golfing green hacked. Palestine Action, which took responsibility for the attack, said the move was a 'direct response to the US administration's stated intent to ethnically cleanse Gaza". Trump's comments include plans to 'clean out the whole thing'. An AI-generated video shared by the President, showed Gaza transformed into a "Middle Eastern paradise". The video depicted beaches, skyscrapers and yachts, and featured an AI generated Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sipping cocktails by a pool. Trump sent a message to the two million population on his Truth Social platform, writing: 'To the People of Gaza: A beautiful Future awaits, but not if you hold Hostages. If you do, you are dead'. The Trump administration recently signed off on the shipment of 40,000 bombs to Israel. Days after the incident Eric Trump, son of the US President, touched down at Edinburgh Airport in his dad's private Boeing 757 jet on March 13. He met First Minister John Swinney for what was described as a 'business meeting.' Eric Trump took over the running of some of his father's businesses in 2017. A spokesperson from Palestine Action said in a release from the group: 'Palestine Action rejects Donald Trump's treatment of Gaza as though it were his property to dispose of as he likes. "To make that clear, we have shown him that his own property is not safe from acts of resistance. We will continue to take action against US-Israeli colonialism in the Palestinian homeland.' A Trump Turnberry spokesman said previously: "This was a childish, criminal act. Turnberry is a national treasure and will continue to be the number one beacon of luxury and excellence in the world of golf."
