Former Ohio State player highlights and moments from the first week of the NFL preseason
We like to take a little peek into some of the NFL action after Saturdays are done during the college football season, and with the preseason already kicking off this past weekend, it seems like a good time to check in to see what former Buckeyes are doing in the NFL as things continue towards the start of the 2025-2026 NFL calendar.
There are plenty of former Ohio State football players littered across NFL rosters, and many are fighting for either a spot or a larger role within their team. At other times, some are well established but still queueing up the highlight machine, even early on as things get rollin.'
Here's a look at some of the best moments and highlights from former Ohio State players doing showing up and showing out during Week 1 of the NFL preseason.
TreVeyon Henderson takes it the distance
Henderson is a big play waiting to happen, and he showed that immediately by taking his first touch 100 yards for a touchdown. You can expect the Patriots to try and get the ball to him a lot this year to take advantage of his game-breaking ability.
Once a Buckeye ...
The brotherhood is real. You see these types of meet-ups and camaraderie every time Ohio State players meet up in the NFL and beyond.
Justin Fields settles in
Looks like Fields wore a "jersey" to the stadium for his Jets debut before he slipped on the real thing. We'll see more from him in a moment.
Jack Sawyer in the black and gold
If you ever wondered what Jack Sawyer would look like as an Iowa Hawkeye, here's your chance. All jokes aside, Sawyer looks the part and had flashes in his first action for the Steelers.
Emeka Egbuka from the Bucks to the Bucs
Look, finally, a football player that looks normal walking into a game. Some of these guys get awfully weird with their wardrobes once money is no option. Ebugka is endearing himself awfully well to his teammates and fans already down in Tampa, and it's just the beginning.
Egbuka hauls in his first catch
You can bet that this will be the first of many. I have zero doubt that Ebguka is going to thrive down in Tampa, and we'll be talking about him a lot!
Fields showing off that athletic ability
And ... this is what Fields brings to the table for New York. If he can find some chemistry with his wide receivers, look out for a breakout year.
Trey Sermon finds pay dirt
It'll probably be hard for Sermon to carve out a significant role in the Steel City, but finding the end zone more often certainly doesn't hurt.
Three Buckeyes flying high for the Jets
If you are an Ohio State fan, there are a few teams that are now appointment television, with the latest being the New York Jets, which have a trio ready to improve the passing game in the Big Apple.

Highlights from Bears' joint practice with Bills
The Chicago Bears were back at Halas Hall on Friday, where they hosted the Buffalo Bills for a joint practice ahead of their preseason game on Sunday. While the Bears flat-out dominated the Miami Dolphins in last week's joint practice, it was more balanced against the Super Bowl contending Bills. But that's not to say this Dennis Allen defense didn't bring the heat, as the defense got after quarterback Josh Allen, including intercepting him three times. Meanwhile, quarterback Caleb Williams and the offense got off to an impressive start and faced some adversity during red zone and two-minute drill. But it was an overall successful practice, where Rome Odunze and Olamide Zaccheaus shined. Although, there's huge concerns about the Bears' left tackle battle and pre-snap penalties. With media and fans in attendance, there were some highlights from this joint practice. But it was an overall successful practice, where Rome Odunze and Olamide Zaccheaus shined. Although, there's huge concerns about the Bears' left tackle battle and pre-snap penalties. As far as injuries go, rookie defensive tackle Shemar Turner returned to practice for the first time since the start of camp. But he didn't participate in team drills as he ramps back up to action. Meanwhile, quarterback Case Keenum is day-to-day with a leg injury. There was an injury scare where tight end Cole Kmet came up limping during a red-zone drill, but he returned to the field. What is the best and worst case scenario for the Minnesota Vikings in 2025?
Every NFL team has a floor and ceiling, the Vikings are one of those teams that have the largest gap between them. Coming off a 14-win season with backup Sam Darnold, expectations are high due to them turning the keys to the franchise over to top draft pick J.J. McCarthy. Doing that, though, creates as many questions as it gives answers to the team. ESPN's Kevin Seifert gave his predictions for the floor and ceiling of the Vikings' season, and record-wise, they are similar. For the ceiling, he thinks 11-6 is possible. Whereas a floor is 6-11, so the opposite of the ceiling in the exact way. Seifert wrote about the floor and ceiling of the Vikings, saying, "Is Kevin O'Connell serious about the run game? The Vikings coach took a step toward balancing his offense in 2024 from its pass-happy ways in 2022-23, but the ascendance of first-time starter J.J. McCarthy will necessitate a bigger shift. The Vikings will also need to run more effectively after ranking 25th in the NFL last season in EPA on running plays. There is good reason to think they can, after pairing Jordan Mason with Aaron Jones Sr. in the backfield and acquiring three new starters on the line. McCarthy continued to develop during training camp, but counting on him to be a 4,000-yard passer in his first season seems unrealistic." The whole thing will come down to J.J. McCarthy. Fairly or unfairly, that is where things stand as most of this roster returns, with some pieces even revamped, such as their offensive and defensive lines. If McCarthy plays well, this team will reach its potential, but if he doesn't, this team is going to be left picking up its teeth in a tough NFC North.
