Infosys Foundation launches livelihood programme to make half a million youths industry ready by 2030

The Hindu15-07-2025
Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic and CSR arm of Infosys, on Tuesday (July 15, 2025) launched the 'Infosys Springboard Livelihood Program' to enable half a million job seekers in India to find employment by 2030.
The foundation also made a commitment of over ₹200 crore to fund the first phase of the programme.
According to the company, Infosys Springboard Livelihood Program would focus on job creation for both graduate and undergraduate youth across STEM and non-STEM industries. The programme would also offer industry-relevant curricula in cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning, and training in functions like digital marketing and finance. In addition, it would cover foundational modules on communication skills, time management and interview preparation to assist learners and job seekers in developing essential workplace competencies.
Infosys Foundation has roped in some 20 implementation partners, including ICT Academy, Unnati, Nirmaan, Magic Bus, Aga Khan Rural Support Programme, Centum, CII Foundation and NIIT Foundation, to curate diverse job opportunities and create meaningful career pathways.
Sumit Virmani, trustee, Infosys Foundation, said, 'The big opportunity in our country is to focus on skilling initiatives to meet industry and AI-age demands, and then shape a path from learning to livelihood. The Infosys Springboard Livelihood Program is conceptualised to meet this urgent need.''
By partnering with experts and investing in industry-relevant curricula, the program would empower talented youth in India to skill themselves to secure and sustain rewarding careers, thereby also paving the way for job creation to drive the country's advancement and economic growth, he added.
V. Srikanth, Chief Executive Officer, ICT Academy, said, ``The demand for a workforce skilled in advanced IT, KPO, BFSI, Retail, e-commerce, and logistics has never been higher.''
This programme has the potential to be a game-changer in the lives of unemployed youth, akin to the transformative impact of the mid-day meal scheme for underprivileged children, opined Ramesh Swamy, Founder, Unnati Foundation.
Infosys Springboard, a digital learning platform from Infosys, has placed over 80,000 job seekers in new jobs across industries in FY25, the company claimed.

How innovative funding powered Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line stations

Bengaluru: The Yellow Line of Namma Metro, linking RV Road to Bommasandra, is emerging not only as a key transport link through the city's IT corridor but also as a showcase of corporate-backed infrastructure. Through an innovative financing scheme by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), major companies have directly funded the construction of stations, giving the city's public transport a financial and infrastructural lift. Under the model, companies fund station construction in return for benefits such as naming rights, advertising space, dedicated walkways to campuses, and commercial areas. The terms vary depending on the agreement. Biocon Foundation reached an agreement in 2020 to contribute Rs 65 crore for the Hebbagodi station, while Delta Electronics reached an agreement in Dec 2024 to invest Rs 65 crore in the Bommasandra terminal. This method, BMRCL said, is enabling it to execute projects by reducing dependence on borrowed funds and will help achieve the objectives of funding with participation by private entities/corporates. A BMRCL source said: "Namma Metro is the first Metro in India to introduce innovative financing schemes. Under this model, philanthropic arms of companies can fund construction of Metro stations using their CSR (corporate social responsibility) funds or other resources. If a company contributes Rs 100 crore, Rs 65 crore is collected for naming rights (30 years), Rs 10 crore as fee for providing a dedicated walkway to their campus (99 years), and Rs 25 crore for commercial use of dedicated space at stations, along with advertising displays for 30 years. " The Infosys Foundation also paid Rs 15 crore for the installation of platform screen doors. Konappana Agrahara will be the first station in Bengaluru to have such doors. Sources said the foundation also made a huge investment in the aesthetics of the station. As per the official, BMRCL is also in talks with companies for naming rights to the Electronics City and Hoskur stations. On the Outer Ring Road (ORR) stretch, the Metro authority has already reached agreements with two companies to fund stations. City's first double-decker flyover The Yellow Line incorporates the city's first Metro-cum-road corridor from Ragi Gudda to Silk Board. Proposed in 2017, the change to the original plan was aimed at easing congestion at Ragi Gudda, Jayadeva, BTM Layout, and Silk Board while providing seamless access to ORR and Hosur Road. The state govt agreed to fund the road component of the double-decker flyover. After years of delay, BMRCL last year opened a 5km stretch of the road flyover from Ragi Gudda to Silk Board, including the ramp over the Silk Board overpass. The elevated road from HSR Layout to Ragi Gudda is expected to open by the end of 2025. Jayadeva interchange tallest in city Another major change on the Yellow Line was the demolition of the Jayadeva flyover in 2019 to make way for a massive interchange station between the Yellow and Pink Lines. The flyover, built in 2005, was pulled down in phases, causing prolonged traffic bottlenecks on Bannerghatta Road and towards Silk Board. The new Jayadeva station, with six levels and a built-up area of about 20,000sqm, will be the tallest in the city and can handle up to 25,000 passengers during peak hours. The road flyover from Ragi Gudda to Silk Board passes through the station. Partial commissioning for Yellow Line commuters is scheduled for Monday. Nifty IT extends weekly losing streak to five, worst in over two years as tech stocks continue to plunge

The rout in domestic tech stocks has extended into this week, with the Nifty IT index losing another 0.72%, extending its weekly losing streak to the fifth straight week, the largest weekly drop in little over two years. The last time the index logged losses for five consecutive weeks was between February and March 2023. The index has lost 12.17% over the last five weeks, causing it to lose 20% in 2025 so far, making it the worst performer among major sectoral indices. Eight out of ten constituents of the index are in bear market territory, trading with a drop of more than 20% from their recent peak. On Dalal Street, corrections are defined as losses of 10%, while bear markets are marked by drawdowns of 20% or more. Oracle Financial Services has dropped 36.2% to ₹ 8,424 from its December peak of ₹ 13,220, and TCS shares have crashed 33.8% from its August high to ₹ 3,036, wiping out over ₹ 5 lakh crore of the company's market capitalization. Other tech majors such as Infosys, HCL Technologies, and Wipro are also trading with cuts of 29.07%, 26.66%, and 26.36%, respectively. In fact, all ten constituents of the index are now down over 15% from their recent record highs. Investors seem to be driving away from these once high-flying stocks as persistent macroeconomic pressures, delayed project ramp-ups, and subdued discretionary spending have led to concerns that would continue to weigh on demand in the upcoming quarters as well. Over the last few quarters, clients of Indian IT services have been cutting their IT budgets due to economic uncertainty, especially in the US and Europe. Many large enterprises are prioritising cost optimisation, resulting in an increase in cost take-out deals, vendor consolidation, and a reduction in headcount costs, impacting the manufacturing and retail segments. This delay has also impacted the companies June-quarter performance, with the majority reporting single-digit top-line growth. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) missed quarterly revenue estimates as clients remained cautious about non-essential spending amid US tariff-related uncertainty. The tech bellwether is also planning to cut 2% of its workforce, or around 12,000 jobs, in the ongoing fiscal year. HCL Tech reported a June-quarter profit below analyst estimates and lowered its operating margin forecast for FY2026. Infosys saw revenue rise 7.5% to ₹ 42,279 crore, while net profit increased 8.6% to ₹ 6,921 crore. Wipro's topline grew marginally by 0.8%, but there was a sequential decline of 1.6%. Additionally, the ongoing tariff tensions have also influenced the US Federal Reserve policy decisions as the central bank remains cautious, concerned that higher tariffs could hurt consumer pockets and push up inflation. This also led the policy makers to hold interest rates steady for the fifth consecutive meeting in July, despite repeated pressure from the White House to lower borrowing costs. The lacklustre earnings and weak demand outlook have also spooked overseas sentiment as foreign investors offloaded $2.27 billion worth of Indian IT stocks in July, their highest sectoral exit since March 2022, data from the National Securities Depository shows. In July 2025, FIIs were net sellers to the tune of $2.9 billion, turning net sellers after four consecutive months of being net buyers. Until 10th July, FPIs were net buyers, purchasing equities to the tune of approximately $0.4 billion. They then turned net sellers and offloaded Indian equities worth $3.2 billion over the rest of the month, with a high quantum of selling seen towards the end of July. Following the IT sector, other sectors with significant outflows included BFSI (USD 671 million), Realty ($450 million), Auto ($ 412 million), Oil & Gas ($ 372 million), and Durables ($ 302 million).
