Students told to enhance skills in line with demands of job market

Students must enhance their skills in line with the demands of the job market, said ICT Academy project manager E. Dinesh. Speaking at the inaugural session of a training programme 'Finishing School Employability Programme' launched for students of Maris Stella College, Vijayawada, Mr. Dinesh said that students cannot succeed with just a degree, as they need to develop additional skills relevant to the current job market demands. To secure good employment opportunities and establish themselves, students need to improve their professional skills and communication abilities, he emphasised. College correspondent Leena Quadros said that the programme was launched in collaboration with the ICT Academy and Infosys Foundation, specifically for degree students. Mr. Dinesh explained that the course was designed to include 100 working hours and it would focus on areas such as communication skills, logical thinking, reasoning, critical thinking, mental ability and interview preparation. The training is structured to help students withstand the competition in the job market and become self-reliant, he said. Vice Principal of the degree section, Usha Kumari, head of Commerce Department, Poojitha, and faculty member Padmaja participated in the event. A total of 65 students from Commerce and BBA streams attended the programme.
