Scotland star left unemployed at 33 as he leaves club just two games into next season
Cooper featured 25 times for CSKA last season after making the move to Bulgaria as a free agent in September, following a decade long spell at Leeds United.

The defender was keen to get involved at the Bulgarian club, speaking to the CSKA Sofia website he said: 'I spent an amazing 10 years at Leeds, the club that will always be my home and close to my heart. But it was an opportunity I couldn't refuse.
'European football for a huge club in Bulgaria is all I wanted, to challenge myself in a new culture and a new environment.
'I've never had an opportunity like this. This one seems good for me and my family.'
He spoke about Scottish Premiership legend Stiliyan Petrov's involvement in the transfer: "When I first heard about the interest in me, I was very enthusiastic - to come to a European capital, a big city and a club with such a history.
'I spoke to Stiliyan Petrov and Iliya Gruev, who is at Leeds. They told me great things, which made the decision easier."
Championship clubs will be on high alert with the former Leeds captain likely favouring a move back to England.
The 33-year-old would add a welcomed surge of experience to any club in the league with over 200 appearances in the English Championship for Leeds United.
Cooper joined Leeds from Chesterfield in 2014/15 and started his 10-year long journey at the club, becoming a hugely influential figure both on and off the pitch.
He captained the club to Championship glory in 2020 under Argentinian coach Marcelo Bielsa.
Earning them their awaited return to the Premier League after a decade long stint in the Championship.

Cooper's impressive form for Leeds United earned him 19 caps for Scotland, making his debut for his country in a 2-1 loss to Russia in 2019.
He has since became a Scotland regular and was selected for Steve Clarke's Euro 2024 squad.
Championship club Hull City could be a potential destination for the Scottish centre-back.
Cooper came through the youth ranks at the club, and with the Tigers currently subject to a transfer embargo, it is likely that they will be monitoring the free agent market.

Because at the very least it will buy him a bit more time with the Ibrox punters who are fed up with managers making excuses for this group of players. Whether it will make a blind bit of difference remains to be seen. SCOTT BURNS: Definitely. You have to set standards from the off and Rangers were lucky to even get a point at Motherwell. Results and performances like these have happened too often at Rangers and have been major factors in why they have trailed Celtic. MICHAEL GANNON: He was entitled to slap down an early marker and he wasn't wrong on a lot of points. It was still a gamble though, especially when the midfield set up looked so suspect. Should Gers fans expect their side to get past Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League qualifier? KEITH JACKSON: They can't be sure what to expect from this side but they do have every right to think a place in the next round is absolutely achievable. Failure to get there will not go down well. SCOTT MCDERMOTT: They should expect it but that's not to say it will happen. Plzen are a side Rangers should be beating, which would give themselves a real crack at the Champions League. But the display at Fir Park doesn't bode well for Tuesday night. SCOTT BURNS: If Rangers don't progress it would be a major blow. I was out with Hearts against Viktoria Plzen last season and Hearts should have beat them. If they don't progress then major question marks need to be asked. MICHAEL GANNON: It's too early to expect anything from Rangers right now. Plzen have been written off but they have tested plenty of decent teams in recent year and are capable of doing damage. Is it now inevitable Brendan Rodgers will leave Celtic at the end of the season? KEITH JACKSON: That all depends on what happens between now and the end of the transfer window. Rodgers has effectively put a gun to the head of Dermot Desmond and the board. It's now all about the nature of their response. SCOTT MCDERMOTT: Not inevitable but your gut reaction - after his comments last week about the board matching his ambition - certainly makes you think he's working his notice before leaving next summer. Which is what many of us expected to happen. SCOTT BURNS: The ball is in the hands of the Celtic board. If they back him then there is a chance he will stay. If they don't then it looks like his second coming will soon be coming to an end. It certainly looks like it will be the latter unless the club significantly ups its transfer activity. MICHAEL GANNON: There might actually be more chance of him staying now than before. Rodgers has told the board what it will take to convince him to stick around longer and it's now fully over to them. Can Hibs and Dundee United keep their Euro dreams alive? KEITH JACKSON: Hibs were unlucky not to get past Midtjylland last week but will have enough to take care of their Serbian opponents this time around. It looks like a much tougher assignment for United to get the better of Rapid Vienna. Unfortunately this feels like the end of the European road. SCOTT MCDERMOTT: It would be brilliant if they could but both have really tough ties. Can Hibs recover after that late kick in the teeth against FC Midtjylland? And are United really good enough to beat Rapid Vienna? It's difficult to see either side going through. SCOTT BURNS: It is going to be difficult because it is so early in the season and they are playing sides who are used to playing in Europe. These are games where our clubs need to start putting down markers and winning ties like this rather than putting out a plucky fight and bowing out. Hopefully, one if not both can progress. MICHAEL GANNON: They both have pretty tough ties. It's hard to see them getting through but it is about time Scottish teams caused upsets in Europe rather than being on the end of them. The key is staying in the ties for the second legs.

A year after being released by Manchester United, defender Brandon Williams has been on trial at another club and looks to have convinced them to sign him permanently Brandon Williams is set to be offered a permanent contract by Hull City to bring a year of unemployment to an end. The full-back has been on trial at the MKM stadium in recent weeks as he bids to return to full-time football. The former Manchester United defender made his second appearance for the Tigers as they faced Getafe on Saturday, having already featured in a friendly against Sunderland. And now he is set to be afforded an opportunity to impress over a longer period with Hull hoping to get a deal ratified ahead of their first match of the season against Coventry City, per Hull Live. Williams, 24, was released by United little over a year ago and has been without a club since. Earlier this year he was handed a suspended jail sentence for a 99mph car crash. The Red Devils academy product was sentenced to a 14-month jail term, suspended for two years, at Chester Crown Court. In the aftermath, he stated his ambition to get back on the pitch. 'I have always accepted that my driving that day fell below the standard that is expected of me. It was never my intention to cause injury to anyone but I am responsible for the standard of my driving. I make no excuses. I have learnt from this experience and will ensure there is no repetition. 'I wish to apologise again to those who were involved in the accident. Now that the case has concluded I look forward to resuming my career with a new team later this year.' Williams last played a competitive match during his spell on loan at Ipswich Town in the Championship. The defender's most recent appearance came against QPR in late December 2023. Nevertheless, Hull believe Williams still holds potential, and boss Sergej Jakirovic is prepared to give the versatile defender another opportunity. Speaking last week, the Bosnia coach spoke highly of the trialist. "I like to help people because everyone deserves a second chance in life," he said. "I spoke with him very honestly, and I explained to him what I expect from him. We will be very careful, very, very slow. We have time, so we will try to help him. "I think the quality is there because he was on a high level at Man United, so his quality is there. We need him to bring good fitness, and then we will make a decision. For me, his mentality is good. From our conversations, he's a very normal guy. "He just asked me yesterday (Monday), 'can I play?' and then I asked him, 'do you feel comfortable to play some minutes?' His desire is there, and so is the hard work. On Saturday, we left him here in Hull to carry on training and so far, everything has gone according to the plan." I think it can be really special for all of us."Speaking of special, Colwill's younger brother Joel made his first league start for Cardiff alongside him on Saturday."This has been our dream since we were like five, six years old, and to be able to do it together, I think sometimes we don't realise how rare and how special it is to be able to play with your brother," Colwill the elder said."Lots of brothers play for different teams and stuff, but to be able to grow up with each other, play for the same teams, and then do it for the first team is incredible."
