CM: Sabah Native Affairs Council drafting replacement for Native Court Enactment
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the act would be replaced to ensure the Native Court is more effective and relevant.
"This draft requires input from the Sabah Attorney General's Office, Sabah Public Service Department and (Sabah) Finance Ministry before it is submitted to the state cabinet and subsequently tabled at the State Legislative Assembly.
"It is one of many initiatives the state government is looking at to benefit people at the grassroots," he said at the launch of the Kaamatan Festival at the Pisompuruan Hall in Tambunan, near here.
On another matter, Hajiji said the state government, through the Sabah Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Ministry, remained committed to enhancing the state's agriculture self-sufficiency level, which is currently at 22.8 per cent.
To achieve this, the state government revived the Sabah Padi and Rice Board last year and is developing 22,146ha of abandoned padi fields in Tuaran, Kota Belud, Kota Marudu, Keningau, Papar and Tambunan.
"This will help the ministry increase Sabah's food self-sufficiency level to at least 30 per cent by 2026 and 60 per cent by 2030."
On the Rural Agricultural Economic Revolution Programme launched yesterday, Hajiji said it was in line with the spirit of Kaamatan and signified the state government's deep concern for low-income groups, particularly the poor and hardcore poor in rural areas.
The programme aims to boost agricultural output to drive the economic growth of self-subsistent farmers.
"It not only aims to improve agricultural yield and food security in Sabah and Malaysia, it also aims to elevate the economy of rural folk and empower farmers, fishermen and agropreneurs so that they can be self-reliant, innovative and generate sustainable income," Hajiji said.
"With modern technology, supply chain support systems and the opening of new markets, this programme paves the way for rural communities to rise as key players in Sabah's economy.
"As income increases, job opportunities are created and young people can return to their villages with knowledge and hope. The community will become stronger, more united and more prosperous."

Committee to review 1,247 Sabah citizenship applications
Saifuddin (seventh left) and Hajiji (eighth right) with the committee members before the meeting. KOTA KINABALU (Aug 14): A total of 1,247 citizenship applications from Sabah will be evaluated by the newly established Sabah State-Level Special Committee on Citizenship Status, jointly chaired by Federal Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. Saifuddin revealed this after chairing the committee's inaugural meeting at Menara Kinabalu today. He said the applications, made under Article 15A of the Federal Constitution, were among more than 2,000 submissions recorded from 2021 to 2024. 'This committee has been established to thoroughly review and recommend decisions on each citizenship application. These include applications involving children born out of wedlock, those under institutional care, and children born to non-citizen parents, among others,' he explained. He added that the committee was formed to expedite decisions on the 1,247 cases currently under its consideration, following a similar mechanism already in place between the Home Ministry and the Sarawak Government. During the meeting, Saifuddin and Hajiji also co-chaired the Central Committee on Foreign Nationals Management, which aims to digitalise data collection efforts.

‘Ask Hajiji and Bung Moktar': Shafie denies leading ‘Kinabalu Move' to oust CM in 2023
KOTA KINABALU, Aug 16 — Parti Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal has denied his involvement in the attempt to oust Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as Sabah chief minister in 2023, dubbed 'Kinabalu Move'. The former chief minister saidthe move had stemmed from a dispute between Hajiji and his then deputy, Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin. 'The Kinabalu Move was not my political move. You should ask them why they were in conflict,' he reportedly told Free Malaysia Today, referring to Hajiji and Bung Moktar. 'We were in the opposition benches all the while,' he added, referring to his party. Kunak assemblyman Datuk Norazlinah Arif had implicated Warisan last month, claiming that four or five Warisan leaders would be named to the state Cabinet if they had backed Bung Moktar in the move. She has since left Warisan to join Hajiji's Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah. In January 2023, rumours arose of Bung Moktar leading the state Umno to work with Parti Warisan to oust Hajiji from his state chief minister post. Both Bung and Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal claimed Hajiji no longer commanded the majority of the 79-seat Sabah legislature. But Anwar brokered a temporary truce when he flew to Kota Kinabalu from an official visit to Indonesia and asked Hajiji to set aside political differences to form a unity state government. Sabah is expected to hold its state election soon, with Pakatan Harapan agreeing to ally itself with Hajiji's Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.

‘Kinabalu Move' the ultimate betrayal of Sabahans, says Kunak assemblyman
Kunak assemblyman Norazlinah Arif says Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor is a fair and more accessible leader who does not place reliance on rhetoric. KOTA KINABALU : The infamous Kinabalu Move, aimed at ousting Hajiji Noor as Sabah chief minister, was the ultimate betrayal of Sabahans, according to Kunak assemblyman Norazlinah Arif. Norazlinah was with Warisan in 2023 when the party, led by president Shafie Apdal, plotted with Sabah Umno to replace the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah government. The two-term assemblyman said Warisan members were hoping the memorandum of understanding — struck between the party, GRS, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan on Dec 16, 2022 — would benefit the people. The intention was to back the newly established unity government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, she added. 'Our hope at the time was that the leaders of the respective parties and coalitions would unite to prioritise the rakyat above their personal interests or that of the party. 'Unfortunately, the opposite happened,' she told FMT, referring to the failed 'coup' led by Sabah Umno. In January 2023, Bung Moktar Radin, the Sabah Umno chief, announced that the party was withdrawing its support for Hajiji. However, six Umno assemblymen pledged continued support for Hajiji, foiling Bung's plans which had the backing of Warisan and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat. Pakatan Harapan and GRS assemblymen also pledged their undivided support for Hajiji, who assumed the top post in September 2020 following a state election. Bung was subsequently dropped as the state's deputy chief minister. Last month, Norazlinah claimed there was nothing altruistic about the Kinabalu Move. She said she and several others were informed that four or five Warisan leaders would be named to the state Cabinet if they backed the Bung-led coup. Following its failure, Norazlinah and several other Warisan assemblymen threw their support behind Hajiji. Norazlinah is grateful the attempted coup failed due to a lack of support for Warisan president Shafie Apdal as the next chief minister. 'Many assemblymen, mainly from BN and PH, were also in favour of retaining the current administration (under Hajiji). 'For me, that was a sign that we were betrayed by a party that was supposedly championing the people's rights.' Hajiji has treated us well The Kinabalu Move was the straw that broke the camel's back for Norazlinah. On Feb 6, 2023, she left Warisan, a party she had been with since its founding in 2016. She expressed no regrets for her decision, especially after aligning with Hajiji, whom she praised for addressing the people's issues through action rather than rhetoric. 'Hajiji treats all assemblymen fairly, myself included, despite the fact that I only recently joined GRS,' she said, adding that the chief minister was also more accessible. According to Norazalinah, there is talk of Warisan joining forces with BN for the upcoming state election, despite Shafie previously stating that the party intends to contest all 73 seats on its own. She said such talk contradicted Warisan's previous stance on an alliance with BN. 'When we first joined the party, we were indoctrinated to think that our mission was to topple BN. 'Their (Warisan's) ego is forcing them to forgo that very principle — all because they are power hungry.'
