Patti LuPone reveals Audra McDonald is ‘not a friend' following Broadway stars' feud
Patti LuPone got candid on where she and her fellow Broadway performer, 54, stand after years long tension.
The actress, 76, told reporter Michael Schulman of the New Yorker that McDonald is 'not a friend.'

Without going into detail, LuPone noted to the outlet that their relationship ended due to an incident years prior.
After Schulman asked the singer to share her thoughts on McDonald's current role as Rose in 'Gypsy,' the 'And Just Like That…' actress allegedly sat in silence before turning to the window, letting out a sigh and exclaiming, 'What a beautiful day.'
The Post has reached out to a rep for McDonald.

LuPone previously won a Tony for playing Rose in 2008. McDonald was nominated for a Tony for her part in the musical, which made her the most nominated performer of all time with 11 nods.
She has already taken home six Tonys, while LuPone has received three.
Although there is no friendship between the two Broadway legends, they have performed together over the years. In 2000, the actresses starred in the New York Philharmonic's concert version of 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.'

LuPone and McDonald also costarred in the LA Opera production of 'Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny' in 2007.
During her profile, the 'Agatha All Along' alum didn't hold back while talking about a separate issue she has with Kecia Lewis after the pair had words on social media last year.
The 59-year-old uploaded a clip to Instagram in which she chastised LuPone for calling the musical 'Hell's Kitchen' 'too loud.'

Lewis said, 'These actions, in my opinion, are bullying. They're offensive, they are racially microaggressive, they're rude, they're rooted in privilege. And these actions also lack a sense of community and leadership for someone as yourself, who has been in the business as long as you have.'
She concluded her message by sharing some advice for LuPone and other Broadway stars.
'Let's continue fostering an environment on Broadway that recognizes and values all shows for their unique contributions and energy, and that celebrates the diversity of voices and sounds and stories that we all bring to the stage,' Lewis suggested. 'Ms. LuPone, I respectfully submit to you that you owe us an apology — not flowers. Thank you for listening.'
LuPone was starring alongside Mia Farrow in the play 'The Roommate' at the time and shared a wall with the musical. She said she could hear the show's sound cues, which were too loud.

'She calls herself a veteran? Let's find out how many Broadway shows Kecia Lewis has done, because she doesn't know what the f–k she's talking about,' LuPone said about Lewis' video. 'She's done seven. I've done 31. Don't call yourself a vet, bitch!'
Schulman then told the 'American Horror Story' actress that McDonald had responded to Lewis' post with two heart emojis and two clapping emojis.
'Exactly,' LuPone replied. 'And I thought, 'You should know better.' That's typical of Audra.'
Elsewhere in the interview, the Hollywood vet addressed her 'painful' seven year on-off relationship with ex Kevin Kline.

The two dated in the 1970s, with LuPone confessing to The New Yorker, 'I took an instant dislike to him.'
'He looked like Pinocchio to me,' she expressed. 'He had skinny legs and he was tall, and I didn't really see the handsomeness.'
But soon after, LuPone and Kline, 77, began 'feeling each other up' in the back of an art-appreciation class.
As she put it, 'He was a Lothario.'
While together, LuPone and Kline starred alongside one another in the 1975 Broadway musical 'The Robber Bridegroom.'

'It was a painful relationship,' LuPone detailed. 'I was his girlfriend when he wanted me to be his girlfriend, but if there was somebody else he would break up with me and go out with that person. And I, for some reason, stuck it out — until I couldn't stick it out anymore.'
Kline went on to marry Phoebe Cates in 1989. The pair have two kids, Owen and Greta.
For her part, LuPone tied the knot with Matthew Johnston in 1988 and welcomed son Joshua Luke Johnston shortly after.

Decades into her career, in 2024, the superstar spoke candidly about belonging on the stage.
'This is all the way I was born, more indication that I was born to the boards,' she told The Grand Tourist. 'I was born to do what I do. My voice is a result of a lack of knowledge, quite frankly. When I was growing up, I'd sing along to Dionne Warwick in those keys, not my keys. I didn't even know what my keys were. And I sang along to rock and rollers. I sang along to when I was growing up. That was my music because that was the beginning of it.'
Now, with an upcoming role on Season 3 of 'And Just Like That…,' LuPone predicted what work she wanted to do more of at the time.
The musician, who described herself as 'funny, curious, a tourist,' during the chat, stated, 'I'd like to end my career on TV or in film,' because 'it's easy.'

The Sex and the City revival series aired its series finale on Thursday, Aug. 14, meaning that, once again, it's time to say goodbye to Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis). In addition to the conclusion of the storylines of our favorite ladies — minus Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), who did not return for the finale — the show also bid farewell to newcomers Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury), Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker), as well as Anthony Marentino (Mario Cantone). Find out how And Just Like That… came to an end after three seasons. Carrie Bradshaw The episode began with Carrie visiting an Asian restaurant where she ordered food on an iPad, was served by robot waiters and was forced to sit across from a giant plush tomato since she was eating alone. Carrie later complained about the restaurant when attending a bridal fashion show with Charlotte, Seema and Lisa, saying it was taboo for women to be alone in the past and, based on this experience, it will also be taboo in the future. After the fashion show, Carrie walked home with Charlotte and said she feels more alone now than ever. She suggested that maybe she should stop thinking "maybe a man" and start accepting "maybe just me." Later, while chatting with Adam (Logan Marshall-Green) in her garden, she asked him to give her something "more wild and free." Carrie went on a pie-delivering spree before she arrived at Miranda's new apartment for Thanksgiving, which saw its list of attendees nearly halved before dinner at started. While initially greeted by Miranda and Brady (Niall Cunningham), she was ultimately left alone with the mother of Brady's baby, Mia (Ella Stiller), and her friends, as well as Mark Kasabian (Victor Garber). When the awkward Thanksgiving dinner was over, Carrie worried that Mark would offer to take her home, but he saw himself out after a bathroom incident (more on that later). Carrie quietly left Miranda's apartment when Miranda's girlfriend Joy (Dolly Wells) finally showed up. Carrie went home to enjoy a slice of pumpkin pie while she danced around her townhome to Barry White's "You're the First, the Last, My Everything." The episode ended with Carrie at her laptop — with her cat Shoe playing behind her — as she rewrote the epilogue of her book which read: "The woman realized she was not alone — she was on her own." Afterward, Carrie danced down her hallway and disappeared around the corner. Miranda Hobbes While at dinner with her former husband Steve Brady (David Eigenberg), Miranda learned he wasn't coming to her Thanksgiving gathering. Steve also informed her that he wanted to make amends with Brady after coming to terms with the fact that his son is becoming a father. The pair agreed they are on the same page about figuring out how to be in their future grandchild's life. At Thanksgiving dinner, Miranda greeted Carrie by telling her that Joy wasn't coming because her dog was sick. After calling Joy and finding out her dog was having surgery because it swallowed a LEGO, Miranda left to be by Joy's side during the scary experience. Miranda later returned to her apartment to eat with her guests and was greeted by Mia and her off-putting friends, Silvio (Paulo Hernandez-Farella) and Epcot (Spike Einbinder). Things were awkward — Silvio barely responded to her but continued to vogue around the living room — but at least, Miranda made headway with Mia in mending their relationship. After dinner, Mark quickly left after the toilet overflowed due to Epcot's constant use throughout the day. While Miranda cleaned up the mess, Joy arrived to spend time with Miranda as a thank you for her showing up for her, while Carrie departed. Miranda told Joy that Steve and Brady had made amends, but she questioned how her life ended up like this. Joy embraced her and commented on their shared "mess" before the two enjoyed pie together. Charlotte York Goldenblatt Charlotte was looking to reignite the flame of their sex life with Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler). After dealing with his inability to make love after his cancer surgery, he informed Charlotte — while she was basting their turkey — that he was aroused. They ran off to their bedroom to celebrate. Earlier in the episode, Charlotte had a discussion with Lisa at the bridal fashion show about marriage, during which the two women agreed they are both steadfast in their relationships. While delivering her dish to Miranda's apartment, Charlotte admitted to Carrie that she was trying to set her up with Mark, which Carrie didn't appreciate. Carrie noted that Mark had been married three times already, but Charlotte thought the fact that he had a plane outweighed that. The episode ended with Charlotte around the table with her family. Rock (Alexa Swinton) asked Charlotte to see photos of themself in their school production of Thoroughly Modern Millie, but Charlotte deleted them from her phone. Lily (Cathy Ang) said she still has them, though, while Rock told Charlotte that they will be a lot of people in their life. It was a moment of togetherness for the York Goldenblatts. Seema Patel Seema got ready in her bathroom when a fully nude Adam walked in and proceeded to pee. While peeing, he called weddings a "waste of time" and the concept of marriage "such a ridiculous idea," clearly upsetting Seema. Seema brought this up with Carrie at the bridal fashion show, telling her that Adam was "literally pissing all over the idea" of getting married and that she was in love with a man who won't ever commit to her. Carrie asked her if she had to get married, and Seema unloaded the societal expectation of women to desire marriage, saying she has been groomed and programmed to want it since she was a little girl. After a bit of back and forth, Seema wondered if it was Adam's responsibility to make her feel chosen, or if her desire to feel that was more indicative of a flaw within herself. During Carrie's pie-delivery montage, she dropped one off with Seema as she was getting in a car to meet Adam for Thanksgiving. Carrie remarked about Seema wearing jeans. Later, Seema appeared happy with Adam. Lisa Todd Wexley While Lisa and Marian (Mehcad Brooks) were in the edit booth working on their docuseries, when she received a message from Marian's contact close to Michelle Obama. As it turns out, Obama was interested in potentially narrating the project. Marian suggested they get dinner or drinks to celebrate, but Lisa shot him down and said they need to keep their relationship professional. At the bridal fashion show, Lisa expressed her frustration in her marriage to Herbert Wexley (Christopher Jackson), who was still upset over losing the election, but her conversation with Charlotte strengthened her resolve to make things work. She returned home and told Herbert she would stand by him whether he's in Tom Ford suits or sweatsuits, and he vowed to perk himself back up. The episode ended with Herbert offering to clean up the Thanksgiving dinner mess, which made Lisa happy. Anthony Marentino When Carrie saw Anthony while making her rounds of delivering pies, he revealed that he couldn't go to Miranda's because he needed to have a conversation with Giuseppe (Sebastiano Pigazzi), after indicating he wasn't sure they should get married following their proposal in the previous episode. Even the most devoted ‘Sex and the City' fans were disgusted and disappointed by ‘And Just Like That' — the Fyre Festival of TV shows
'And Just Like That … ' ended as it started: terribly. I'm not the only 'Sex and the City' fan who thinks so. On Thursday, I attended a small viewing party for the finale of the reboot series with a group of pals who loved the original. Like me, the majority of them were disappointed and, yeah, disgusted. Advertisement 6 Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw at her laptop in the final scene of *And Just Like That … ' HBO 'This is unhinged!' one — dressed as actress Lucy Liu from her 2001 'SATC' cameo — shouted as a shockingly gross scene played out. 'Over twenty years of watching this show, and this is what we get?' What could have provoked such a response? Advertisement Thanksgiving dinner at Miranda's apartment, when a person named Epcot — yes, Epcot — clogged the toilet. Epcot is a friend of Mia, the hyper-flatulent girl knocked up by Miranda's son, Brady. But the show's writers didn't think it enough to simply tell us about plumbing difficulties. They showed us. For at least 10 seconds, the remains of Epcot's day assaulted our eyes. It was gag-inducing and vile. 6 Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) cleans up a clogged toilet in the finale of 'And Just Like That…' — then commits a disgusting act. HBO (Not even 'Dumb and Dumber' went so far as to allow the results of Jeff Daniel's laxative-induced bathroom ordeal to appear on screen). Advertisement And now, a glamorous franchise built on fashion, friendship and sex will be remembered for actual crap. Remember when fans were so excited for the premiere of 'And Just Like That … ' back in 2021? We were promised more time with the most fabulous friends the Big Apple has ever known. That first episode brought us up to current day for the iconic characters' lives. 6 In the series premiere of 'And Just Like That … ' Mr. Big played by Chris Noth dies of a heart attack. Charlotte struggled with her tomboy (soon to identify as nonbinary) daughter not wanting to wear a frilly Oscar de la Renta dress. Carrie, responding to current industry trends, fired Samantha as her book publicist; in turn, Samantha cut everyone off and moved to London. We met the 'queer, nonbinary, Mexican Irish diva' Che, who soon added another facet to 'their' lengthy identity cluster: the most insufferable character to ever appear on HBO (or Max or whatever they're calling it these days).. And Mr. Big died from a post-Peloton cardiac arrest. 6 Che (left, played by Sarah Ramirez) was the most insufferable character on the show. Even in this Season 3, as the series tried to extricate itself from the humorless pit of identity politics and limp toward the finish line with unrealistic plot lines and characters, poor acting — and far too much nudity from Cynthia Nixon, who disappeared the real Miranda so she could play herself. How would they land the plane? I joked that maybe they wouldn't. Perhaps, en route to a girls' trip in Portugal, the ladies would all die in a fiery plane crash and put us all out of our misery. That would have been brave and merciful. Advertisement Instead, with Thursday's series finale, we were given a literal pile of crap. 6 The good old days of 'Sex and the City' were edgy, funny and included the wild Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall. Moviestore/Shutterstock Thankfully, HBO Max does not offer the scratch-and-sniff option. The gross-out continued as Miranda, wearing rubber gloves to clean the sewage leak in her bathroom, is surprised by her girlfriend — who she excitedly embraces, rubbing those contaminated gloves all over her beloved's back. Advertisement Instead of 'Awwww,' the room I was in filled with a chorus of 'Ewwww.' 'Take off the filthy gloves!' one friend yelled. It was like the Fyre Festival of streaming TV. 6 In the series finale, Carrie Bradshaw delivered pies to all of her friends on Thanksgiving Day. Craig Blankenhorn/HBO Max Advertisement The show wrapped up with a soulless montage showing the characters in their respective homes, eating the Thanksgiving pies Carrie had hand delivered earlier in the day. Meanwhile, Carrie returned to her massive Gramercy spread solo. She took to her computer, erasing the epilogue of her novel set place in the 1800s — and instead wrote, 'The woman realized she was not alone. She was on her own.' After all that, Carrie ended up single in a home so big it could have eased our city's migrant housing issue. Advertisement Her love story, which drove the entire franchise, became an afterthought. But I did get a genuine laugh courtesy of 'Sex and the City' this week as I watched the new version of 'The Naked Gun.' In the movie, someone mentions Miranda Rights to the bumbling Lieutenant Frank Drebin Jr., ably played by Liam Neeson. He deadpans in response: 'No Carrie writes. Miranda is the lawyer.' And I couldn't help but wonder … if the stars and creators of 'And Just Like That … ' could go back in time and kill the series before it sullied a great legacy, would they? I hope so.
