Abdul Carter signs $45 million rookie contract with Giants

Yahoo22-05-2025

Abdul Carter had some issues finding the number he would wear with the New York Giants. The No. 3 overall pick from Penn State couldn't wrestle No. 56 from Lawrence Taylor or No. 11 from Phil Simms.
The defensive end didn't have any troubles with the following digits: $45,255,180.

That's how much he will earn over the course of the four-year contract he signed on Thursday with Big Blue.
Carter moved from linebacker to DE in 2024 for James Franklin's Nittany Lions. He had a huge season with 12 sacks and 24 tackles for losses.
He joins a Giants defensive line that already boasts Kayvon Thibodeaux, Brian Burns and Dexter Lawrence II. Brian Daboll will need the defense to be stalwart as his team looks to improve on a last-place finish in the NFL East in 2024.
Burns played a role in getting Carter's contract finalized. He had his contract restructured into a $10 million bonus so the Giants could sign Carter.

Ex-New York Giants WR Golden Tate recalls 2020 fight with Rams' Jalen Ramsey

Ex-New York Giants WR Golden Tate recalls 2020 fight with Rams' Jalen Ramsey Former New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate was surrounded by controversy throughout his tenure in East Rutherford. It started when he joined the team and was suspended for four games for violating the league's rules on performance-enhancing drugs. Tate appealed the decision, saying it was for fertility, but the NFL denied the appeal. Things ended when the Giants released him after the 2020 season, in which Tate often complained about his lack of touches. The other nail in his coffin with the Giants happened after a game against the Los Angeles Rams when he and Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey got into an altercation. Ramsey has two children with Tate's younger sister, Breanna, and Tate took issue with how his sister was being treated. He recently appeared on the "Bussing with the Boys" podcast and opened up about the altercation. "Things happened within that relationship where I don't think my sister was done or treated the way she should have been treated," Tate said. "When that happens, who do you have to come see? You've got to come see Big Bro. I think I might have made it public like he going to have to see me at some point, but it wasn't to the point where I was about to fight him on the field or anything. I guess he took that personal." Indeed, Ramsey also took it personally as the two sought each other out after the Giants' 17-9 loss and had it out on the field until they were separated. While the two aren't best friends now, it seems they have at least learned to put their quibbles to the side for the sake of the children involved. "We haven't talked, but I think we both kind of have agreed to not be knuckleheads for the betterment of his daughters and my nieces, and that's kind of where we stand," he said. "I do think he's grown as a man. I know I've grown as a man. I made mistakes as a youngin' as well, so I do think he has gotten better. I do provide grace in that area, but that's still baby sis, right?" After his release from the Giants, Tate signed with the Tennessee Titans' practice squad before retiring from the NFL.

New York Giants select DL Marcell Dareus in PFF's 2011 NFL re-draft

New York Giants select DL Marcell Dareus in PFF's 2011 NFL re-draft In 2011, the New York Giants were in the midst of the Tom Coughlin era that saw Big Blue win two Super Bowls. They didn't have a top pick in the draft that year, selecting 19th overall, and the roster didn't need an immediate impact player. That was the year they selected cornerback Prince Amukamara, but hindsight is always 20/20, and Pro Football Focus thinks they would have gone a different direction if they had the information then that we have now. Rather than selecting Amukamara with that pick, PFF suggests the Giants should have selected defensive tackle Marcell Dareus. PFF makes these suggestions based on its own grades, and while Dareus may have had a bigger impact on the Giants than Amukamara did, they also would have had to deal with his off-field issues. Dareus faced scrutiny and suspensions for multiple violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy and was arrested after a car accident that resulted from a drag race. Amukamara, meanwhile, has solid character and is still well-respected around the league. And, if we're being honest here, Dareus would not have been in competition for much of anything with the likes of Justin Tuck, Chris Canty, Linval Joseph, and Jason Pierre-Paul taking up residence on the defensive line.

Pennsylvania 2026 star offensive tackle Grayson McKeogh has Notre Dame as a finalist

Pennsylvania 2026 star offensive tackle Grayson McKeogh has Notre Dame as a finalist Notre Dame is one of three finalists for four-star Class of 2026 product Grayson McKeogh, but the Fighting Irish will have a tough act to beat after the offensive tackle enjoyed his visit to Penn State. The 6-foot-7, 275-pounder from La Salle College (Glenside, PA) will visit Notre Dame June 13-15 before heading to Texas June 20-22. It's not very often Texas recruits a Pennsylvania product either, which speaks to how impressive the offensive lineman has been. It's been quite the rise for McKeogh, who had never played on the offensive line for the Explorers until head coach Brett Gordon took over the program before his junior season. Now, the former defensive end is one of the most desirable left tackles in the country and the seventh-best prospect in his state, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. His visit to State College reportedly went very well, so it's going to be difficult for the Fighting Irish to woo the star tackle, who could stay in-state and play for a strong Big Ten program. Additionally, Texas will get the chance to make one final impression. Can the Longhorns win this tight battle? McKeogh plans to make his decision July 1.
