Panthers DL Derrick Brown cleared for 'all activities' ahead of training camp

USA Today22-07-2025
The Carolina Panthers are getting back the wrecking ball of their defense.
President of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan hit the lectern on Tuesday for his pre-training camp press conference. He was asked about the outlook on defensive lineman Derrick Brown, who missed 16 of the team's 17 games this past season due to a knee injury.
"He's doing good. He was cleared for all activities," Morgan stated. "He's looking great, he's feeling great. We're excited to have him back, and he's a huge piece of our defense."
Brown sustained the setback during Carolina's Week 1 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The campaign prior saw the former seventh overall pick notch 103 tackles, a single-season record for a defensive lineman, as well as his first career Pro Bowl selection.
Carolina's defense, without Brown for about 95 percent of their games, went on to make some history of their own. The Panthers allowed 534 points, the most in NFL history, and a league-high 179.8 rushing yards per game.
Morgan was then asked if the coaching staff will apply some load management for the returning Brown.
"We're gonna be smart with guys," Morgan replied. "We're not just gonna throw them out there and say, 'Go ahead.' We wanna be smart, we wanna do it the right way and bring him along slowly. But I know him—he's champing at the bit to get out there and be full-speed and be in there every play with his teammates. But we have to be smart."
The Panthers will hit the field for their first practice of training camp on Wednesday.

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts considers his legacy versus what the future holds

Jalen Hurts discusses his accomplishments and looks ahead to the future. "Nothing that I've accomplished in the past, will get me what I desire in the future."@Eagles QB @JalenHurts on his mindset and cracking a BIG 😄 after winning the Super Bowl.📻 | @BruceMurrayNFL | @TorreySmithWR Jalen Hurts' psyche has been discussed so often that it's almost becoming a challenge to find new angles. Who cares? Stories about his journey from the Alabama Crimson Tide to the Oklahoma Sooners never get old. Neither do tales of the shock of seeing him drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round. It's a story that includes Tua Tagovailoa, a carousel of offensive coordinators, and a few endorsements. He helped birth a 'quarterback factory'. He eventually took over as the full-time starter. We can officially state that the decision worked out nicely for Philadelphia. He appeared in two Super Bowls and won one before his 27th birthday. Oh, and by the way, he was named the game's MVP the second time around. Jalen Hurts offers a masterclass on balancing past success with future goals. SiriusXM NFL Radio visits every NFL training camp every summer. A visit to the City of Brotherly Love yielded a sit-down with Hurts. Who knew? Jalen Hurts cracked a smile that quickly followed a game. We're teasing, of course. It's good to see someone so driven take the time to celebrate his accomplishments. Hurts will continue to be his harshest critic. He'll keep on 'keeping the main thing the main thing' because, remember, he had a purpose before anyone else formulated an opinion. A Second-Team All-Pro in 2022, he has found his way onto two Pro Bowl rosters. He celebrated his 27th birthday on August 7. Rarely have we seen this level of maturity from someone so young. Talk about a breath of fresh air. Talk about class. P

Car accident involving Panthers CB Jaycee Horn caught on camera

According to TMZ, Wednesday morning's car accident involving Carolina Panthers cornerback Jaycee Horn has been captured on camera. The video was posted by charlottedashcam on Instagram yesterday afternoon, and shows Horn's black Mercedes-Maybach SUV colliding with a pickup truck at an intersection. Per the team's official statement, the accident occurred at the corner of Charlotte's Mint and Morehead Streets, just outside of Bank of America Stadium. Here's the clip: Horn did not participate in Wednesday's joint practice with the Cleveland Browns, but was present and seen doing individual work alongside fellow starting corner Mike Jackson. Head coach Dave Canales was asked about Horn's status following the session. "Yeah, I don't have a lot of details," Canales told reporters. "I'm glad that Jaycee was okay. He did have to have a few stitches in his left thumb area. And so, they got that all cleaned up sutured up. He's day-to-day right now. We're just gonna kinda evaluate. It doesn't seem like anything else happened." Canales ruled Horn out of Friday's preseason matchup with the Browns. He does, however, hope the Pro Bowl defender will be available for the team's second exhibition game in Houston on Aug. article originally appeared on Panthers Wire: Car accident involving Panthers CB Jaycee Horn caught on camera
