10th Local Dates Festival concludes with over 90,000 visitors
The 10th Local Dates Festival, organised by the Ministry of Municipality in collaboration with Souq Waqif Management, concluded its activities after running from July 24 to August 7. The top-selling variety was Khalas, with 75,658 kilograms sold, followed by Shishi (33,057 kg), Khneizi (31,232 kg), and Barhi (18,772 kg). Additionally, 12,684 kilograms of other date varieties and 2,057 kilograms of fruits were sold. As the thirteenth day of the Tenth Local Date Festival concluded, the event so far welcomed more than 78,300 visitors. A total of 150,863 kilograms of dates have been sold so far, reflecting a strong demand for high-quality, locally grown dates. The festival hosted produce from a total of 114 farms in Qatar, offering a diverse range of dates, including popular varieties such as Khalas dates, a premium variety widely cultivated in the gulf region, selling more than 66,008 kilograms. In the competitive "Khalas" dates category, first place was awarded to the farm of Abdulhadi Suleiman Haidar, whose quality and presentation earned top honors. The farm of the heirs of Khalil Mansour Al Hajri secured second place, while third place went to the heirs of Abdulhamid Al Ansari.
