RELA Offers Free Haircuts at Perak MADANI Rakyat 2025
LUMUT: The People's Volunteer Corps, more popularly known as RELA to Malaysians, are usually associated with keeping public order during major events, but this time at the Perak MADANI Rakyat Programme 2025, their free haircut service has taken centrestage and become a star attraction.
The free haircut service at the Home Ministry (KDN) booth in Lumut Waterfront here is being offered to the first 40 visitors daily throughout the three-day event, Perak Rela director Razib Buhaini said, adding that the department always prioritised service to the public, no matter what the situation.
'This way, RELA can deliver its service... with a bit of help from us, it might help reduce costs for families and those who have financial difficulty in getting a haircut,' he told Bernama today, adding that haircuts these days cost between RM10 to RM15 per head.
He noted that the quality was on par with what existing barbers offered as the RELA members giving the haircuts are skilled barbers themselves.
'Those providing the haircuts all have the necessary barber skills.... our service also depends on requests of styles, but if there are those asking for over extreme styles, we don't do it. At least we can keep your hair neat,' he said, pointing out that the haircuts were only for men.
A RELA member who was providing haircuts, Muhamad Zulhafiz Kamis, 34, said he signed up with RELA in 2016 with his barber skills.
He learned the craft by himself and now he was able to use it on a part time basis to help rural communities, especially those in his village in Beruas.
'My village is in a rural area, so barbers are quite far so I'm the one who provides the service,' he said, adding that he believed that RELA members needed to have a neat presentation to function as a bridge between the government and the public.
'It started out as my hobby when I joined RELA, we understand being presentable is important as we are an intermediary between the people and the government,' he said.
The Perak PMR 2025 is from 9 am to 10 pm on Friday and Saturday, and ends on 6 pm on Sunday. Government service booths operate from 9 am to 6 pm throughout the three-day event.

'This programme has also indirectly given us seafood traders a platform to promote local products like fish crackers, fish satay and sambal ikan bilis,' he said. Held at Lumut Waterfront, the Perak PMR 2025 brought together over 200 services from various ministries and government agencies, attracting over 200,000 visitors to 36 booths throughout the three-day event. Perak is the second location to host the large-scale PMR initiative, a result of strategic collaboration between the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit (PACU) of the Prime Minister's Department, which serves as the main secretariat, and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), as the lead ministry.

Perak PMR 2025 Draws Over 200,000 Visitors
GENERAL LUMUT, June 15 (Bernama) -- The Perak edition of the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025, held at the Lumut Waterfront, concluded today, drawing over 200,000 visitors throughout the three-day event. Led by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), the programme which carried the 'Pendidikan Tinggi Pemacu Negara MADANI' theme, surpassed its initial target of 100,000 visitors. In a statement, MOHE said the Perak PMR 2025 met its primary objective of bringing government initiatives and services closer to the people, in line with efforts to strengthen an inclusive, competitive, and high-impact higher education ecosystem. MOHE stated that the highlights of the programme included 230 public touchpoint services, the MADANI sales involving eight entrepreneurs, a career carnival featuring 12 employers, 75 on-stage engagement sessions, 16 satellite programmes and mobile services provided by eight agencies. It said MOHE also offered free basic motorcycle servicing, mangrove seedling planting, free health screenings, as well as initiatives such as a beach clean-up activity involving international students. A variety of interactive and engaging activities were also conducted to enliven the event, including an exhibition by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), which offered visitors the chance to cruise the waters of Lumut aboard the agency's Sealegs amphibious boat. This edition of PMR was also enlivened by the 'Battle Taranum Live' event, which involved students from the Darul Quran under the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM). Visitors also took the opportunity to check the accuracy of their Al-Fatihah recitation at JAKIM's booth. Ramping up the excitement was the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), which performed a silent drill. The RMN band also captivated visitors with their performance at Dataran Lumut Waterfront on Saturday and Sunday. The Perak PMR 2025 also saw people thronging the Road Transport Department (JPJ) summons payment counters, which recorded collections totalling RM31,450.
