K-pop's top MAMA Awards to return to Hong Kong for first time since 2018
One of the world's top K-pop awards ceremonies will return to Hong Kong for the first time since 2018, taking place in the city's 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium in November.
The return of the MAMA Awards, formerly known as the Mnet Asian Music Awards, to the city is expected to be bigger than ever, with the event previously being hosted at the 12,500-seat AsiaWorld-Arena in 2018. The ceremony was first held in the city in 2012.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, the event's official account announced that the ceremony would take place on November 28 and 29. Organisers have yet to release a seating plan or ticket prices for the show.
The post attracted about 20,000 likes within just three hours of being published.
Social media users welcomed the event's return to the city, with one describing Kai Tak Stadium as an 'awesome venue'.
The MAMA Awards are considered one of the most popular events in K-pop, with groups such as BTS, Wanna One and Twice collecting awards at the last local edition of the event in 2018. Ticket prices at the time ranged from HK$888 (US$113) to HK$2,488.

Undergoing only brief treatment can worsen the infection and increase the risk of transmission, posing a public health threat, according to authorities. Treating the contagious disease usually takes at least six months, according to the Department of Health. Shangri-La Dialogue: France's Macron warns credibility at stake if war condemnation inconsistent
French President Emmanuel Macron has warned of double standards in condemning conflicts, calling on world leaders to be consistent and form a coalition with a rules-based order in light of the ongoing wars around the world. During his keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD) on Friday night, Macron took swipes at Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Israel's hostilities in Gaza and China's aggression in the disputed waters of the South China Sea, pointing out that the 'big risk' was to forget the universal principles that connected all conflicts. The French president is the first European leader to deliver the keynote speech at the dialogue, widely considered as Asia's premier defence summit. The dialogue, now in its 22nd edition, is organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies and has participants from 47 countries including ministers, chiefs of defence forces and prominent academics. China did not send Defence Minister Dong Jun to the SLD, a departure from its practice in the past three years. Instead, a delegation from the National Defence University is in Singapore to attend the forum, which began on Friday and will last till Sunday. Hong Kong hoping ‘Summer Viva' campaign will make tourists extend stays
The Hong Kong Tourism Board will ramp up efforts to encourage family and business visitors to extend their stay in the city by promoting diverse travel experiences, the body's new chief has said. Advertisement Board chairman Peter Lam Kin-ngok said on Friday that Hong Kong could no longer rely on past glories by only promoting itself as a food and shopping paradise and should capitalise on the increased number of tourists and opportunities brought by the current geopolitical situation. 'Hong Kong is safe for family tourism. You don't find any other places like Hong Kong, safe and convenient with multiple choices for your choosing,' Lam, whose tenure started in April, said. Hong Kong welcomed 12.2 million arrivals in the first quarter of 2025, a 9 per cent year-on-year increase, the largest quarterly growth since travel resumed after the Covid-19 pandemic. Arrivals plummeted by 94 per cent year on year to 3.57 million in 2020 as the pandemic struck, compounding an already sharp decline seen from months of social unrest, with daily visitor numbers falling from 200,000 in the first half of 2019 to below 3,000 in February 2020. Advertisement 'My biggest challenge as the new chairman is I don't blindly just chase visitor arrival numbers, more important is the quality. And one big challenge is how to keep the tourists to stay in Hong Kong longer,' Lam said, adding that currently tourists stayed for an average of 3.2 nights.
