'Sonia Gandhi respects the traditions of this country. After Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, she lived a reclusive life for seven years and only entered politics when the people wanted her to. She did not take up the Prime Minister position despite huge support and that is sacrifice, which the BJP would never understand,' he said. Even Rahul Gandhi also declined the [Prime Minister] post and instead supported Dr. Manmohan Singh. 'Tell me, would BJP leaders ever make such sacrifices?' he asked. Alleging that 'vote theft' was a reality and the BJP had been committing irregularities in the electoral rolls, he charged, 'Houses where only two people live show over a hundred voters. The Election Commission has become a puppet in the BJP's hands.' He dismissed the BJP's current leadership as lacking the values of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani.

Taking a swipe at the saffron party, Congress directed its pointed attack, "Your photoshop is really good." In a sharper dig aimed at PM Modi, the party said, "Ask your paw paw nrndrmdi to give a better idea. " — INCKerala (@INCKerala) On X, Congress Kerala posted: "Your photoshop is really good, except for one mistake. The National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT) was constituted by the 69th Constitutional Amendment Act of 1991. It was Union Territory of Delhi in 1980. Ask your paw paw nrndrmdi to give a better idea." Meanwhile, another Opposition MP, this time from the Trinamool Congress , targeted Amit Malviya in a post on X: "BJP's IT cell coolie has posted a FORGED document. 'National Capital Territory of Delhi' was created on 2nd Jan, 1992. The document shared by this man is supposedly dated from the year 1980 when 'NCT of Delhi' didn't exist." TMC MP added, "Forgery is a crime punishable with 7 years imprisonment under Sec 336(3) of BNS. Does the vote-chor ECI have the guts to file an FIR against BJP's IT cell head for forging their document?" The remarks came after the BJP on Wednesday sought to turn the tables on Congress over its campaign against alleged "vote theft," accusing Sonia Gandhi of being enrolled twice as a voter without renouncing her Italian citizenship. "Sonia Gandhi's name entered the electoral rolls twice without meeting the basic citizenship requirement — first as an Italian citizen in 1980, and then again in 1983, months before she legally became a citizen of India. We are not even asking why it took her 15 years after marrying Rajiv Gandhi to accept Indian citizenship. If this isn't blatant electoral malpractice, what is?" said BJP IT department head Amit Malviya. On X, Malviya posted a copy of the electoral roll form from the official residence of then PM Indira Gandhi, claiming Sonia's name was added during the revision of rolls with January 1, 1980, as the qualifying date.

NEW DELHI: The BJP on Wednesday launched a counterattack on the Congress, questioning its alleged attempt at 'vote-chori' by reportedly seeking inclusion of Sonia Gandhi's name in the electoral roll years before she was granted Indian citizenship. In response to the Congress's criticism of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) system and its allegations of electoral malpractice, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya took to 'X' (formerly Twitter), saying, 'Sonia Gandhi's tryst with India's voters' list is riddled with glaring violations of electoral law.' He wrote, 'This perhaps explains Rahul Gandhi's fondness for regularising ineligible and illegal voters, and his opposition to the SIR. Her name first appeared on the rolls in 1980 — three years before she became an Indian citizen and while she still held Italian citizenship. At the time, the Gandhi family lived at 1, Safdarjung Road, the official residence of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Until then, the voters registered at that address were Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi, and Maneka Gandhi.' Tagging a copy of the requisition slip for adding Sonia Gandhi's name, Malviya claimed, 'In 1980, the electoral rolls of the New Delhi parliamentary constituency were revised with January 1, 1980, as the qualifying date. During this revision, Sonia Gandhi's name was added, appearing at serial number 388 in polling station 145'. He alleged in the post, 'This entry was a clear violation of the law, which requires a person to be an Indian citizen to be registered as a voter. Following an outcry in 1982, her name was deleted from the list — only to reappear in 1983. But even her reinstatement raised serious questions. In the fresh revision of the electoral rolls that year, Sonia Gandhi was listed at serial number 236 in polling. Thakur's vote theft charge Ex-Union Minister Anurag Thakur alleged voter registration irregularities in Rae Bareli, Wayanad, Diamond Harbour, and Kannauj. He accused Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Akhilesh Yadav of winning through 'vote theft.'
