Anti-Communal Task Force a veiled appeasement: MP

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta strongly criticised Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara for announcing an Anti-Communal Task Force. Chowta questioned the legitimacy of the Anti-Communal Task Force , drawing parallels to the controversial Communal Violence Bill proposed by former AICC president Sonia Gandhi. "That bill, in the name of communal harmony , sought to single out and target Hindu voices. This so-called task force smells no different—it reeks of the same appeasement agenda," he said, and warned that any attempt to impose such an agenda-driven force on the region will be firmly resisted. He also criticised the home minister for visiting Mangaluru in connection with the Suhas Shetty murder case and making announcements without involving any of the local elected representatives. "This is not the India of the Congress era, where Hindus could be taken for a ride, their rights trampled upon and appeasement wrapped in policy decisions be thrust down their throats. This is a battle between nationalism and fundamentalism. And it is time we call a spade a spade. Because it is fundamentalism—within and across our borders—that is gnawing at Bharat. And we must respond to it in a way that sets precedent—not silence," the MP said. Instead of confronting the real threat, the Congress govt wants to do a cover-job by branding the entire region as communal, he added. Practically difficult: CPM CPM Dakshina Kannada district secretary Muneer Katipalla said that home minister G Parameshwara's statement about establishing an Anti-Communal Task Force is practically difficult to achieve. "It could potentially lead to negative outcomes. Controlling communalism and communal forces is not something that can be done solely by police. It is a theoretical system that was organised and developed over a long period. Fighting against it means working with alternative programmes in social, cultural, and political fields. It is hard to believe that the Congress govt, which is not prepared for even small resistances against communal forces, will implement the statement about forming an Anti-Communal Task Force," he said, recalling the failed attempt of the govt to establish an Anti-Moral Policing Wing of the police in the region.

Capt. Chowta objects to Home Minister making announcements without involving local elected representatives

Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta on Saturday, May 3, criticised Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara for visiting Mangaluru in connection with the Suhas Shetty murder case and making announcements without involving any of the local elected representatives. In a statement here, Capt. Chowta said, 'It is absolutely undemocratic and disrespectful that without taking any of the people's representatives into consultation, the Home Minister has apparently 'taken stock' of this sensitive situation in coastal Karnataka.' He also questioned the Congress government's shifting stance—from initially calling Suhas Shetty's murder a case of personal or gang rivalry to now branding it as 'communal.' 'Wasn't it the Congress government that first rushed to call the murder a case of personal rivalry and gang wars? Now suddenly, they're calling it 'communal.' What changed? Are they admitting Suhas was killed for being Hindu? If they have the courage, let them say it openly,' he said. Capt. Chowta said, 'Because the painful truth is—Suhas, just like Praveen Nettar, Deepak Rao and so many of our karyakartas before him, was targeted and killed for being a Hindu Nationalist by fundamentalist forces.' Instead of confronting the real threat, the government wants to do a cover-up job by branding the entire region as communal, the MP said adding it was not communal violence; but religious rivalry. He said, 'This is a battle between nationalism and fundamentalism—where the latter is emboldened by the Congress party's vote-bank politics and pseudo-secular policies.' Task Force Questioning Mr. Parameshwara's announcement on anti-communal task force, Capt. Chowta drew parallels to the controversial Communal Violence Bill proposed by Sonia Gandhi. 'That Bill, in the name of communal harmony, sought to single out and target Hindu voices. This so-called task force smells no different—it reeks of the same appeasement agenda.' He warned that any attempt to impose such an agenda-driven force on the region will be firmly resisted.
