Rare breed of horse cherished by the late Queen joins Bishop Auckland theatre show

Yahoo18-07-2025
A rare breed of horse once beloved by the late Queen Elizabeth II, is taking part in a County Durham outdoor theatre production this summer.
Nicknamed Major, the 14.1-hand pony is one of only 5,000 Highland ponies left. The Queen was a strong supporter of the breed's conservation and kept her own herd at Balmoral.
Major has now joined the cast of Kynren - An Epic Tale of England, appearing in Viking battle scenes alongside shire horse Cosmo.
The show, starting this Saturday, July 19, is hosted in the UK's largest outdoor theatre event this summer at 11Arches Park in Bishop Auckland.

"He has made such an impact on the team and is a wonderful character with his own unique personality - he's stolen a few hearts already.
"Getting to work alongside the horses, and spending time with them every day, is a huge privilege for the entire cavalry team.
"We get to see them flourish - onstage and off - and it really is such a joy to see them get as excited for the shows as we do."
Staff at the show's cavalry squad had the job in settling Major to his new home whilst training up for the tenth anniversary summer shows.

"He is a complete natural on stage and he has been loving the attention from our volunteers.

The 90-minute show features live animals and a volunteer cast, covering 2,000 years of English history.
Kynren runs Saturdays from July 19 to September 13.

Kylie Jenner Took Summer's Polka Dot Nail Trend to the Next Level

Getty Images Leave it to Kylie Jenner to take summer's polka dot nail art trend to a whole 'nother level. The reality star and Kylie Cosmetics founder, known for her glamorous approach to all things hair, makeup, and style, combined the classic dotted style with two more nail trends for something that feels 100 percent Kylie. Jenner has been enjoying a European vacation with friends and her children, Stormi and Aire (did you catch her adorable GWRM video with Stormi?), and, well, you can't enjoy the summer sunshine without a manicure to match! Jenner worked with London-based manicurist Michelle Humphrey on her latest set, and Humphrey didn't just decorate Jenner's nails with medium-sized polka dots atop a sheer base—she mixed them up with a white-tipped French manicure and gave the dots a shiny finish for a little extra pizzazz. Jenner's nails were filed into a long oval shape and painted with a sheer base, like the one you'd typically get with a French manicure. Humphrey then added the signature white tips of a French, but she and Jenner didn't stop there! Instead of regular polish dots, the two went for something with a bit more sparkle factor: chrome-finish metallic dots scattered all over the nail, including atop the white tips! Jenner wrote that she was 'obsessed' with the set and I am too. It manages to be both subtle and glam at the same time, so you could easily wear it to work or for a wedding or summer party and it would fit right in. The Kylie Cosmetics founder has been back into nail art this year, including with a snakeskin-printed set that would have been right at home on King Kylie Tumblr and the sweetest studded pastel French manicure. TBH, I often reference her tiny bug-themed manicure from last summer, which was so adorable and so out of character. (Those lime-green tips!) What's next for Jenner and her nail art? You know I'm paying attention. More fun celebrity manis: Megan Thee Stallion's Nails Are the Equivalent of Christian Louboutin Stilettos You Could Play "I Spy" with J. Oasis dedicate song to Ozzy Osbourne as they begin series of gigs in London

Oasis dedicated one of their hits to the late rocker Ozzy Osbourne as they made a triumphant return to London for a series of gigs as part of their world tour. Liam Gallagher told tens of thousands of fans of his pride as the band graced the stage at Wembley Stadium for the first time in more than a decade. Just three songs into their much-anticipated appearance, he declared the crowd was 'f****** beautiful', having bowed to the sea of raised arms before him. Liam and brother Noel played with their band for the first of seven nights at the stadium on Friday – with five shows over the next week and two more scheduled in September. It was the first time they had appeared together onstage at the London venue since July 12 2009, when they performed during their Dig Out Your Soul tour. Towards the end of the gig, they paid tribute to Osbourne. Lead singer Liam said: 'I wanna dedicate this one to Ozzy Osbourne, rock 'n' roll star.' The Black Sabbath star's death at the age of 76 was announced earlier this week. Oasis superfans in bucket hats and branded T-shirts had packed the Tube en route to the gig from earlier in the day, with international accents denoting the band's worldwide popularity. As with previous gigs Liam and Noel walked onstage hand in hand, opened with Hello and proceeded to belt out many of their classics including Some Might Say and Morning Glory. The packed-out stadium was in full voice throughout and at one point Liam threw a tambourine into the jubilant crowd, while later positioning one on top of his head. Despite pledging to concentrate on his vocals rather than talking – telling those gathered 'every time I open my mouth at these gigs I seem to get myself into a lot of trouble so I'm just going to do the singing' – Liam later engaged in some light football banter. The well-known Manchester City fan appeared to poke fun at Arsenal fans in the crowd, joking about their position in the Premier league. Phone camera torches lit up the stadium as darkness fell and crowd-pleasers Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger and Champagne Supernova closed the gig. At various points Noel thanked the crowd, with Liam telling them they had been 'amazing', ahead of fireworks erupting into the London sky. Friday's show – the eighth of the tour – followed a five-night run of homecoming gigs in Manchester's Heaton Park and the two opening shows in Cardiff earlier this month. Following the first part of their Wembley stint, the band will head up north to Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium followed by Dublin's Croke Park. The group will head to Japan, South Korea, South America, Australia and North America later in the year. Oasis announced their reunion tour in August of last year – 16 years after their dramatic split in 2009 which saw Noel quit following a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris. While fans were excited at the Britpop band's reunion, many were left outraged after some standard tickets in the UK and Ireland jumped from £148 to £355. The controversy prompted the Government and the UK's competition watchdog to pledge to look at the use of dynamic pricing.
