Zscaler jumps 8% on strong results fueled by AI growth
Zscaler shares jumped 8% Friday after reporting stronger-than-expected results in the third fiscal quarter driven by artificial intelligence and widespread adoption of its zero-trust security platform.
"The proliferation of AI in all aspects of business is increasing the need for our AI security," said CEO Jay Chaudhry in a release. "We empower customers to securely adopt both public GenAI apps and their own private AI apps, and we are increasing our investments in this area."
The cloud security software company said revenues grew 23% to $678 million from about $553 million in the year-ago period. That topped the LSEG estimate of $666 million.
Zscaler reported adjusted earnings of 84 cents per share, topping the adjusted EPS of 75 cents per share expected by LSEG. Billings rose 25% to about $785 million, ahead of a $760 million estimate from StreetAccount.
Zscaler's earnings come as a hopeful sign for a cybersecurity industry that has shown some pockets of weakness in a volatile macroeconomic environment. SentinelOne dropped after lowering its outlook, while Palo Alto Networks shares declined after missing on gross margin.
The report "echoes the strength we noted in our preview, and begins to prove out the reacceleration story that the company has been pointing to over the past few quarters," wrote Morgan Stanley's Keith Weiss.
Zscaler reported a net loss of $4.1 million, or a loss of 3 cents per share, for the quarter. Last year, net income came in at $19.1 million, or 12 cents per share.
The company issued upbeat adjusted EPS guidance for the fiscal fourth quarter. Zscaler expects adjusted earnings to range between 79 cents and 80 cents a share, versus the 77 cents expected by LSEG.
Along with its earnings, Zscaler appointed Kevin Rubin as its chief financial officer.

RBC on Reddit: Sees early stages of a shift to the 'World Wide Website'
-- RBC Capital Markets initiated coverage of Reddit with a Sector Perform rating and a $125 price target, citing both upside potential and risks as the platform navigates a transforming internet landscape. Analysts describe the shift as 'the very early stages of a shift from the World Wide Web to what we're calling the World Wide Website.' This transition, according to RBC, reflects a consolidation of internet user engagement around a few large-scale generative AI (GenAI) tools. 'RDDT and others in our space may have mixed exposure,' the analysts wrote, referencing industry commentary from the prior week. On the positive side, RBC believes Reddit 'is poised to grow revenue significantly through a classic earlier-stage monetization recipe of user engagement growth, increased ad load, surface expansion and ad tech improvements.' The firm cited channel checks and ad load analysis as support for its revenue growth thesis. However, RBC raised concerns about Reddit's dependency on external traffic sources. 'The question is whether investors will reward that outsized growth with a higher multiple – or will RDDT's heavy reliance on potentially unstable sources of traffic warrant further multiple compression,' the note said. At current levels, RBC sees balanced risk and reward, stating: 'Risk/reward feels more balanced at 23x/16x EV/'26E/'27E EBITDA on the combination of high growth/likely NT upside to numbers offset by secular traffic risks.' The firm emphasized that the key swing factor for Reddit's valuation will be logged-in U.S. user growth, calling it 'both the biggest risk & upside driver.' Dollar General shares jump 15% as discounter raises full-year forecast, shakes off tariff fears
Shares of Dollar General jumped more than 15% on Tuesday as the discounter raised its outlook despite fears that higher tariffs will hurt consumer spending, as more middle- and higher-income shoppers sought deals. The Tennessee-based retailer beat quarterly expectations for revenue and earnings. The company said it now anticipates net sales will grow about 3.7% to 4.7%, compared to its previous expectation of about 3.4% to 4.4%. It expects diluted earnings per share to range from $5.20 to $5.80, compared to its prior outlook of approximately $5.10 to $5.80. Dollar General anticipates same-store sales will increase 1.5% to 2.5%, higher than its previous guidance of about 1.2% to 2.2%. Here's how the retailer did for the fiscal first quarter compared with Wall Street's estimates, according to a survey of analysts by LSEG: In the three-month period that ended May 2, Dollar General reported net income of $391.93 million, or $1.78 per share, compared with $363.32 million, or $1.65, in the year-ago quarter. Dollar General's results stand out in a retail industry that is already taking a hit from President Donald Trump's tariffs. Companies including Best Buy, Macy's and Abercrombie & Fitch have cut their profit outlooks due to tariffs. On an earnings call Tuesday, Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos said the company has worked to reduce its exposure to China — and limit price hikes for shoppers. He said the retailer has worked with vendors to cut costs, moved manufacturing to other countries and made changes to its products or swapped them out for other merchandise. He said direct imports make up about a mid- to high single-digit percentage of its overall purchases and indirect imports are about double that. "While the tariff landscape remains dynamic and uncertain, we expect tariffs to result in some price increases as a last resort, though, we intend to work to minimize them as much as possible," he said. But he added tariffs have also increased U.S. consumers' desire to find deep discounts. Vasos said the company's first-quarter results reflect Dollar General's gains from "customers across multiple income bands seeking value." He said store traffic and the company's market research indicates that more middle- and higher-income customers have come to its stores more frequently and spent more when they visited. "We are pleased to see this growth with a wide range of customers and are excited about our ongoing opportunity to grow [market] share with them," he said.
