Actress Kimberly Chia hospitalised due to back pain after brushing her teeth
Kimberly Chia has been discharged from hospital after one night of observation.
SINGAPORE - Home-grown actress Kimberly Chia has revealed the 'embarrassing' reason for her recent hospitalisation.
She also clarified that her condition was probably caused by a muscle pull or strain and not a slip disc.
'I was already having back pains. An achy back pain that was bearable which I ignored,' the 29-year-old wrote on Instagram on July 18, sharing a video of herself on a stretcher and being sent to hospital.
'Then came Thursday morning, when I was preparing for work and brushing my teeth. I had a gag reflex while brushing my tongue and bent forwards in a jerk.'
Chia, who is married to 37-year-old businessman Vincent Yeo and has a three-year-old son, said that was when she felt something 'snap'.
'It was a sharp pain that made me see stars. Blacked out but still conscious,' she wrote. 'I shouted for my husband and he brought me to lie down. I was crying and I couldn't move. Tried to get up but it hurt so badly. So we decided to call the ambulance.'
The NoonTalk Media artiste said she was admitted to hospital and got an X-ray.

'All was normal but it still hurts. I was given some pretty heavy painkillers but my pain score didn't drop,' Chia wrote. 'Couldn't move, couldn't sit up. So I had to stay one night for observation. It's still painful now but I feel better and can move about, albeit slowly.'
'Reluctant to share the real reason because so embarrassing?! Haha', she added.
Chia, who rose to fame after starring in the crime drama On The Fringe (2011), recently made a cameo in horror-comedy film The Chosen One (2024).
She told Lianhe Zaobao in an interview that was published online on July 21 she was discharged from the hospital that she is feeling better.
Chia said she will undergo physical therapy and arrange for an orthopedic examination. The actress, who exercises regularly, said she did not have any previous back injuries.
'I can walk now, but I can't bend over or make big movements, and I have to turn around slowly,' she told the Chinese-language newspaper. 'I can't drive either, because stepping on the accelerator and brake will affect my back. Everything else is okay.'

Attendees lined up for hours to grab a seat inside the 6,500-person capacity venue, San Diego Convention Center, in San Diego, California, to see the legendary American director behind the Indiana Jones (1981 to 2023) franchise speak at the event on its final day. Comic-Con, which draws some 130,000 attendees, has become an important platform for movie studios and their stars to showcase the latest film and television offerings, especially those with a genre fan base. 'We've been waiting five decades for this,' said panel moderator and American actress-rapper Queen Latifah, who oversaw the discussion by Lucas and other film-makers. Instead of discussing his film works, however, he graced the convention to preview his latest project, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art – opening in Los Angeles in 2026 – which he co-founded with his wife, businesswoman Mellody Hobson. 'I've been collecting art since I was in college,' Lucas, 81, told the crowd, adding that he has amassed tens of thousands of pieces in his collection. 'I've been doing this for 50 years now, and then it occurred to me that what am I going to do with it all because I refuse to sell it.' 'I could never do that, it's not what I think art is – I think it's more about an emotional connection,' he said. In his description of the museum, Lucas said the institution will feature a blend of works. They include illustrations by Normal Rockwell, Jessie Willcox Smith and N.C. Wyeth; artworks by Frida Kahlo, Jacob Lawrence, Charles White and Robert Colescott; and pieces by cartoonists and artists like Winsor McCay, Frank Frazetta and Jack Kirby. 'This is sort of a temple to the people's art,' he said in summation. The museum, housed in a sleek, curved building, will also feature items from Lucas's films and other exclusive pieces. And as you go through life, you're curious about things, but you're especially curious about things you don't understand, and therefore that's a threat to you. 'And as a result, you make up stories to make it feel good,' he continued. 'Science fiction is a myth... but we've made it real because of science-fiction books and art.' SINGAPORE – One of Malaysia's most popular bands, rock quintet Wings, will celebrate their 40th anniversary with a concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Dec 24. Tickets priced from $88 to $248 are on sale via ticketing agency Sistic. While the group have performed several shows in Singapore – including a set at The Star Theatre in 2023 – the upcoming gig will be the first time they are staging a solo one at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. In 2012, Wings were part of a double-bill show at the same venue with fellow Malaysian rock veterans Search. In 2022, they were the first act from South-east Asia to perform at the Formula One Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix's biggest stage at the Padang. Formed in 1985, they are one of the most successful bands from across the Causeway, known for their evergreen rock ballads such as Misteri Mimpi Syakilla (1988) and Sejati (1990). Fronted by singer Awie, they have released more than 20 studio and live albums, including their 1987 debut Belenggu Irama. They are also planning a concert in London as part of their anniversary celebrations. The 56-year-old vocalist staged his solo concert at The Star Theatre in 2024. He is also an established actor who has appeared in box-office hits such as romantic drama Sembilu (1994) and action flick Rebel (2024). Nick Hogan has hailed his dad Hulk Hogan as his "hero". The wrestling legend died from cardiac arrest on Thursday (July 24), aged 71, and Nick has taken to social media to pay a glowing tribute to his dad. Nick, 35, wrote on Instagram: "My dad was the most incredible person I've ever known and will always be my hero. He was the most kind, loving and amazing father anybody could ask for. I feel so blessed to have had the greatest dad in the world. He was not only the best dad but also my mentor and my best friend. He always has been my best friend and I love him and miss him more than I could ever explain. "I thanked him for everything he has ever done for me and told him how much I loved him and hugged him every chance I got. I spent a lot of time with him the past few years after moving back to Florida to be closer to him and I am so grateful for those memories. They are the best moments in my life." Nick admitted that he'll miss his dad "forever". He said: "I will always remember the lessons and advice he gave me and carry on in a way that I know would make him proud. Thank you for being the best dad in the world and thank you for being my best friend. I love you so much Big Dog and I will miss you forever.
