Severe storms are expected on Thursday evening
T-Storm Warning has been issued for east central Volusia County until 6:45 pm.
Movement is to the southeast at 15 mph.
Greatest threats will be winds over 50 mph, large hail and intense lightning.
Storms will continue to impact Metro Orlando and parts of the I-95 corridor through mid-evening.
Channel 9 Chief Meteorologist Tom Terry said Thursday will be a Weather Alert Day, with heavy storms.
The storm could possibly be severe and is expected to develop mainly along and east of I-4 until around 8 and 9 p.m. tonight.
Channel 9 is closely monitoring a few storms near downtown Orlando for the Corporate 5K event, but the weather should improve after 7 p.m. in the metro area.
Additional heavy rain is forecasted for the Mother's Day weekend, particularly from Monday into early Tuesday next week.

Warm evening Saturday, rolls into Sunday with even warmer temps
It was a warm and mostly dry Saturday across the area, and even warmer temps are expected for Sunday. The drier air has been courtesy of Saharan dust, and this dust will stick around tonight. Just a few spotty showers are expected in the early evening, with morning lows in the mid-70s. The Saharan dust will linger into Sunday, again resulting in low rain chances and warm temperatures. Just a few widely scattered showers and storms are expected, with highs pushing into the mid-90s. Moisture quickly returns to start next week. This will bring higher chances of rain and storms returning to the area for Monday. Highs to start the week will be in the low 90s. Even higher rain and storm chances are likely for the middle part of next week, as more tropical moisture rushes back into the area. Temperatures for Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the low 90s. FORECAST: Hot and humid weekend

It's going to be a hot and mostly dry day overall with temperatures climbing near 90 degrees. Factor in the humidity and it feels more like the mid-90s! We'll keep the chance for a hit or miss storm in the forecast with the heating of the day. A storm complex moving in from the west could also impact our area tonight and bring a chance for a strong to severe storm. However, the risk is low as many models have this activity diving south of I-85. Overall, it's a low risk for storms today, but anything we do see could be strong to severe with damaging wind gusts our highest concern. It's a similar story on Sunday with high heat, humidity, and an isolated strong to severe storm with the heating of the day. Searing heat to continue in Central Florida over the weekend
The heat we have seen for the last few days will continue across central Florida. Our high temperatures will range from 91 to 94 across the region, with the highest temperatures in Lake and Marion counties. Our chances of rain have mostly dried up for now. One or two passing showers are possible, primarily along the coast this afternoon and evening. No severe storms are anticipated. Rain chances will slowly increase over the next few days and peak in the middle of the upcoming week. The tropics are quiet for now.
