Cricket, which made its only appearance in the Olympics at the Paris Games in 1900, was included in the Los Angeles Olympics after an IOC meeting in Mumbai in October 2023. It joins five new sports at LA28 – baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes) and squash.
Fairgrounds in Pomona, a temporary stadium in Southern California, has been selected as the venue for cricket at the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028, which will feature six teams each in the men's and women's competitions.
The T20 format, which is recognised as the vehicle for the growth of the game by the ICC, has also featured in other multi-sport events in recent years. The Asian Games in 2010, 2014 and 2023 featured both men's and women's T20 competitions while the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games staged a women's competition.

Reports have started to emerge that Gill is being seen as an heir for both Rohit, 38, and Suryakumar, 34, in white-ball cricket eventually. Or at least, the transition would unlikely be as smooth as the Test one, where Rohit retired before the squad for England was named, and when signs were obvious that he wouldn't be picked as captain. But there will be questions like, 'Why not Shreyas Iyer?', who's arguably the best batter in the side after Rohit and Kohli and has established himself as a shrewd white-ball leader with an IPL title and another final to his name. (AP) T20Is are more complicated. Here, Gill, who last played a 20-over match for India in 2024, isn't nearly as cemented. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma have solidified their spot as openers and Tilak Varma has been excellent at number three. Gill doesn't quite have a place here yet. How can, then, the team give him vice-captaincy and make him Surya's successor? (PTI) For that to happen, the team will have to remove Axar Patel from being Surya's deputy. The BCCI and Gill himself will need to compete with captaincy ambitions of Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Samson, among others, who are all in prime age and would feel they are readier and more deserving to be Surya's heir. Such situations generally bring friction. (PTI) The question that also needs asking here is, does one-man-all-format-captaincy even work? MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit all fulfilled that job but with contrasting results. Dhoni won an ICC title in each format, Kohli was the most successful in Tests but struggled in white-ball while Rohit was the opposite of Kohli. Asia Cup India squad selection: Team to be picked on August 19 in Mumbai

"Yes, the team for the Asia Cup will be picked on Aug 19 in Mumbai. The selection committee meeting will be followed by a press conference by chief selector, former India pacer Ajit Agarkar," a source in the BCCI said on Thursday. I really hope I could have helped Vece Paes get replica of his lost Olympic bronze medal
DR VECE Paes, a member of the 1972 Munich Olympic Games bronze-winning India's men's hockey team and father of legendary tennis player Leander Paes, passed away at the age of 80 on Thursday morning. I still cannot believe that he is no longer with us. It was him who supported me morally and helped me grow as a hockey player when I joined Kolkata's Mohun Bagan in 1969. He was senior to me but made every effort to make sure I gained confidence and polished my skills as well. More than a couple of years ago I met him when Mohun Bagan organised a function in Kolkata to felicitate him, Gurbux Singh and me. I received a call from Paes a few days before the function. He asked me to bring the Olympic bronze medal when I visit Kolkata and I was more than happy to do it. Paes had lost his medal and wanted to get a replica prepared, that's why he wanted that medal. My medal was with him for around four-five months but he could not find someone who could prepare the replica. He told me that he tried finding some good replica artists in Mumbai and Kolkata but failed. He passed away today and it's unfortunate that he did not have that bronze medal, his biggest sporting success, with him in his last moments. His son Leander also won an Olympic bronze in 1996 Atlanta Games and he was a proud father. I really hoped I could have helped him get a replica prepared. I still remember Leander accompanying him to Mohun Bagan ground during matches and practice sessions. At that time, he was not sure which sport he would choose. Sometimes he will play hockey with us and on some days he will bring bow and arrows. These days parents go to any length to make sure their children succeed as athletes but it was Paes and his wife Jennifer, also a former India basketball captain, who probably started that trend. They left no stone unturned to make Leander a successful tennis player.
