"Testament to PM Modi's educational reforms": Dharmendra Pradhan hails India's new high in QS World University Rankings
New Delhi [India], June 19 (ANI): With Indian Higher Educational Institutes (HEIs) witnessing an''unprecedented' five-fold rise in the QS global university rankings, with 54 institutions from the country featuring in the 2026 list, up from 11 in 2014, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday said that such a jump is a 'testament to the transformative educational reforms ushered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.'
The Union Minister underlined that India has the 'fastest growing education system' among the G20 countries, and the fourth most represented, only behind the United States, United Kingdom, and China.
'With a record 54 HEIs featuring among the global best, India hits a new high in the QS World University 2026 Rankings. From just 11 universities in 2014 to 54 in the latest rankings, this five-fold jump is a testament to the transformative educational reforms ushered by PM Narendra Modi govt. in the last decade. NEP 2020 is not just changing our educational landscape, it is revolutionising it,' Pradhan mentioned in a post on X.
Pradhan also added that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is not only changing the country's educational landscape but also revolutionising it.

'Matter of immense pride that India is also the fastest growing education system among G20 countries and the fourth most represented behind only the U.S. UK and China. Confident that with NEP's thrust on research, innovation and internationalisation, more Indian HEIs will scale global excellence in the times ahead,' the minister said in his post.
According to QS World University Rankings 2026, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has emerged as the country's top-ranked institution, securing the 123rd spot globally -- a jump of 27 places from last year's position of 150.
IIT Bombay and IIT Madras followed at 129th and 180th, respectively. Notably, IIT Madras entered the global top 200 for the first time.
The rankings, released by global higher education analysts QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), cover over 1,500 universities from 106 countries and territories. India is now the fourth most represented country, behind only the United States (192), the United Kingdom (90), and Mainland China (72).
'This year, India has added the most new universities to the QS rankings, with eight fresh entrants. It's a clear sign of a system evolving at both speed and scale,' said Jessica Turner, CEO of QS. 'India is rewriting the global higher education map.'
IIT Delhi performed strongly in several indicators, ranking 50th globally in Employer Reputation, 86th in Citations per Faculty, and 142nd in Academic Reputation. Five Indian universities are now among the global top 100 in Employer Reputation, including IIT Bombay and IIT Kanpur. (ANI)

TG seeks NOC from Jal Shakti Ministry and A.P. for utilisation of 1,500 tmc ft in Godavari and Krishna
The Telangana Government has sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Union Jal Shakti Ministry and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh allowing it to utilise 1,000 tmc ft of Godavari and 500 tmc ft of Krishna water. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil to ensure that the Central Government gives its consent for the NOC allowing Telangana to utilise 1,500 tmc ft water as it would suffice to realise the goal of irrigating 1.5 crore acres of land. 'We have no objection if the Centre examines the clearances for projects proposed by Andhra Pradesh after allocating 1,500 tmc ft water from the two rivers,' the Chief Minister told the Union Minister. He termed as inappropriate the Centre's attitude in responding speedily to the projects proposed by the neighbouring State and neglecting Telangana's projects. This would give scope for apprehensions between the two States that could in turn lead to problematic situations, he said, seeking the Union Minister's cooperation in according clearances to Palamuru-Rangareddy, Tummidihatti and Sammakka-Sarakka projects at the earliest. Funds for Musi project The Centre should consider granting funds for the Musi rejuvenation project proposed by the Telangana Government on the lines of similar projects taken up on Ganga and Yamuna rivers. Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, who briefed reporters after the meeting, said that the Jal Shakti Minister responded positively to the State's request. Mr. Patil told the Chief Minister and the Irrigation Minister that the Centre was yet to receive the detailed project report pertaining to the Godavari-Banakacharla project. The Union Minister also assured the State delegation that he would take the initiative in convening the meeting of the Apex Council headed by him and comprising the Chief Ministers of the two Telugu States as members soon.

India to begin evacuating citizens wishing to leave Israel
New Delhi: India announced on Thursday that it will begin evacuating Indian nationals who want to leave Israel in view of the clashes with Iran, with arrangements being made for them to leave via land borders because of airspace restrictions. The evacuation of Indians from Israel will be done under Operation Sindhu, initially launched by the Indian government on Wednesday for getting Indian citizens in Iran to safety. 'In view of the recent developments between Israel and Iran, the Government of India has decided to evacuate from Israel those Indian nationals who wish to leave,' the external affairs ministry said in a statement. 'Their travel from Israel to India will be facilitated through the land borders and thereafter by air to India,' the statement added. This is being done in view of airspace restrictions over Israel since the clashes with Iran erupted over the past weekend. The Indian embassy in Tel Aviv will be responsible for arrangements for evacuating the Indians. All Indian nationals in Israel were requested to register with the embassy in Tel Aviv. The embassy has also set up a 24x7 control room to assist the Indians. The Indian embassy reiterated its earlier advisories urging Indian citizens in Israel to remain vigilant and strictly follow safety guidelines issued by Israeli authorities and the Home Front Command. The number of Indians in Israel has swelled to more than 32,000 in recent months as Israeli authorities stepped up the recruitment of blue collar workers, primarily for the construction sector, to replace Palestinian labour. Indian workers, including care-givers and professionals, are spread across Israel. The Indian government accords the highest priority to the safety and security of Indian nationals and will continue monitoring the situation closely. 'The embassy remains continuously in touch with the community with a view to extending all feasible assistance,' the statement said. There have been no reports so far of casualties among the Indian nationals in Israel. A few Indian students in Tehran were injured earlier this week when an Israeli air strike hit a students dormitory. Hostilities between Israel and Iran continued for the seventh day, with Iranian missiles hitting four sites in central and southern Israel, including Soroka hospital, while Israeli forces attacked Iran's Arak heavy water reactor. Iran launched some 20 ballistic missiles at Israel on Thursday. Israeli defence minister Israel Katz has said that 'eliminating' Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is one of his country's objectives.
