Fyfe ‘greatest Docker ever', says Freo coach
A dual Brownlow Medallist, three-time All-Australian and three-time Doig Medallist, Fyfe has already established himself as among the most decorated players in club history.
While fellow former captain Matthew Pavlich can also claim honours as the best to don the purple jumper, Longmuir joked his ex-teammate's new appointment as Sydney chief executive makes the call an easy one to make.
'I don't really like getting caught up in these things too much but I'll definitely say Fyfey is the greatest Docker ever, especially now Pav is in enemy colours,' Longmuir told 7NEWS.
Fyfe will hang up the boots at the conclusion of the club's 2025 campaign, whether it ends in a fortnight or beyond, with his dream of securing an elusive premiership not over yet.
The Dockers are on the verge of playing finals with two weeks remaining in the home and away season but face tough clashes against reigning premiers Brisbane and the Western Bulldogs in Melbourne to qualify.
Fremantle will host the Lions in a blockbuster at Optus Stadium on Friday night, in what could be Fyfe's final game in front of the Dockers faithful.
Longmuir said it was 'hard to quantify' if Fyfe's announcement would have an impact on the players' ahead of the crunch match but conceded there 'wasn't a dry eye' in the house as the former captain informed teammates of his decision on Monday.
'He's got great respect among the football department and players. I'm sure we'll do all we can to send him out on the right note,' he said.
The 33-year-old returned to the side as the substitute against Port Adelaide on Saturday, swapping his jumper with retiring Power veteran Travis Boak.

Fremantle big man Josh Treacy summed up his side's performance with a nightmare moment in Friday night's loss to Brisbane. In a high-stakes clash, the reigning premiers flexed their muscle with a brilliant victory as the shellshocked Dockers had no answers. The Lions kicked the only three goals of the first term and then put the foot down with a dominant third quarter to silence the Optus Stadium crowd. Treacy had earlier kicked two goals, but threw away a certain third with a monumental blunder. After taking a strong mark at the top of the goalsquare, Treacy turned around and played on with the goals at his mercy. But he took a fraction too long to get the kick away and that gave veteran Lion Ryan Lester just enough time to disrupt the attempt. 'Oh no! A calamity, a disaster,' commentator Anthony Hudson said. Garry Lyon added: 'It's a Nick Riewoldt moment,' in reference to the famous incident from the 2010 grand final replay. The Dockers were trailing by 32 points at the time and needed a spark in the shadows of three-quarter time. Rising Star contender Murphy Reid did provide that with a long-range goal, but the Lions had the immediate reply through Cam Rayner. Hugh McCluggage nailed the first of the final term as the Lions cruised towards the crucial victory.
