Uttar Pradesh seeks green hydrogen, clean energy collaborations with Japan

A delegation from the Uttar Pradesh government is in Japan to explore opportunities for collaboration, technology transfer and investment in green hydrogen and renewable energy. The visit is part of the state's broader efforts to strengthen its clean energy initiatives and attract global partnerships in the sector. The delegation is led by Awanish Awasthi, Advisor to the Chief Minister and includes Vijay Kiran Anand, CEO of Invest UP and Inderjit Singh, Director of the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), as per the official statement. Their engagements are aimed at positioning Uttar Pradesh as a key player in clean energy innovation and development. A major focus of the visit was a detailed interaction on the Toyota Mirai, a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle that emits only water by converting hydrogen and oxygen into electricity. The vehicle was highlighted as an example of the kind of sustainable mobility solutions the state is interested in promoting. The Uttar Pradesh team is exploring potential partnerships for green hydrogen production and the establishment of Centres of Excellence to support innovation in sustainable energy and mobility. During the visit, the delegation toured the University of Yamanashi's Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Nanomaterials Center, known for its research in advanced fuel cell technologies. UPNEDA Director Inderjit Singh expressed interest in expanding collaboration with international institutions to enhance the state's capacity for clean energy production. Areas of focus include solar energy, small-scale hydropower and biomass-based electricity. The delegation is also seeking technology transfers that could enable domestic production of affordable renewable energy. These efforts align with the state's long-term goals to support India's clean energy transition and climate commitments. The team also visited several advanced facilities, including the NESRAD Green Hydrogen Plant, the Suntory Hakushu Distillery—which utilizes Power-to-Gas (P2G) technology—and the Hydrogen Research Centre in Yamanashi. These visits are expected to provide insights into global best practices that could be implemented in Uttar Pradesh. The initiative reflects Uttar Pradesh's ongoing commitment to sustainability, clean energy innovation and international cooperation.

‘Baron of Westarctica' opened cos in leading Indian businessmen's names?

1 2 Ghaziabad: A city court on Monday granted police five days' remand of Harshvardhan Jain, who ran a fake embassy from a Kavi Nagar bungalow that claimed to represent unrecognised 'micronations' like Westarctica, Ladonia and Seborga till he was arrested last week by UP's special task force (STF). The 49-year-old Harshvardhan Jain also drove around in cars with fake diplomatic blue number plates that had 'Honorary Consul Baron Westarctica' and 'Honorary Consigliere Principato Di Seborga' engraved on them. The STF believes the embassy, which was in operation for nine years, was a facade for a suspected hawala business that Jain ran using shell companies and had sought his custody to interrogate him. Jain was arrested by STF on July 23 from the rented two-storey Kavinagar bungalow. Talking to TOI, assistant prosecution officer Uttam Tripathy said had obtained a list of 25 companies from various diaries of Jain, which need to be verified. He cited the STF FIR to argue that Jain floated companies in the name of Dhirubhai Ambani, (Gautam) Adani and Mittal (which one was not specified), and the police recovered seals and stamps of those companies from him. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Passive Income Ideas Sitting at Home Mone Undo "We wanted his remand to take him to Delhi and Gujarat to verify details of the companies," he said. STF recovered two passports and two PAN cards from Jain. Tripathy said one passport was Indian and the other issued by 'Samoga'. "When we contacted the protocol division of ministry of external affairs, we were told that no country by the name of Samoga exists," he said, adding both passports were signed by one Pushpa Ranjan. "We found that there is a genuine person by that name in the passport division of MEA. The Indian passport is genuine, so it calls for proper investigation as to how the seal and signature of the same person were found in a passport issued by a non-existent country," Tripathy said. As for the PAN cards, one was issued in the name of Harshvardhan Jain and the other in the name of HV Jain. Tripathy told the court that to verify how two applications were placed for the issuance of a PAN card by the same person, they needed to find out links that Jain used. Jain was a frequent flier to the UK and Dubai. He was known to controversial astrologer Chandraswami. Raj Kumar Mishra, SP of Noida STF, said there are many dots in the line to connect. "We are preparing a list of questions for Jain," he said. "STF has also found 22 bank accounts in the name of Jain, 12 of which are in India."

Japan to set up green hydrogen production centre in UP

Lucknow: In a move that will provide a major push to the state govt's initiatives to boost production and use of renewable energy, Japanese entrepreneurs have announced they will set up a Centre of Excellence for green hydrogen in Uttar Pradesh. The discussion was initiated by a high-level delegation of the UP govt, which was in Japan recently. "The delegation held discussions on cutting-edge technologies, including the next-generation hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, the Toyota Mirai, which runs by combining hydrogen and oxygen, emitting only water as a byproduct. This aligns perfectly with UP's vision for a zero-emission transport policy," a govt spokesperson said. The team also held discussions with govt representatives and private entrepreneurs on potential collaborations to promote green hydrogen production and energy innovation. A senior official said: "Partnerships with global institutions were necessary to boost renewable energy generation in the state, especially through solar, hydro, and biomass-based power solutions." The delegation visited several facilities in Japan's Yamanashi Prefecture, including the NESRAD Green Hydrogen Plant, the Suntory Hakushu Distillery, which is home to a power-to-gas technology plant and a Hydrogen Research Centre.
