CM Rekha Gupta joins 'Kude Se Azadi' campaign in Delhi's Sanjay Basti

Ms. Gupta, who was accompanied by the local MLA Surya Prakash Khatri, said public representatives across Delhi are working closely with resident welfare associations, NGOs and religious organisations to ensure cleanliness in their respective areas.
"This morning, I came across a video of a young boy cleaning a bus stand in Delhi. It was heartening to see such awareness. If every citizen begins to consider Delhi's cleanliness as their own responsibility, no one can stop the city from becoming truly clean," the Chief Minister said.
She also inspected J.J. Colony, reviewed the condition of DDA flats in the area and interacted with residents.
She said directions have been issued to the departments concerned regarding the necessary development work to be carried out in a timely manner.
The month-long 'Kude Se Azadi' campaign was launched on August 1 and is being run across the national capital to promote community participation for improving sanitation and waste management in the city.

New Delhi: Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Thursday said the "Faansi Ghar" (gallows) installed in the Assembly complex in 2022 was historically inaccurate and ordered its removal. The decision follows a review of archival records and consultations with historians, which found no evidence of gallows ever existing on the premises. The structure was built by the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in August 2022, coinciding with the Quit India Movement anniversary. At the time it was claimed to be a historical site linked to freedom fighters. However, Gupta said authenticated documents from the National Archives of India, the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), Delhi University, JNU, and other institutions confirmed no such gallows existed. The Speaker noted that the Opposition (AAP) was given three days to provide evidence supporting the structure's historical basis but failed to do so. He termed the installation a "deliberate misrepresentation" and announced the following steps: 1. The Assembly building will be restored to its original heritage design. 2. Historical maps from 1912 will be displayed in the disputed rooms to prevent future misinformation. 3. The foundation stone plaque, bearing names of then-Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, will be removed. Gupta also referred the matter to the Privileges Committee, summoning Kejriwal, then-Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, Sisodia, and then-Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla for questioning. AAP govt did not create assets, focussed on advertisement: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta
New Delhi, Aug 7 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday accused the previous AAP dispensation of using free water and electricity as political tools, and claimed that they spent money on advertisements rather than on the creation of assets for the city while in power. Speaking in the Delhi Assembly on a CAG report tabled in the House on Monday, she claimed the report had completely exposed the AAP dispensation. The revenue surplus of the Delhi government in 2023-24 under the AAP's rule declined by 55 per cent as compared to the preceding fiscal, said the CAG report tabled in the Assembly by Chief Minister Gupta on Monday during the Monsoon session. She demanded that the CAG reports on Finance Accounts and Appropriation Accounts of Delhi for the year 2023-24 be referred to the Public Accounts Committee. 'You (AAP) cheated Delhi. You did not create roads, did not build sewer lines or schools and hospitals. You spent too much on advertisements," Gupta charged. As AAP MLAs opposed the chief minister's claims, four opposition party legislators — Anil Jha, Kuldeep Kumar, Prem Chauhan and Jarnail Singh — were marshalled out. Gupta claimed the AAP, while in power, gave freebies to people and portrayed it as if 'they were spending it from their own pocket". 'They claim that the Centre did not give funds. But they never used the funds given by the Centre under various schemes," she alleged. The report pointed out that although the revenue receipts of the government dropped, the gross state domestic product (GSDP) at current prices grew at an average pace of 8.79 per cent during the last five years from Rs 7.93 lakh crore in 2019-20 to Rs 11.08 lakh crore in 2023-24. Phansi ghar row: Delhi Assembly speaker directs inquiry, Kejriwal to be summoned
Asserting that there was no 'phansi ghar' on Delhi Assembly premises, its Speaker Vijender Gupta said on Thursday that the matter will be referred to the Privileges Committee for inquiry that will summon former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with others. The British-era "Phansi Ghar" at the Delhi Assembly premises, in New Delhi, Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025. (PTI) Gupta had earlier told the House that the structure, which was renovated and inaugurated in 2022 by then chief minister Kejriwal as a "phansi ghar" (execution room), was actually a "tiffin room" as per records. Displaying a 1912 map of the assembly complex, he had said on Wednesday that there was no documentation or evidence indicating that the space was used for executions. Giving directions on the matter on Thursday, Gupta said he has referred the matter for inquiry to the Privileges Committee. "The committee will summon former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia, the then Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel," he said. He reiterated his allegation that "falsehood" was spread in the name of Phansi Ghar and history was distorted. "The plaque bearing Kejriwal's name outside Phansi Ghar will be removed. The 1912 map depicting it as tiffin room will also be displayed," he said in the House.
