Cost excellence critical to driving industrial resilience in UAE

United Arab Emirates – As the UAE accelerates its industrial diversification under Operation 300bn, global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has released a new whitepaper urging industrial companies to place cost excellence at the heart of their operating model. With growing investment in manufacturing, materials, and downstream processing, the UAE's industrial base is poised for long-term growth. It will also play a key role in delivering national diversification and sustainability targets. However, according to A&M, rapid growth must be matched with disciplined financial planning, transparency, and cost ownership at every level of the organization. The firm notes that adopting structured financial frameworks can help companies seize emerging opportunities and ensure operational excellence as the sector matures. The UAE has already laid strong foundations. Strategic initiatives such as the Make it in the Emirates campaign and the In-Country Value (ICV) program have created a dynamic, investor-friendly environment. With activity accelerating across advanced manufacturing, metals, and energy-linked industries, industrial development is becoming a catalyst for wider economic transformation. 'The UAE's industrial sector is central to the country's economic diversification strategy,' said Alexander Shvets, Managing Director, Infrastructure & Capital Projects - Metals & Mining, Alvarez & Marsal Middle East. 'Building on this momentum with embedded cost visibility and performance tracking will help operators achieve global competitiveness and long-term value creation.' Renat Akimbitov, Managing Director, Infrastructure & Capital Projects – Metals and Mining, Alvarez & Marsal Middle East, added: 'Cost control is not just a finance function - it's an operational discipline. In capital-intensive industries, real-time cost visibility and team capability are what turn strategy into measurable results.' Global Best Practices for Financial Resilience In its latest Middle East report, Optimizing Cost Control in the Industrial Sector, A&M outlines a proactive four-part strategy for mining and industrial companies to strengthen financial resilience: Activity-Based Budgeting: Tying budgets directly to operational drivers for greater accuracy and agility. Real-Time Cost Visibility Platforms: Empowering leaders with digital dashboards to manage costs dynamically. Structured Cost Review Meetings: Ensuring accountability through regular performance tracking. Cost Capability Building: Equipping teams with practical tools and training to foster a cost-conscious culture. The A&M report notes how companies in the region may achieve significant improvements by employing the strategy, including substantive reductions in operating costs and widespread adoption of cost insights in decision-making processes. From Extraction to Industrial Empowerment The UAE's industrial vision extends beyond raw material sourcing. Investments in downstream infrastructure - including smelting, refining, and manufacturing facilities - are reducing import dependency and strengthening industrial self-sufficiency. Meanwhile, mega-projects in logistics, energy, and infrastructure are driving unprecedented demand for cost-efficient, locally produced materials. At the same time, the industry is evolving. Global stakeholders increasingly expect mining operations to demonstrate a capacity to focus on cost discipline and a reliance on local resources, combined with data-led innovation. According to A&M, this presents an opportunity to create a forward-looking, globally respected industry. flynas leads Arab airlines in reducing carbon emissions

Post Views: 34 flynas ranked first among Arab airlines in reducing carbon dioxide emissions in 2024, according to the annual 'Cirium Flight Emissions Review', the trusted benchmark for flight emissions calculations for the global aviation sector. The report, issued by Cirium, the world's most trusted source of aviation analytics, ranked flynas 14th on the global list of the top 100 airlines in reducing emissions worldwide, highlighting the effectiveness of flynas' sustainability policies. flynas achieved the leading position in CO2 efficiency in the Arab world. The leading LCC joined the list of the top 15 performers globally, with its CO2 emissions reaching 61.5 grams per ASK (Available Seat kilometers) on its flights in 2024, representing a 1.6 percent decrease compared to 2023 levels, according to the report. The report indicated that flynas' total CO2 emissions amounted to 1.5 million tons in 2024, the lowest total among the top 15 companies on the global list. flynas achieved a reduction in emissions despite a 25.2% increase in flights during the year, the second-largest increase in the number of flights among the top 15 performers on the global list, according to the report. The common factors among the efficiency-leading airlines are investing in fleet renewal, maximizing seat density where market allows, and optimizing operations, according to the report. Last month, flynas took delivery of the 5th new A320neo aircraft since the beginning of the year, raising the share of this next-generation model to 58 planes in flynas' all-Airbus fleet, which currently consists of 64 aircraft. Last July, flynas signed an agreement with Airbus to purchase 160 new aircraft, including 30 A330neo wide-body aircraft and 130 single-aisle aircraft, bringing the volume of its aircraft orders to 280 aircraft within seven years, making it one of the largest aircraft purchase orders in the region, in order to keep pace with the aviation sector growth in the Kingdom with the support of the Saudi Vision 2030 programs. Boosting the A320neo aircraft share in flynas' fleet reinforces the leading LCC's commitment to sustainability and environmental protection, as the A320neo is considered the most advanced, environmentally friendly, and most fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft worldwide. The Airbus A320neo combines cutting-edge technology, environmental efficiency, and a high level of comfort. It is equipped with next-generation engines and enhanced aerodynamics, which reduce fuel consumption by 20% and significantly decrease its carbon footprint. Additionally, the noise level of this aircraft is much lower compared to previous models. Passengers onboard the aircraft will benefit from the widest cabin of any single-aisle aircraft and the latest generation in-flight entertainment system. Sustainability occupies a pivotal position in flynas' strategic plan for growth and expansion, launched under the title 'We Connect the World to the Kingdom', in parallel with the objectives of the National Civil Aviation Strategy to enable national air carriers to contribute to connecting KSA with 250 International destinations and to accommodate 330 million passengers and to host 150 million tourists yearly by 2030 and the objectives of the Pilgrims Experience Program (PEP) to facilitate access to the Two Holy Mosques. flynas, the leading low-cost airline in the world and the best LCC in the Middle East, and the first airline listed on the Saudi Exchange (Tadawul) operates 139 routes to more than 70 domestic and international destinations in 30 countries with more than 2000 weekly flights and has flown more than 80 million passengers since its launch in 2007, with the aim to reach 165 domestic and international destinations within its growth and expansion plan, and in line with the objectives of Vision 2030.

Crypto scams are evolving; Here's how Binance is helping users stay safe

As cryptocurrency adoption grows rapidly across Ethiopia and the African continent, it is more important than ever for users to only trust official Binance ( channels for information, updates, and support. Scammers are using increasingly sophisticated methods, including AI-driven deepfakes and fake websites, to mislead users. Binance encourages its community to stay informed, secure, and vigilant by following essential safety practices. 'Staying safe in the world of cryptocurrency requires vigilance, education, and common sense,' says Samukele Mkhize, Binance's Africa Compliance/MLRO. 'By understanding how scams work and using trusted tools and official channels, Ethiopian and African users can enjoy crypto securely and confidently.' Important Tips to Protect Yourself on Binance Be Cautious of Unsolicited Messages One of the biggest red flags is receiving unsolicited messages from someone claiming to be from a cryptocurrency platform like Binance. No legitimate company will ever contact you directly to ask for money, personal details, or investment advice. Binance will never call you to request funds or account details. Always be sceptical of unsolicited offers, especially those that come with pressure to act quickly. Use Only Official Binance Channels Before making any financial decisions or taking action, double-check the information through official channels. For users in Ethiopia and Africa, that means relying on: The official website: The verified Binance app via Google Play or App Store Binance's official social media profiles and local Telegram communities Binance Academy for educational content: Avoid third-party websites such as: (Ethiopia), (Ghana) These sites are not affiliated with Binance and should not be trusted. Always ensure you're using crypto services that comply with local laws and regulations. Binance works closely with regulators to promote safe, legal access to digital assets. Avoid unlicensed platforms that may put your money, and personal data, at risk. Educate Yourself on Cryptocurrency A big part of staying safe is having a basic understanding of how cryptocurrencies and exchanges like Binance work. The more educated you are about the crypto world, the less likely you are to fall victim to scams. Binance Academy offers resources that explain the fundamentals of digital assets, blockchain technology, and safe trading practices. Trust Your Instincts If something feels off, it probably is. Scammers often create a sense of urgency, pushing you to make fast decisions or share personal information. A legitimate company will never rush you into making a financial decision. Take your time, ask questions, and don't be afraid to step back and evaluate the situation. Use Strong Security Measures Ensure that your crypto accounts are protected by strong passwords and two-factor authentication (2FA). This adds an extra layer of protection to your accounts, helping to keep your assets secure. Never share your private keys, passwords, or login information with anyone. Be Aware of Deepfakes and AI-Generated Content Scammers are increasingly using AI and deepfake technology to impersonate people, including executives from companies like Binance. These deep fakes can be very convincing, but remember that no real company representative will ask you to send money or invest in a project through video calls or social media DMs. Understand the Role of Crypto Platforms It's important to know that cryptocurrency platforms like Binance are tools for buying, selling, and managing digital assets. These platforms provide access to the crypto space, but they are not financial advisors. They don't offer investment advice or guarantee returns. If anyone claiming to be from a crypto platform offers investment advice or asks for money, it's likely a scam. Report Suspicious Activity See something off? Report it immediately through Binance Support ( and alert local law enforcement if needed. Keep Your Personal Information Private Finally, always be mindful of the information you share online. Scammers often target individuals who share excessive personal information or are overly trusting online. Be especially careful with your online presence, especially on social media. Binance is committed to working with African regulators to promote safe, compliant crypto access. Always avoid unlicensed services that could expose you to unnecessary legal or financial risks.
