When Shah Rukh Khan Shot 36 Hours "Straight" For Circus

New Delhi:
There are actors and then there is Shah Rukh Khan. There is a reason why fans call him 'King Khan'. Agree? SRK is known for his craft, discipline and dedication.
Now, SRK's Circus co-star Renuka Shahane has shared her two cents. She recalled the time when Shah Rukh Khan worked for 36 hours straight for the TV show.
Circus aired between 1989 and 1990 on DD National. It featured Ashutosh Gowariker and Sameer Khakhar.
Directed by Aziz Mirza and Kundan Shah, the series revolved around the lives of a circus troupe.
During a conversation with Filmfare, Renuka Shahane said, 'His [Shah Rukh Khan's] attitude toward work is like that. I've seen him work for 36 hours straight. We had two units on Circus — one managed by Kundan and the other by Aziz — and SRK was in practically every frame of the show. So, I have seen him shooting for 36 hours at a stretch. Yet, not a single wrinkle appeared on his face. He never complained about anything either.'
The actress also shared a wonderful piece of advice that Shah Rukh Khan once gave her.
She said, 'My character, Maria, had a fear of heights, and so did I in real life. Hence, I was really scared while doing some of my scenes, particularly the ones featuring me getting on the trapeze. We all belong to the same age group, and, at that time, Shah Rukh wasn't a film star. He was already a television star, though. So, after pack-up, we all used to discuss things.'
'I was really scared, especially because I had to shoot with Kundan. Then, Shah Rukh [Khan] came up to me and said, 'Listen, you are an actor. If the director tells you this is a well and asks you to jump, you jump. You shouldn't think about your fear of heights and all,'' Renuka Shahane added.
Apart from Circus, Shah Rukh Khan has appeared in various TV shows like Fauji, Doosra Keval, Mahan Kar z and Idiot.
The superstar will be next seen in Sujay Ghosh's King. The film will also feature SRK's daughter, Suhana Khan.

‘Shah Rukh Khan and I hit it off immediately': Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos on his equation with the Bollywood star

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos opened up about his friendship with Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan. In an interview with Nikhil Kamath, Ted talked about how Shah Rukh was one of the first celebrities he met as soon as he came to India before the release of the OTT platform's first Indian series, Sacred Games, in 2018. (Also Read: Ed Sheeran drops new song Sapphire with desi beats, Arijit Singh vocals. All Shah Rukh Khan fans care about is his cameo) Ted was asked to name an Indian celebrity who's his 'favourite' and he said that he shares a good equation with Shah Rukh. He recollected, 'Early in coming to India, I met Shah Rukh Khan right away. He hosted a very nice dinner for me, and we hit it off immediately. I've come back since, with my wife, and we've had nice times together. We visited each other in Los Angeles when his son was in school. So, having dinner with Shah Rukh Khan in India is much different than having dinner with him in Los Angeles.' Shah Rukh's son Aryan Khan's The Ba***ds of Bollywood will soon drop on Netflix. In the same interview, Ted mentioned that he was also bowled over by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his 2024 show Heeramandi, which he says felt like a 'dare'. He said, 'Doing Heeramandi was probably one of the most creatively interesting projects I've ever worked on in India. He (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) came in with his very big vision, almost like it was a dare. I dare you to make this, it's so big. And remember, he's a cinema legend. So, the idea that he was gonna make a TV show is almost unheard of. I think he came for us to say no. And when we said yes, it was a complicated production.' Shah Rukh was last seen in the 2023 films Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki. He is now shooting for King, with director Siddharth Anand, his daughter Suhana Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan as his co-stars.

Throwback: When Shah Rukh Khan clarified Bauua Singh is nothing like Kamal Haasan's Appu Raja: This film is not about…

(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) In a throwback to the time leading up to the release of Zero (2018), Shah Rukh Khan addressed growing comparisons between his character Bauua Singh and Kamal Haasan 's iconic role in 'Appu Raja' (1989). Earlier, responding to speculation after Zero's teaser launch, SRK categorically denied any similarities between the two characters, insisting that the story of Zero goes far beyond physical stature. 'It's About Incompleteness, Not Height' As reported by Peeping Moon when asked whether Bauua Singh shared any traits with Appu Raja, Shah Rukh Khan responded firmly: 'Not at all. This film is not about a vertically-challenged person. It's about incompleteness.' He clarified that while Bauua Singh happens to be short in stature, Zero is a film that delves into human flaws, emotional vulnerabilities, and how individuals find joy in spite of them. He added that the film sought to break stereotypes, especially the outdated idea that people with disabilities or differences are relegated to circus-like settings in narratives. 'One of the other things that we didn't want to have is that it's a given that if you're vertically challenged, you would be in a circus. We didn't want that in the film,' he stated. After intolerance remark, SRK plays it safe this time! SRK Praises Kamal Haasan's Vision Despite dismissing comparisons, Shah Rukh was full of praise for Kamal Haasan and Appu Raja. 'Appu Raja was fantastic. Full marks to Kamal sir to even attempt it. Only he, with his weird, intelligent way of thinking, can do it,' SRK said, acknowledging the boldness of the 1989 film and its lasting impact. He stressed that Zero aimed to shatter the myth that physical or emotional 'incompleteness' leads to negativity. 'You can celebrate life in spite of being incomplete. So, it's not about the height,' he concluded. On the work front, Kamal Haasan recently starred in 'Thug Life' which is directed by Mani Ratnam. Unfortunately the film is getting mixed reviews.
