Anwar urges Malaysians to judge govt and its policies on facts, not ‘hatred or sentiment'
Bernama reported him saying that although the government has implemented various initiatives, there are still parties spreading inaccurate information — such as claims that fuel and goods prices are rising — when, in fact, the opposite is true.
'This is a free, democratic country, but we must offer clarification. During an interview (at the gathering in Dataran Merdeka), for instance, there were questions about fuel prices going up, when in reality they have gone down. There are many such falsehoods.
'This shows that it's all just political sentiment and hatred, not based on facts. So, we suggest that the people evaluate based on facts. If there are shortcomings, we're open to improvement,' he told reporters after attending the Organisational Strengthening Seminar and PKR Federal Territories President's Tour here today.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, acknowledged that government initiatives may not be perfect, but said the administration is constantly looking for ways to address any issues that arise.
'I'm not claiming that everything we do is perfect, but we always listen and adjust where needed,' he said.
Earlier, Anwar arrived at the closed-door event at around 12.30pm, where he delivered the President's address and met with PKR members in attendance.
Meanwhile, Anwar said he is open to the opposition tabling a motion of no confidence against his leadership as Prime Minister in the Dewan Rakyat.
The PKR president and Pakatan Harapan chairman also described the move as a legitimate part of the democratic process.
'We're open to it — this is the proper process. If they want to table it (the motion), go ahead. He (Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin) has been saying he wants to do it for three years now,' he said.
He was responding to remarks made by Hamzah, who is also the Opposition Leader, during a rally at Dataran Merdeka yesterday. Hamzah had claimed that the opposition is currently considering submitting the motion to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul in the near future.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is enhancing strategic cooperation with the Thai government to facilitate smoother movement of goods through northern border checkpoints, says Liew Chin Tong. The Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister said the collaboration aims to support industries such as Kedah Rubber City (KRC), which require efficient logistics to meet export demands. 'MITI remains committed to strengthening strategic cooperation with the Thai government to facilitate the movement of goods across border checkpoints, including through the Durian Burung entry point,' he told the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (July 28). Responding to a question from Nurul Amin Hamid (Perikatan–Padang Terap), Liew said the initiative involves close coordination with various ministries and agencies, including the Finance and Home Ministries, Immigration Department, Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKSEM), and the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA). However, Liew said infrastructure at the ICQS Durian Burung Complex remains insufficient to support large-scale trade, particularly for container-based operations. To address this, he said the NCIA is spearheading several initiatives, including a feasibility study for a proposed Border Economic Zone to explore economic potential in the Durian Burung area and surrounding regions. He said other efforts include cooperation under the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) and the Joint Development Strategy (JDS), which focus on sectors such as halal, logistics, rubber, and tourism. 'The JDS specifically aims to enhance connectivity and trade policy coordination, which in turn strengthens the synergy between both countries,' he said. Liew added that both sides had agreed to improve trade facilitation, including infrastructure upgrades, logistics systems, and streamlined procedures at key border crossings. 'These measures are expected to expedite customs clearance and reduce costs and turnaround time for cross-border goods movement,' he said. While acknowledging proposals to utilise Thailand's Songkhla Port as an alternative export route, Liew said the government is prioritising domestic ports such as Penang and Kuala Perlis. 'This aligns with our broader strategy to enhance the competitiveness of local ports and ensure the economic benefits reach local communities and industry players,' he said. He added that his ministry is open to studying proposals and making recommendations to the Finance Ministry to introduce incentives that would encourage higher usage of local ports by investors, particularly those setting up export-oriented manufacturing facilities.

KUALA LUMPUR: Efficient energy use in government buildings can significantly lower utility costs and support Malaysia's sustainable energy transition, according to the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA). The ministry highlighted this during a recent seminar aimed at promoting energy-saving practices among civil servants. The seminar, part of the Malaysia Energy Literacy Programme (MELP), focused on no-cost energy efficiency measures outlined in a directive issued by the Chief Secretary to the Government last April. Deputy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir noted that government buildings, including offices, schools, and hospitals, are major energy consumers, with monthly electricity bills reaching RM260 million. 'Implementing no-cost energy efficiency measures could save the government three to five per cent in utility costs,' he said. Simple steps like setting air conditioning to at least 24°C and switching off unused lights and appliances were emphasised as effective, low-effort solutions. The former Sabah chief minister said in a Facebook post that GRS had made a conscious decision not to contest the election alone but instead align with national political forces, rejecting what he described as the 'Sarawak formula' of distancing from federal parties. 'GRS has ultimately rejected going solo and opted to align with national parties. Undoubtedly, they have their own reasons, and the people will be the judge,' he said. Salleh noted that GRS' decision to cooperate with PH likely reflects a strategic desire to maintain close ties with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration. 'Let us give them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they want to work with the Prime Minister's party, which is PH, and to ensure strong ties with the federal government.
