‘Mane Manege police' initiative to be launched in Karnataka's Mysuru dist.
Superintendent of Mysuru district police N. Vishnuvardhan and Additional Superintendents of Police C. Mallik and L. Nagesh provided the necessary guidance and directions to all the Deputy Superintendents of Police, Inspectors of Police and other staff gathered at the District Armed Reserve (DAR) parade grounds in Jyothinagar in the city on Saturday.
'Mane Manege police', which translates as 'police to every home',has been launched across the State with a view to not only maintain peace and order in the society and prevent crime, but also to create a fearless environment and ensure public protection and safety.
The aim of 'Mane Manege police', which has already been inaugurated by Home Minister G. Parameshwara in Bengaluru, is to strengthen community policing and transform the existing police system into a public-friendly and proactive force.
Conceptualised by Director General of Police M.A. Saleem, 'Mane Manege police'envisages beat police to visit houses, interact with people, and help resolve the problems and issues faced by them.
During the meeting held at DAR parade grounds, senior police officials trained the police force on effective implementation of the initiative in the district in the coming days.
A statement issued by the office of Mysuru district Superintendent of Police has sought public cooperation in the implementation of the programme. 'The police department requests the public to extend their cooperation,' the statement said, while sharing information about the programme for public awareness.

T.N. DGP Shankar Jiwal lauds Government Railway Police for ensuring quick trial in sexual assault case
The Director General of Police Shankar Jiwal on Tuesday appreciated the police team that ensured the speedy trial and conviction of the lone accused in sexual assault on a pregnant woman while she was travelling in an express train. On February 6, a pregnant woman was travelling alone in the women's compartment of Coimbatore–Tirupati Intercity Express. During the journey, the victim was sexually assaulted and pushed out of the moving train near Jolarpet by the accused, Hemaraj, a 27-year-old from Vellore district. Police said, on February 7, a case was registered at Jolarpet Railway Police Station and the accused was arrested by Government Railway Police (GRP) on the same day. Subsequently, he was detained under the Goondas Act. An investigation was carried out and a charge sheet was filed within 47 days before the District Sessions Court in Tirupathur. The case was taken up for trial on May 2 as the police and the prosecution took steps to expedite the trial process as per law. The accused was found guilty on July 11 by the court. He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment till death on July 14, said police. In recognition of the dedicated efforts resulting in the life conviction of the accused within five months, Mr. Jiwal appreciated and rewarded the Investigation Officer and the team on Tuesday at the police headquarters.
