No high-speed UK ferries as DFDS Seaways announces winter schedules for Jersey routes
Jersey will go without a high-speed ferry service to the UK this winter, as their ferry provider reveals their schedule for the period. DFDS Seaways has confirmed travel is now available to book on the Portsmouth and St Malo routes up to Saturday 10 January. However, it is temporarily pausing its high-speed Poole sailings with Levante Jet between November and the end of April. The ferry provider says that the Tarifa Jet, which usually covers the Jersey-St Malo route, will go to dry-dock in November. It means the Levante Jet will be used to cover that service in the meantime. Chris Parker, Jersey Route Director, apologised for the timetable, but added that capacity is "well above the historical demand for these services over the winter". He explains: "Our winter timetable is designed to meet demand while delivering a dependable service for islanders. "Between November and March, we will be offering capacity for up to 77,000 passengers to travel between Jersey and the UK, and up to 134,000 passengers between Jersey and France. "We understand that this decision will impact islanders and disappoint some travellers, and we are sorry about the inconvenience this will cause. "We are focusing on delivering a long-term sustainable service for Jersey, including investment in future tonnage for the island." There are 118 scheduled departures between Jersey and the UK and 88 for the Jersey-St Malo route. Freight services will also continue via the Caesarea Trader, with 110 crossings planned. DFDS says that schedules from Sunday 11 January onwards are still being finalised. However, they expect to offer around 850 crossings between April and August across all three routes.
