Sarawak Premier attends Chief Ministers' meeting, holds private talks with PM
PUTRAJAYA (July 14): Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was at the Perdana Putra Complex today to attend the 146th Chief Ministers and Menteri Besar Meeting.
The meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, lasted nearly three hours from 10am and served as a key platform to strengthen collaboration between the Federal and State Governments, particularly in aligning policies and coordinating joint development initiatives.
'Through this synergy, we can ensure the implementation of the national development agenda runs smoothly, comprehensively, and inclusively for the well-being of the people and the overall progress of Malaysia,' Anwar was quoted as saying.
Abang Johari was accompanied by Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.
Following the meeting's conclusion at 12.40pm, the Sarawak Premier also held a closed-door discussion with the Prime Minister in his office.
Abang Johari, who also serves as Minister of Finance and New Economy and Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Planning, was joined by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Zara Qairina, 13, was believed to have fallen from the third floor and was found unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory in Papar, Sabah, at 4 am on July 16. She was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital here on July 17. The student's death quickly went viral, sparking widespread public reaction on social media. On Saturday, Mohd Khalid said the investigation paper regarding Zara Qairina's death had been completed and would be submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers for further action. Police have recorded statements from 60 witnesses, including students and staff of SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha Limauan, and three individuals nicknamed 'Kak Wana,' 'Kak Dedeng,' and 'Tomboi' who were cited in social media rumors. The probe focuses on two angles: the cause of death (including possible bullying) and the circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigation papers are now with Bukit Aman for review before submission to the Attorney General's Chambers. Govt bent on safeguarding Sabah's rights – Anwar

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen's Day here on Sunday, Anwar said the Federal Government will also continue to safeguard the nation's sovereignty against any form of intrusion, whether on land or at sea. He further emphasised that Malaysia is prepared to bring matters concerning Sabah's rights and the country's sovereignty to international court proceedings if necessary. 'Why are we doing this? Because this is our country — Sabah is part of Malaysia. We are spending tens of millions of Ringgit, maybe a hundred million Ringgit, to defend our rights. We will not allow even an inch of our land or sea to be encroached upon. 'Wherever it may be — in the Spanish courts or internationally — we will fight to the maximum to defend Sabah's rights because Sabah is part of Malaysia,' he said. Also present were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, and his deputy Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup. Anwar said the MADANI Government is committed to driving Sabah's development and resolving demands under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) through various initiatives and allocations, stressing that the relationship between the state and Federal Governments must remain strong. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said among the resolved matters is the interim special grant for Sabah, which has been increased from RM300 million to RM600 million this year, along with an allocation of RM10 billion to complete the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah. 'It (Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah) was delayed under the previous government, but we are continuing it under the responsibility of the Federal Government. Maybe it's not visible yet, not completed, but at least we've approved it and the work packages are in progress,' he said. On utilities, Anwar said the Federal Government has given full authority over electricity supply management to the state government, along with continuous subsidies for seven years until 2030 amounting to RM3.54 billion. To address the ongoing water supply issues, the Federal Government has approved an allocation of RM300 million, in addition to handing over projects worth under RM50 million to the state administration.

MADANI govt boosts farmers, breeders & fishermen welfare
KUALA LUMPUR: The Madani government remains committed to uplifting farmers, breeders, and fishermen through strategic support and empowerment, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced. Highlighting their pivotal role in national food security, he stressed the need for federal-state synergy to advance modern agriculture and the blue economy. 'I emphasised the need for strong synergy between the Federal Government, state governments and relevant agencies in strategically focusing on the development of the modern agricultural sector and the blue economy for the people's wellbeing and environmental sustainability,' Anwar said in a Facebook post. Reflecting on his tenure as Agriculture Minister four decades ago, he noted the enduring resilience of these groups. 'That experience shaped a deep understanding of the hardship and resilience of farmers, breeders and fishermen who serve as the backbone of national food security.' Under the 13th Malaysia Plan, the government aims to enhance agrofood productivity and rural competitiveness.
