Noida Couple Fined Rs 55,000 After Video Of Bike Stunt Goes Viral
Noida:
A video of a man and woman performing a dangerous stunt on a motorcycle along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway surfaced on social media on Monday, prompting the local traffic police to issue a fine of Rs 55,000 for flouting traffic norms.
The 19-second video, filmed on June 15, showed the girl sitting astride on the fuel tank of the motorcycle and hugging the man who was driving it. The video sparked outrage among people.
Lakhan Singh Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in Gautam Buddh Nagar, said that traffic police have issued a fine, stating that both riders were penalised for violating traffic regulations. He also urged the youth to follow road safety norms to prevent accidents and avoid legal consequences.
"The video came to notice through social media in which a boy and his co-rider were seen flouting traffic norms. After that, a challan of Rs 55,000 has been issued to them for flouting traffic norms," Mr Yadav said.
He further appealed to the public to adhere to traffic rules and refrain from engaging in such risky behaviour, emphasising that penalties would continue to be enforced for traffic violations.
The video, which was shot by a passerby, sparked outrage amongst many social media users who called for severe punishment for those involved.
A local resident, Rahul Chhonker, expressed concern over such stunts, stating that they not only put the lives of the riders at risk.
"They invite others to copy and do the same with another twist. Besides, such acts also create a bad impression on families and new generations. It is also a risk for their lives,' Chhonker said.
Authorities have urged the public to stay vigilant and report any such instances, ensuring that road safety regulations are followed to prevent accidents and promote safer driving practices.

Agents who dupe poor with promises of a future abroad devalue Indian passport, says Supreme Court
The Supreme Court on Monday (June 16, 2025) orally observed that agents who dupe 'poor and gullible' people with dreams of a future in countries like the United States and the United Kingdom by promising to smuggle them in through the 'donkey routes' devalue the Indian passport. 'Have you seen these poor, gullible people being brought back in chains? Because of people like you, the Indian passport is devalued,' a Bench of Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Manmohan addressed a counsel, who appeared for an agent accused of tricking people off their money by promising them a career abroad. The lawyer had sought anticipatory bail for the agent. 'Look at the donkey route… Nicaragua, Ecuador, Peru, Chile… Looks like the whole of the Americas…' Justice Manmohan remarked. What is a donkey route? 'Donkey route' or 'Donkey journey' refers to an illegal method of migration, usually used to enter countries like the United States or the United Kingdom. The process involves utilising human smugglers and navigating through various countries, often facing harsh and dangerous conditions, to bypass legal immigration processes. The Bench termed the allegations 'very serious' and refused to entertain the anticipatory bail plea of Om Prakash, who hails from Haryana. Prakash, the FIR alleged, was an accomplice to the main accused, who was working as an agent and had assured the complainant that he would send him to the U.S. through valid means on the payment of ₹43 lakh. The main accused sent the complainant to Dubai in September 2024, and from there to different countries, then to the forests of Panama, and then to Mexico. On February 1, main accused's agents made the complainant cross the U.S. border. The complainant was arrested by the U.S. Police, jailed and deported to India on February 16.

EOW: IPS officer got Rs 2.6 crore in account from husband facing probe
IPS officer got Rs 2.6 crore in account from husband facing probe MUMBAI: IPS officer Rashmi Karandikar received Rs 2.64 crore in her bank account from her husband Puroshattam Chavan, who is facing investigation in two cases of cheating and money laundering, according to a probe by the Economic Offences Wing. The investigators also found that Karandikar invested the money in share market intraday trading, but lost. The EOW has written to the Maharashtra director general of police (DGP), seeking clarification if Karandikar had declared this in her asset disclosure. The money was received in a 90-day period between 2017 and 2018. The police have not named her as an accused. When contacted by TOI, Karandikar responded via WhatsApp, "I am on medical leave and not in a condition to talk." The EOW had registered two First Information Reports (FIRs) in February this year against Chavan and 11 others for allegedly duping 20 victims of Rs 24.78 crore under the pretext of providing government quota flats in Mumbai, Thane and Pune at concessional rates. Chavan allegedly misused his influence to promise flats and govt plots in Bhiwandi, Pune, Panvel, Sewri, and even plots belonging to the Bombay Port Trust (BPT). In addition to these cases, the Enforcement Directorate is separately probing Chavan in a Rs 263-crore income tax refund fraud. "The money was transferred to Karandikar's account and not reversed. We have summoned her for questioning so that she can provide an explanation. However, she has not appeared so far, citing medical leave," an EOW official said. According to an associate of Karandikar, she has initiated divorce proceedings at the Bandra family court, citing mental cruelty, financial harassment, incompatibility, her husband's bipolar disorder, and concealment of financial dealings. Karandikar reportedly vacated her official quarters located above Colaba police station without formally informing police headquarters.
