Sabah polls: Decision to collaborate with Pakatan was not made unilaterally, says Hajiji
"We have discussed with all the presidents of the parties," he said, dismissing assumptions that the decision was unilateral, as some leaders were surprised by his announcement of the pact being finalised.
He was asked whether the decision to work with Pakatan was his own and one-sided, to which he stressed that he had met with the presidents of the parties in the eight-party GRS coalition prior to the announcement during the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) on Sunday.
Earlier, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee, whose party is keen for GRS to go solo, said that GRS had not met to endorse any decision for the pact with Pakatan.
Hajiji noted that there is a lot of politicking going on in Sabah at the moment, and it was best not to listen to everything being said or circulated outside.
As to whether and when the supreme council will be meeting, he confirmed it would happen but declined to give a date.
'I will call and inform you later. I cannot tell you now because we don't have a date yet,' he added.
On other issues, Hajiji, who recently returned from Jakarta with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, mentioned that the meeting between Malaysia and Jakarta touched on issues relating to Sabah, among other things.
'We have stated the state government's stand on issues concerning us and the outcome was very positive,' he said without further elaboration.
All he could say is that issues relating to Sabah were being fine-tuned and good things were in place for the state.
As to the long-standing maritime boundary claim involving Ambalat with the Indonesian government, Hajiji said these were discussed based on international laws, indicating it was a separate matter.

Indonesian president Prabowo pardons political opponents

(AP pic) JAKARTA: Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto pardoned two political rivals, a former trade minister and a senior politician from an opposition party a few weeks after both were sentenced to jail, officials said. Prabowo granted amnesty to Hasto Kristiyanto, the secretary general of parliament's largest party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas said late on Thursday in a news conference broadcast by local media, after meeting the House's deputy speaker. Hasto was sentenced to 3-1/2 years in prison last week for bribing an election official but the amnesty revokes his sentence though his conviction will still stand. The president also granted an abolition for Thomas Trikasih Lembong, a trade minister under president Joko Widodo who was sentenced to 3-1/2 years in prison for improperly granting sugar import permits, Supratman said in the news conference. The abolition means, Lembong, who was the campaign manager of Prabowo's rival candidate in last year's presidential election, is acquitted of the charges and his sentence. Prabowo granted the clemencies as the government sees the need to unite all political elements and as part of Indonesia's independence celebrations in August, said Supratman. 'We need to build this nation together, with all the political elements … And both have contributed to the republic,' Supratman said. It is common for the Indonesian president to give pardons ahead of the national independence day on Aug 17. The amnesty for Hasto was among the pardons given to more than 1,100 other people, Supratman added. Lawyers for Hasto and Lembong did not immediately respond for Reuters' request for comments. Under Indonesian law, the president has the authority to give amnesty and abolition but it requires approval from the parliament, said Bivitri Susanti from Indonesia's Jentera School of Law. Still, she said the amnesty given to Hasto was rather 'political' to gain support from the largest opposition party in the parliament while for Lembong, the government is responding to growing protests from the public over his sentence. Other observers were concerned the pardons undercut efforts by the judiciary to deal with corruption in a country where concerns about graft and government misconduct are high. PBS wants to play key role in consolidating GRS coalition

Support for PBS has also been overwhelming, he said, as it continues to gain traction in memberships with increasing number of party divisions and branches. 'According to reports from all divisional branches, our membership has been growing recently, and new branches are being established. 'This positive development bodes well for our efforts to strengthen GRS under the able leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. 'We need to solidify GRS because it is a platform for local Sabahan political leaders to speak out in one voice in support of state rights and bringing them to the attention of federal government,' he stressed. Bangkuai, who is also GRS information chief, was speaking at the Telupid PBS Annual General Meeting here, Saturday.
