The summer of George hits Yankee Stadium with Costanza nap bobblehead on ‘Seinfeld Night'
The Yankees announced Thursday that the first 18,000 fans at the team's Aug. 21 matchup against the Red Sox will get a bobblehead of George Costanza sleeping under his desk at former owner George Steinbrenner's office as a part of 'Seinfeld Night' at the stadium.
The former Yankees assistant to the traveling secretary on the long-running sitcom is depicted in the bobblehead sleeping on the job, a reference to 'Seinfeld's' Season 8 episode 'The Nap.'

In the episode, Costanza, played by Jason Alexander, transforms his desk's underbelly into a sleeping area fit with an alarm clock and space for a blanket and cup holder with the help of a handyman.
'This is better than my bed at home,' Costanza, played by Jason Alexander, said once it's complete.
Just when he tries to test out his new office sleeping area, Steinbrenner, voiced by Larry David, comes in looking for Costanza, which prompts him to phone Jerry Seinfeld to make an emergency call to get the Yankees owner out of the building.
The Yankees also gave away a George Costanza bobblehead last season.

This is not the first time the Yankees have released a bobblehead of Costanza, with the team handing out a figurine of him against the Red Sox last season that showed stars Derek Jeter and Bernie Williams the simple physics of hitting.
That bobblehead, which was handed out on July 5, 2024, is a reference from another Season 8 episode titled 'The Abstinence,' in which Costanza is seen hitting batting practice in a shirt and tie.
As he blasts a homer during the episode, Jeter asks: 'Who are you again?' to which Costanza replies: 'George Costanza, Assistant to the Traveling Secretary.'
Fans lined up for the previous bobblehead four hours ahead of first pitch.

NFL's, MLB's Giants poke fun at infamous Mike Francesa radio show phone call with 'annual meeting'
The long-awaited meetup between the San Francisco Giants and New York Giants has finally happened. Back in 2015, "Dan in Warwick" called legendary New York sports radio host Mike Francesa and asked him if "there had ever been a franchise-to-franchise … get-together" between the MLB and NFL teams, since they had the same name and the MLB team used to play in New York. Francesa was absolutely flabbergasted, saying, "That might be the weirdest question in a long time." He then joked that the "Giant picnic" is in Totowa during a weekend together, and the New York and Texas Rangers have similar gatherings in Albeliene. "[Henrik] Lundqvist is particularly close with Yu Darvish," Francesa joked. "There's a kinship there between the two of them." It has gone down as one of the greatest phone calls in radio show history, and it's been a hot topic in the tri-state with the MLB's Giants in New York this weekend to take on the Mets. Well, "Dan in Warick's" wishes have finally been granted. In a video posted on X, Francesa is seen walking through a hall before entering a door. Spotted in the room are New York's Eli Manning and Shaun O'Hara, and San Francisco's Logan Webb and Matt Chapman at the "Giants Giants Annual Meeting" (probably in Totowa). "They really do get together!" Francesa says, before exiting the room. The MLB team posted, "Our turn to host next year." Francesa fell victim to many prank calls in his later years, including if the Mets could go 162-0 after an Opening Day victory, how Mickey Mantle could win the Triple Crown if he was not a horse, that the Mets should call up "Game of Thrones" characters Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister (which he thought was a bad idea), and, well, whatever this is. Francesa retired briefly in 2017 but returned a few months later, but went back off the radio airwaves full-time in 2019 and later started a podcast.

Noah Lyles staring down Kenny Bednarek was great cinema for track
Just when track and field starts to fade from the consciousness of the average casual like myself, here comes Noah Lyles injecting new life into the sport with another of his antics that force you to pay attention. On Sunday, it was Lyles staring down Kenny Bednarek as the two crossed the 200m finish line at the U.S. track and field championships after Lyles walked down his fellow Olympian to earn the win. The race itself was phenomenal. Bednarek had Lyles beat -- until Lyles hit another gear for the final few yards and pulled ahead. But what Lyles did in victory -- and how Bednarek reacted -- is why anyone is talking about it today. The stare down made for a colddddd photo finish, but Bednarek understandably wasn't here for it -- especially with Lyles seemingly slowing down in front of him to make sure Bednarek acknowledged what just took place. As the NBC broadcaster said, "the little look over and the discussion after is to make sure that he asserts his dominance." So, Bednarek gave Lyles a little shove, and the two exchanged words all the way into the post-race interview. It was absolute cinema. Admittedly, as much fun as I'm having with this today, I find these kind of gimmicks from Lyles to be somewhat off-putting. From him going after NBA players over shoes and "world" championships to his Yu-Gi-Oh! card pulls. There's a thin line between endearing braggadocio and annoying attention-seeking, and Lyles leans more toward the latter for me. But in an individual sport like track that only reaches mainstream audiences through stars, the tactics an athlete uses to cut through the noise are less important than whether they actually back it up once they do. And Lyles usually backs it up. That's why he has a perpetual license to taunt as much as he wants. On Sunday, it made for a moment we're still talking about the next day. More importantly, it made the next meeting between Lyles and Bednarek appointment viewing, with Bednarek saying "next time we line up, Ima win." We can't wait to see him try. An MLB Speedway Classic champion crowned After a false start Saturday, MLB's Speedway Classic finally got off the ground Sunday and ended better than it started when fans on social media were comparing the event to the disastrous Fyre Festival. In the end, the Atlanta Braves came away with the win over the Cincinnati Reds, and even picked up some hardware for their troubles. No really, the Braves got a trophy for this thing. A giant trophy at that. Social media had a ball with this one too, because of course it did. We have a trade The top team in the WNBA just got a little better Sunday, as the Minnesota Lynx pulled off a trade to acquire DiJonai Carrington from the Dallas Wings. Minnesota had to give up promising young forward Diamond Miller in the deal, but Carrington gives the team a veteran on the wing who's playoff-tested and ready to contribute to winning right away. FTW's Meg Hall graded the deal favorably for the Lynx: "Bringing in Carrington does a few things for Reeve's squad. First, it adds valuable guard and wing depth. Carrington is more comfortable as a wing, but could take over point guard duties if necessary. She can even start if they need her to, which is huge. With that in mind, veteran Kayla McBride has to be jumping for joy right now. Carrington will fit nicely as depth behind her, and because she's an excellent defender, it takes a lot more pressure off McBride to have to be everything all at once." Evelyn Lozada & Daughter Shaniece Hairston Slam Tiffney Cambridge Betrayal Buzz Again, Allege The Game's Ex Was Only An ‘Associate'
Evelyn Lozada and her daughter Shaniece Hairston are shutting down the chatter, again. After news broke that Shaniece welcomed a baby boy—Blaze Taylor—with rapper The Game in 2024, fans were quick to scream betrayal against the duo for disrespecting Evelyn's 'best friend', Tiffney Cambridge. According to Shaniece, however, Tiffney was merely an associate who was on the same network as her famed mom. Source: Tiffany Rose / Getty In case you forgot, Tiffney and The Game were together for eight years, have two kids, and even had a VH1 show ( Marrying The Game , 2012–2014) that chronicled their messy split, according to Hollywood Unlocked. Now, on the July 30 episode of the Drop The Lo podcast, Evelyn put it all on the table, asking Shaniece straight-up if they crossed any lines with Tiffney following baby Blaze's arrival. The mother-daughter duo didn't hold back and cleared the air about where they stand and what really went down. 'They turned it into a whole story that it wasn't,' Evelyn, a former cast member of VH1's Basketball Wives , said at the 8:58 minute mark. Shaniece also agreed. 'Yeah, that's really a story that grew hands and legs, and fingers. I don't even know where it came from and who started that. But I don't respond to that because it's absolutely ridiculous. It's not true,' she explained. According to the 32-year-old internet star, Evelyn, 49, and Tiffney were never 'best friends,' even though Tiffney was seen in several photos with her mother, where they appeared to be close. One photo that surfaced in 2024 captured Tiffney standing next to Shaniece as she cradled Evelyn's pregnant belly at the baby shower for her second child, Carl Leo Crawford. Evelyn shares Carl with former MLB star Carl Crawford. Notably, several images leaked at the time captured both stars snuggled close alongside Basketball Wives creator Shaunie Henderson. 'A lot of people were at your baby shower. You guys were on the same network. And that was like over a decade ago. So, I don't feel any type of way that you were in the presence of and why should I? It's not like you guys were 'best friends.' It wasn't 'my friend.' That's a big one though, 'cause I get that all the time.' Evelyn insisted that the rumors of betrayal were a 'huge, huge, huge misconception.' The reality TV star described Tiffney as an 'amazing woman' and 'super cool,' but she claimed they never developed a close bond. 'And to be honest—I know about you, and me too—I don't live in a space of, 'I'm gonna sit up here and do this and I'm just gonna lie.' If it was the truth, then I would be like, 'It was the truth and some things happen.' Cool. But, it grew legs, arms, feet, ears, all of that. It was such a viral thing. I still have comments where people are like, 'How dare you? Your daughter had a baby with your best friend's [ex].' Granted, I think she's an amazing woman and super cool, but we didn't share space like that. We don't have a relationship like that. But, I think it's based off of photos from back in the day that came out.' This isn't the first time Evelyn has had to shut down rumors about her supposedly double-crossing Tiffney. In August 2024, the TV star took to social media to shut down the same accusations after she and The Game went public with photos of baby Blaze. 'It's always interesting for me to read the stuff about myself that are just false,' the reality star said flatout. ''Oh my God, this person was best friends with that person, how dare they!' Guys, stopping making this s**t up. Everything that you read online, a lot of it is bullsh*t….some of this stuff is crazy to read!' she said at the time, adding, 'If I was in a photo with somebody 10, 15 years ago, whatever it is, it doesn't mean we were friends, it doesn't mean we were best friends, it doesn't mean that we dated. You can be in a photo with somebody, or you can share space with somebody, and it not be what people make it out to be.'
