Miami football player was driver in wreck that killed three, two of which were children, police say
A Miami football player was found to be the driver in a two-car crash that killed three people in the other vehicle, two of which were children, police said on Monday.
Linebacker Adarius Hayes was injured in the wreck, but was released from the hospital.
The people killed in the Kia Soul were aged 78, 10, and 4.
"We are deeply saddened to learn the crash resulted in three fatalities, as confirmed by Largo Police, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those lost," the Hurricanes said in a statement.
The school is still working to gather further information.
Another passenger in the Kia was hospitalized with serious injuries, police said.
"There were no signs of impairment with either driver of the vehicles," Largo Police public information officer Megan Santo said in a statement distributed Sunday.
The Orlando Sentinel noted that Hayes has a history of driving citations, including several instances of speeding, and another for careless driving that resulted in a separate crash.
Hayes played in 12 games as a freshman for Miami last season, mostly on special teams. He was a four-star recruit coming out of Largo High and picked Miami after drawing interest from Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State, among others.
Largo is about 20 miles east of Tampa and about 15 miles north of St. Petersburg on Florida's Gulf coast

77-year-old man airlifted after crash near Big Rapids
BIG RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 77-year-old man was airlifted to the hospital after a car crash near Big Rapids Saturday afternoon, deputies say. It happened in front of the Meijer on Perry Avenue near US-131 around 1 p.m. The Mecosta County Sheriff's Department says the 77-year-old man pulled out of the road to Meijer and into the path of a westbound car, causing the crash. The 77-year-old, from Reed City, was not wearing his seat belt and was thrown from his car, the sheriff's department said. He was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital with injuries that are considered life-threatening. Two killed, four injured in Mills County crash Friday
GLENWOOD, Iowa — Two people were killed and four were injured following a two-vehicle crash in Mills County on Friday afternoon. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash happened Friday around 4:20 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 34 and 195th Street, southwest of Glenwood. The ISP report states a school bus was heading eastbound on Highway 34 when an SUV entered the roadway from a stop sign at 195th Street for an unknown reason. The bus then struck the SUV in the roadway. Des Moines woman dies from injuries sustained in Wednesday night crash Both occupants of the SUV, 62-year-old Ralph Schultz and 66-year-old Perla Schultz from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, died from injuries sustained during the collision. The driver of the school bus, 63-year-old Jeanette Henderson, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Three passengers on the bus also sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital. A post on Facebook reports that the school bus was carrying the Council Bluffs St. Albert Softball team. Friday night's softball games between St. Albert and Fremont-Mills were canceled due to the accident. Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Mills County Sheriff's Office. Ormond Beach police arrest man on federal warrant for threats against Donald Trump, others
Ormond Beach police said they arrested a 25-year-old man on Thursday, June 5, on a federal warrant for making online threats against President Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and others. Sheldon Biddle, whose last known address was in Ormond Beach, has made antisemitic statements and radical threats of violence, police said, while also expressing hostility toward law enforcement. Threats were made against Trump, billionaire Elon Musk, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino on an X social-media account determined by the Secret Service to be Biddle's, according to Ormond Beach police. Court records show that this was the second time Biddle had been arrested for making threats against Trump and the others. On April 11, Ormond Beach police charged him with written threats to kill or do bodily injury, or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism. He spent two days in jail before bonding out. Records show he was jailed again on Thursday, June 5, as a fugitive from justice and was being held without bond. On April 7, one of the posts read: "If I was in DC I'd shoot you @netanyahu." On April 2, the account posted: "Trump is gonna get assassinated for being a treasonous traitor." A March 19 post read: "You're gonna eat led tyrant boy," in response to a post by Bongino. A YouTube account associated with Biddle included video titles "Joe Biden molested me" and "Shooting up the YouTube headquarters for all the censorship." Biddle has at least three previous arrests after which he pleaded no contest to charges including possession of a concealed firearm, battery (domestic violence), trespassing and resisting an officer without violence. In each case, the State Attorney's Office withheld adjudication. In 2023, he was charged with resisting arrest with violence, a felony, but the charge was reduced to a misdemeanor and moved to county court, records show. "We have absolutely no tolerance for threats of violence in our city," Ormond Beach Police Chief Jesse Godfrey said. "No one should feel unsafe in their place of worship, neighborhood or community, and we will act swiftly to hold offenders accountable."
