Encounter under way between security forces and terrorists in J&K's Awantipora
NEW DELHI: An
encounter
broke out between security forces and terrorists in Tral area of
Jammu
and
Kashmir
's Awantipora on Thursday.
"Encounter has started at Nader, Tral area of Awantipora," J&K Police wrote on X.
"Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow," it added.
This comes days after three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed in an encounter with the armed forces under Operation Keller in Shopian.
The slain terrorists were linked to Pakistan-backed banned outfit LeT. Two of them — Shahid Kuttay and Adnan Shafi Dar — were locals from Shopian. Their family homes had been demolished after the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists.
The identity of the third
terrorist
is yet to be confirmed.
Security forces also seized a massive cache of weapons and ammunition, including rifles, bullets, and grenades a day after gunning down the three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists under Operation Keller.
The recovered arms are believed to have belonged to the trio neutralised on Tuesday during a joint operation in the dense forests of Shoekal Keller.
Operation Keller was launched following intelligence inputs from Rashtriya Rifles about the presence of armed terrorists in the area. The encounter marks Kashmir's second major counterterrorism success this year, following the March 16 killing of a Pakistani terrorist in Handwara.

He said the interim government of Bangladesh had not taken any action so far. Patra said Tagore's house was declared an international museum by the Government of Bangladesh, preserving the legacy of India's heritage, where many of Rabindranath Tagore's works were created. The house was vandalised by a mob following a confrontation between a visitor and a museum employee. Authorities launched an investigation into the incident and temporarily closed the site to the public, a report mentioned. According to local media reports, the unrest began when a visitor arrived at the Rabindra Kachharibari, also known as the Rabindra Memorial Museum, with his family. A dispute reportedly broke out between the visitor and staff at the entrance over a motorcycle parking fee. Tensions escalated, and the visitor was allegedly confined in an office room and physically assaulted by staff. The incident sparked local outrage and the auditorium of the Kachharibari was vandalised, and a director of the institution was physically attacked.

India's blood not meant for shedding: Home Minister Amit Shah
LUCKNOW: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said India's blood was not meant for shedding and added that adequate punishment in equal measure would be handed out to whoever would dare to that. He claimed that PM Modi conveyed the message 'loud and clear' through Operation Sindoor during which the terror bases of Pakistan were destroyed by Indian forces. Shah was addressing a gathering at an event to distribute appointment letters to over 60,000 newly selected police constables in Lucknow on June 15. On the occasion, UP CM Yogi Adityanath handed over the letters to the new recruits. The event marked the biggest-ever direct recruitment drive for police constables in the history of the UP police. Under the 'Civil Police Direct Recruitment' drive, as many as 48,196 male and 12,048 female candidates have been selected by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board. While addressing the recruits, Shah attacked previous governments led by the Congress party for not being able to curb terrorist attacks across the country till 2014.
