Encounter under way between security forces and terrorists in J&K's Awantipora
NEW DELHI: An
encounter
broke out between security forces and terrorists in Tral area of
Jammu
and
Kashmir
's Awantipora on Thursday.
"Encounter has started at Nader, Tral area of Awantipora," J&K Police wrote on X.
"Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow," it added.
This comes days after three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed in an encounter with the armed forces under Operation Keller in Shopian.
The slain terrorists were linked to Pakistan-backed banned outfit LeT. Two of them — Shahid Kuttay and Adnan Shafi Dar — were locals from Shopian. Their family homes had been demolished after the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists.
The identity of the third
terrorist
is yet to be confirmed.
Security forces also seized a massive cache of weapons and ammunition, including rifles, bullets, and grenades a day after gunning down the three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists under Operation Keller.
The recovered arms are believed to have belonged to the trio neutralised on Tuesday during a joint operation in the dense forests of Shoekal Keller.
Operation Keller was launched following intelligence inputs from Rashtriya Rifles about the presence of armed terrorists in the area. The encounter marks Kashmir's second major counterterrorism success this year, following the March 16 killing of a Pakistani terrorist in Handwara.
Security forces remain on high alert amid a temporary pause in Indo-Pak hostilities that followed India's May 7 airstrikes on nine terror launchpads in PoK under
Operation Sindoor

Delhi BJP plans protest against vandalism at Tagore's ancestral house in B'desh
Delhi unit Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Virendra Sachdeva and other party MPs will on Monday march towards Bangladesh High Commission to protest against vandalism at Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in the neighbouring country. A Delhi BJP spokesperson said that the march will start from Teen Murti Chowk at around 3.45 p.m. and proceed towards Bangladesh High Commission in Chankyapuri to demand protection for Tagore's ancestral home. The BJP has condemned the attack on Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in Bangladesh, terming it a pre-planned act of violence. The party has repeatedly urged the world community, which values morality, culture, and creativity, to come together and strongly condemn the attack on Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral house. BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra earlier said: "The site was vandalised, and significant damage was done. Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was no ordinary figure. He was not just a literary icon; he was a man of diversity, who gave a lot to the world, he was man with personality beyond borders.' Patra said media reports suggested that the attack was carried out by members of organizations like Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam. He said the interim government of Bangladesh had not taken any action so far. Patra said Tagore's house was declared an international museum by the Government of Bangladesh, preserving the legacy of India's heritage, where many of Rabindranath Tagore's works were created. The house was vandalised by a mob following a confrontation between a visitor and a museum employee. Authorities launched an investigation into the incident and temporarily closed the site to the public, a report mentioned. According to local media reports, the unrest began when a visitor arrived at the Rabindra Kachharibari, also known as the Rabindra Memorial Museum, with his family. A dispute reportedly broke out between the visitor and staff at the entrance over a motorcycle parking fee. Tensions escalated, and the visitor was allegedly confined in an office room and physically assaulted by staff. The incident sparked local outrage and the auditorium of the Kachharibari was vandalised, and a director of the institution was physically attacked.

Rooftop Party Scenes From Lebanon Amid Israel-Iran Strikes Go Viral
Last Updated: Videos emerged on social media showing people partying from a rooftop in neighbouring Lebanon as missile attackswere observed in the sky. While Iran and Israel engaged in one of their most intense confrontations in history, videos emerged on social media showing people partying from a rooftop in neighbouring Lebanon as missile streaks were observed in the sky. In a viral video on X, a musician was seen playing the saxophone from the rooftop of a hotel while guests got up from their seats to capture the missile attacks on their phones. A DJ continued to play the music while two countries exchanged deadly fire. An on-screen caption in a video read, 'Meanwhile in Lebanon". News18 could not independently verify the authenticity of the video. Users were left amused by the party scenes in Lebanon in the middle of a deadly conflict. 'Dark times when people are out there enjoying missiles falling around them, like it's some kind of show," one user said. 'Playing music like the band when the titanic was going down," another netizen commented. 'It's all fun and games until it hits u in the face," a third person wrote. Israeli armed forces launched an unprecedented attack on Iran and conducted multiple overnight airstrikes, targeting Iran's nuclear and military sites under 'Operation Rising Lion'. Iranian media has said that Israeli attacks have killed at least 128 people and wounded 900 others over the past two days. In response, Iran unleashed 'Operation True Promise III," a barrage of more than 150 ballistic missiles and over 100 drones in multiple waves aimed at key Israeli cities. The missile attacks killed at least 10 people and injured more than 200 civilians. Notably, Lebanon also faced the brunt of Israeli strikes last year after the Iran-backed Hezbollah group launched airstrikes after the Gaza war broke out. Israel's retaliatory strikes killed Hezbollah's top leadership and destroyed its missile stockpile. First Published:

India's blood not meant for shedding: Home Minister Amit Shah
LUCKNOW: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said India's blood was not meant for shedding and added that adequate punishment in equal measure would be handed out to whoever would dare to that. He claimed that PM Modi conveyed the message 'loud and clear' through Operation Sindoor during which the terror bases of Pakistan were destroyed by Indian forces. Shah was addressing a gathering at an event to distribute appointment letters to over 60,000 newly selected police constables in Lucknow on June 15. On the occasion, UP CM Yogi Adityanath handed over the letters to the new recruits. The event marked the biggest-ever direct recruitment drive for police constables in the history of the UP police. Under the 'Civil Police Direct Recruitment' drive, as many as 48,196 male and 12,048 female candidates have been selected by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board. While addressing the recruits, Shah attacked previous governments led by the Congress party for not being able to curb terrorist attacks across the country till 2014. "Terrorist attacks used to happen every day under Congress' rule, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Coimbatore, Delhi, and don't even mention Kashmir. Pakistan tried to attack India thrice during PM Modi's rule. When tried in Uri, they were met with a surgical strike. After Pulwama attack, they were met with an air strike. After Pahalgam attack, the headquarters of terrorists were razed to the ground through Operation Sindoor." Referring to the commitment of eradicating the menace of naxalism by March 31, 2026, the Union Home Minister said that during the last decade under Modi government, Naxalism's spread was reduced from over 11 states to just 3 districts. "The country has become safe and secure. Naxalism was prevalent in 11 states of the country. After last 11 years of PM Modi, naxalism is present in only three districts now. Don't forget my words: By 31. 3. 2026, this country will be free from Naxalism," he reiterated. Meanwhile, Shah, while referring to the recruitment drive for UP police constables, said that while modernisation of India's police forces began nationwide under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, Uttar Pradesh's efforts in this direction was taken only in 2017 after the formation of a BJP government under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. "The Centre's reforms were not visible in UP from 2014 to 2017," Shah said. Commending the Yogi government for holding the biggest ever recruitment drive in the state so far, Shah stated that the recruitment process was carried out transparently, without any influence of factors like caste, recommendation, or bribery.
