What is NordVPN's new Scam Call Protection feature?
Now available in the NordVPN Android app for US users, the feature scans incoming calls for suspicious patterns and alerts users to potential scams before they pick up. The tool can run in the background while you use your phone, doesn't require the VPN to be connected, and works without accessing the content of any calls. Instead, it analyzes metadata using a privacy-first approach.
Setup is simple: users can enable the feature from the "Threat Protection" tab within the NordVPN app, then follow the prompts to update their Android settings.
Future updates will introduce caller ID for verified businesses, more detailed call categories (such as financial or healthcare services), and a community reporting system for suspicious numbers. Support for iOS and international markets is also in development.

A 'Talk live about this' prompt also appears, but the audio isn't accurately processed yet. While the feature might not be fully operational, we know that Gemini can comprehend audio. Ever wished you could just throw an MP3 at Gemini and have it explain what it's about? That might be coming soon, as we've spotted early signs of audio file support in the Gemini app for Android. ⚠️ An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release. In version of the Google app beta, we managed to activate a new file attachment feature when chatting with Gemini. You can now attach audio files like MP3s, and when you do, Gemini shows a new suggestion: 'Talk live about this.' That sounds promising, but it doesn't actually work yet. After uploading an audio file, you can either type a regular question or choose to 'talk live' about it. In both cases, Gemini doesn't seem to understand or respond to the file in any meaningful way. Sometimes it ignores the audio entirely. Other times, it confidently makes things up, as seen in the third screenshot below, but chatbot hallucinations aren't exclusive to audio files or Gemini. Still, it's not hard to see where this is going. On the developer side, Gemini already supports audio input through the API. You can feed it audio and ask it to describe what it hears, summarize it, or transcribe what's being said. It even handles timestamp requests like 'from 2:30 to 3:29,' and works with formats like MP3, WAV, and FLAC. That's likely what Google is building toward on the Android app — we're just not there yet. For now, it's more like a placeholder than a finished feature, and there's also no guarantee when or if it will launch. The coolest change, in my opinion, is the new Liquid Glass design (think Windows Vista, but arguably more thoughtful), which looks to be Apple's largest visual update in years. (While the beta is open to the public and stable, always remember there's a degree of risk involved with beta software.) Not ready to upgrade your smartphone this year? Last year, Apple didn't nix any iPhones from its eligibility list, but that's not the case for 2025 — a few models are getting cut this time. Comprehensive benchmarking revealed that Reddit's builds now run up to 30% faster, with job queue times consistently dropping to around five seconds. Buildkite's Git caching and container caching features were 'absolute game changers,' reducing Git checkout times from several minutes to 30-40 seconds. Intelligent build cancellation and log customization further improved developer experience and operational efficiency. The migration was conducted by a remarkably lean core team. 'We built most of the Android pipelines and the iOS pipelines with two people,' said Struys. 'You don't need massive engineering resources to use Buildkite, but the scale is tremendous. We've got 170 plus engineers on it now, and most of our builds are running like 12 to 15 jobs in each field now.' It was also executed with exceptional care through a staged approach, including having shadow builds running in parallel to production systems to ensure a zero-risk transition.
