Man Utd's dream striker target opens talks as summer saga takes new twist
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Victor Osimhen but Juventus have now come to the negotiation table as they look to land the Napoli striker
Juventus have entered the race to sign Victor Osimhen, who has attracted huge interest this summer with Manchester United also keen on the Nigerian. His time at Napoli looks to be up and the Old Lady want to keep him in Italy.
They've resumed talks with their arch rivals, who have just claimed the Serie A title but have backed Romelu Lukaku as their main man in attack. Osimhen spent last season out on loan with Galatasaray, where he continued to be prolific.
There are a number of frontmen tipped to be on the move this summer and Gazzetta claim that Osimhen remains Juventus ' primary target in attack so club representatives resumed talks with the striker's agents in recent days.
Osimhen has a €75million (£64m) release clause but that is only valid for clubs outside Serie A, which means the Bianconeri must negotiate a transfer fee with Napoli, which could prove challenging.
Viktor Gyokeres, another man who is also linked with a move to Manchester, is expected to leave Sporting Lisbon but Juventus have Osimhen ahead of the Swedish striker on their own shortlist.
The Nigerian has already turned down a mammoth offer from Al-Hilal, which has underlined his desire to remain in Europe. Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Osimhen "must be waiting" for the Premier League giants to come calling.
He said on Rio Ferdinand Presents: "No.9, they already know who I want. The comments know, the people know who I want, who I would go and get: Osimhen! It looks like he's turned down Al Hilal… he must be waiting for Man United. I don't know if Man United are going to come. That's the problem."
Osimhen only has a year left on his deal in Naples which will put his club under pressure to sell as the summer goes on. He has previously been linked with a move to Chelsea, but that never materialised last summer.
United have already landed Matheus Cunha this summer but remain on the hunt for a No.9 having missed out on Liam Delap. Their lack of European football could hamper them in some negotiations but they retain an interest in the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Gyokeres.

Juventus extend Adidas partnership to 2037 in $468 million deal
ROME, June 19 (Reuters) - Juventus ( opens new tab have extended their technical partnership with German sportswear giant Adidas ( opens new tab until June 2037, in a deal worth 408 million euros ($468 million) over a decade, the Serie A club said in a statement. The current agreement between the two parties, which runs until June 2027, will remain unchanged, the Italian club said. The new contract will then take effect from the 2027-2028 season and cover all Juventus teams until the end of the 2036-2037 season. "This renewal fills us with pride and testifies to the synergy between these two great companies," said Maurizio Scanavino, Juventus Chief Executive Officer. Juventus, famed for their black and white shirts, said the valuation for the new agreement does not include additional royalties for exceeding certain sales volumes or variable components linked to sporting results. "We're delighted to extend our partnership with the most decorated club in Italian football for a further 10 years," said Sam Handy, General Manager of Adidas Football. Juventus have won the Italian league title more than any other rival club. Juventus and Adidas joined forces from the 2015/2016 season. The German sportswear group has a long-term partnership in place with English Premier League club Manchester United (MANU.N), opens new tab which runs until 2035, and also works with other teams including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Teddy Sheringham has hit out at chief executive Omar Berrada's 'dreamlike' comments about Manchester United winning the Premier League by 2028, stressing the need for patience rather than 'pie in the sky' remarks. The Red Devils are reeling from their worst top-flight campaign in 51 years after they stumbled home 15th and missed out on European football by losing the Europa League final to Tottenham. Rivals Liverpool rubbed salt into the wound by equalling United's record of 20 English league titles – their second since the Old Trafford club last lifted the Premier League when Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out as champion in 2013. Ruben Amorim's side look some way off challenging and fulfilling the club's 'Project 150' vision to mark their 150th anniversary in 2028 by winning both the men's and women's league titles. Chief executive Berrada this month underlined his confidence in fulfilling the goal and told United We Stand 'I firmly believe that we can do it' – but Sheringham thinks such a timescale can be unhelpful. 'Omar Berrada's comments are dreamlike,' the former United striker told Sky Bet. 'In football clubs, you've got to have small steps to get to places and if you see those small steps and are encouraged and moving in the right direction, that's when you start looking positively (at the future). 'The way the talk is – 'it's alright, we're gearing for next year, everything is OK for next season' – but I think they're a long way off being anything like the Manchester United of old and the pressure will be on Ruben Amorim, without a doubt. 'If he starts the season like the end of last season, there is only one way things will go.' Sheringham hopes United come out 'all guns blazing and rip Arsenal apart' in their season opener on August 17, when Amorim will be hoping to have more firepower in place. Matheus Cunha has joined from Wolves and the Red Devils are pushing to sign Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, but questions remain about the striker position given Rasmus Hojlund's struggles 'We've been speaking about Rasmus Hojlund for a good couple of years now,' Sheringham said. 'First and foremost, I still think he's a decent striker, I just think he's been starved of service at Manchester United. 'The way they play, they play with two out-and-out wingers, no real support apart from Bruno Fernandes getting forward. It's all about the service for centre-forwards and he's had none. 'I struggle to think about any striker that you could put in there, that would suffer from the same service and still score goals. 'You'd have to be some player like Didier Drogba who did things on his own at times, to score goals. Being a young man as Hojlund is and coming into a new country and into the Premier League, trying to understand it, I think he's had a tough ride.'
