Mary J. Blige Blasts Misa Hylton's $5M Lawsuit, Accuses Her Of Harassment
According to AllHipHop, the Grammy-winning singer filed a motion through her legal team this week seeking to have the lawsuit thrown out, calling the case 'utterly meritless' and accusing the plaintiffs of attempting to stir up drama for publicity.
Hylton's lawsuit claims that Blige intentionally interfered with her business relationship with Vado, a rapper who signed a recording contract with Blige's Beautiful Life Productions in October 2023.
According to the suit, Blige allegedly encouraged Vado to sever ties with Hylton and instead work with her head of security, who Hylton claims is also Blige's boyfriend.
The suit further claims that Blige has shelved Vado's completed album until he agrees to drop M.I.S.A. Management, which reportedly stood to earn 20% of the rapper's income from album sales, live performances, and other ventures.
Blige's attorney, Sarah M. Matz, did not hold back in her response, stating, 'Plaintiffs and their counsel appear to enjoy fabricating accusations that will be discussed in the press and on social media for the purposes of harassing Defendants and trying to coerce a favorable settlement.'
In a sharply worded filing, Blige's legal team argued that M.I.S.A. Management lacks legal standing in the case, with Matz stating, 'It is stunning that Plaintiffs and their counsel attempt to assert claims on behalf of this non-existent entity.'
The motion also challenges the legitimacy of the claims made by Hylton and Vado, noting that Hylton is not a party to Vado's contract with Beautiful Life Productions and therefore has no grounds to sue.
'Vado's claims fare no better. Asserting a breach of contract claim against Blige individually is by itself sanctionable. Blige is not a party to Vado's recording agreement nor has any other basis been pled against Blige, making it clear she was included solely for purposes of harassment,' Matz continued.
Blige is not only asking the court to dismiss the claims with prejudice—preventing them from being refiled—but is also seeking damages and full reimbursement of all legal fees associated with defending against the suit.
Shortly after the lawsuit made headlines, Blige took to social media to post a cryptic message that many fans interpreted as a response to the legal drama. 'If people don't reciprocate your love, time, and energy they are not good investments. Get rid of them asap and take care of you,' she wrote on X. 'Love You!'
The court has not yet ruled on Blige's motion.More from VIBE.com

Kelly Clarkson's ex-husband and former manager, Brandon Blackstock, seemingly moved on to another romance after his high-profile split from the pop singer, the late talent manager's obituary reveals. Montana funeral provider Axelson Funeral & Cremation Services paid tribute to Blackstock, who died on Aug. 7 at age 48 following a battle with skin cancer, in an obituary shared ahead of Blackstock's Aug. 17 memorial service. "To know Brandon was to love Brandon," the obituary states. "He played important roles in shaping the careers of many larger-than-life celebrities and left a lasting impact on everyone who met him. He always had his hand out to pull others up the ladder, to open a door, to make a connection." The death announcement also touchingly highlighted Blackstock's many loved ones, such as father Narvel Blackstock, stepmother and country singer Reba McEntire, and Blackstock's children with Clarkson, daughter River and son Remington. Another name that made the list was the talent manager's business associate and apparent significant other, Brittney. "Brandon, along with his beautiful and loving partner in life and business, Brittney Marie Jones, started building a life," the tribute reads, which included "building companies and working tirelessly to create Headwaters Livestock Auction and what will live on as his legacy, The Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana." Blackstock, who met Clarkson at a rehearsal for the American Country Music Awards in 2006, was married to the Grammy-winning singer and talk-show host from October 2013 until June 2020. After nearly seven years of marriage, Clarkson filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. Denzel Washington rips Jerry Jones, state of the Cowboys on ‘First Take'
Celebrity Cowboys fan and Hollywood A-lister Denzel Washington ripped owner Jerry Jones during an appearance on ESPN's 'First Take.' Washington and Spike Lee were appearing on the ESPN program to promote their new movie 'Highest 2 Lowest' when the Cowboys came up, and the two-time Academy Award-winning actor took aim at the the franchise's owner. 'I've been a Cowboys fan since the '60s. He's making it hard for me,' Washington said about Jones. 'Not to be a fan, because I'm still a Cowboys fan. I'm still going to have the star on the side of the hat, but he ain't thinking about us. He's thinking about his pocket.' Jerry Jones attends the Premiere of Netflix's 'America's Team: The Gambler And His Cowboys' at The Egyptian Theatre Hollywood on August 11, 2025 Getty Images The Cowboys are in the middle of a very public and terse negotiation with star pass rusher Micah Parsons, who is looking for a contract extension. Parsons has expressed a desire to be traded elsewhere after negotiations continued to stall and the Cowboys' owner seemed to take shots at the football player through comments in the media. The Cowboys are coming off a disappointing season in 2024, where the team missed the postseason. 'There's box office and there's Oscars, Jerry,' an intense-looking Washington said into the camera. 'Been a while, huh? Ain't been to the show, you wouldn't know… what it is to win.' 'And I love the Cowboys!' Washington added. 'I love the Cowboys. Because I really love them, this is why I feel the way I feel.' But Washington got one final shot in at Jones when he paraphrased a tagline for the movie: 'All money ain't good money, Jerry.' Denzel Washington weighs in on the state of the Cowboys during an appearance on First Take. ESPN/YouTube The Cowboys haven't won a Super Bowl title since 1995 and haven't made it beyond the divisional round in that span either, further upsetting fans of the struggling franchise. Before last season, Dallas did make it to the postseason in three straight seasons, but fell well short in each of those appearances.
