CISF takes official charge of Mizoram's Lengpui airport

Aizawl: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Thursday officially assumed full security responsibilities for Lengpui airport, near Aizawl, following directives from the ministry of home affairs.
A reception ceremony was held at the airport terminal building to mark the occasion, with state
DGP Anil Shukla
as the chief guest.
During the ceremony, DGP Shukla said the airport was a vital link, connecting Mizoram with the rest of India and the world. He emphasized that the CISF taking over the security of the airport was a significant milestone for Mizoram and that of the entire northeast. Shukla said deployment of the central force will assist the state police by relieving them of airport security duties. "Although Mizoram is a very peaceful state, the recent surge in drug trafficking is a matter of concern for which the efforts of the state police alone do not suffice to combat the menace," the DGP said. Lengpui airport has become the 69th airport in the country, where the CISF has taken its security responsibilities. Airport authorities said a total of 214 CISF personnel will be deployed at the airport, with an initial deployment of 121 personnel under a deputy commandant. DGP Shukla said all CRPF personnel, who were previously overseeing the airport security, had departed early on Thursday morning, while around 70 state police personnel were also relived of their
airport security responsibilities
. However, Shukla said around eight state police staff will remain on duty within the airport premises to handle the checking of Inner Line Permits (ILP).

While two CRPF Shaurya Chakra awardees - constables Sanjay Tiwari and Feda Hussain - had engaged in a fierce terrorist encounter in Srinagar on Nov 2, 2024, and neutralised hardcore terrorists despite being injured, constable Saddam Hussain had killed a foreign terrorist three days later in a critical engagement with terrorists in Bandipora. Among 1,090 medals announced on Thursday, J&K police lead the table with 143 medals, followed by UP police with 95, CRPF with 82, BSF with 67, Maharashtra police with 49, Intelligence Bureau with 31, Gujarat police with 23, Andhra police with 22, and CBI with 21 medals. As many as 18 medals were announced for Delhi Police, including three PSM and 15 MSM. While 152 gallantry medals honour actions in Jammu and Kashmir , 54 were announced for brave acts in Left-wing extremism-hit areas, three in the North-East and 24 in other regions. Five gallantry awards will be conferred posthumously. Twelve of the 14 gallantry medal awardees from Chhattisgarh police are personnel of District Reserve Guard (DRG), which comprises mostly surrendered and former Maoists. DRG has been instrumental in blowing the cover of senior Maoist figures and has been in the lead during anti-Maoist operations in Chhattisgarh. In fact, it were DRG personnel who neutralised top Maoist Basavaraju in May this year. The awards this year, though, are operations undertaken in 2020, 2021 and 2023. Senior Chhattisgarh police officer Sunil Sharma (IPS), who as Sukma superintendent of police had led an operation that resulted in neutralisation of two Maoists, is also on the 2025 gallantry medal list.

Bombay High Court to hear plea alleging threats to north Indians by Raj Thackeray, MNS
A criminal writ petition has been filed on Thursday in the Bombay High Court against the Maharashtra government, the Mumbai Commissioner of Police, the Election Commission, and MNS chief Raj Thackeray. The petition filed by Sunil Shukla, national president of the Uttar Bhartiya Vikas Sena, a political party, alleges that he and the north Indian community in Maharashtra have been subjected to repeated incidents of hate speech, targeted violence, and serious threats to their lives and liberty. 'Over the past few months, the petitioner has been subjected to grave threats, harassment, and physical intimidation, purely because of his political identity and advocacy for north Indian rights. The situation has reached an alarming stage, with public calls to violence and actual physical assaults following thereafter,' the plea read. He cites multiple instances, including an October 6, 2024, attack at his office in Andheri, allegedly by 30 MNS supporters, and a Gudi Padwa rally on March 30, 2025, where Mr. Thackeray allegedly incited violence against Hindi-speaking residents. Following the Gudi Padwa speech, the petition documents multiple incidents of violence against Hindi-speaking individuals, including a bank manager, a security guard, and bank staff, which were reported by various news outlets in early April 2025. Mr. Shukla states that he has received numerous threats, including phone calls and messages, to 'eliminate' him. The petition also mentions threats received through phone calls and messages in April 2025 by two MNS associates, Mahindra Manji Bhanushali and Avinash Anant Jadhav. The petition includes a timeline of complaints filed by him with various authorities, alleging a lack of action. He has sent email complaints to the DGP, the Commissioner of Police-Mumbai, the Home Minister, and the Governor of Maharashtra on October 9 and 16, 2024, the petition said. He has also submitted a written complaint to the Chief Minister on October 17, 2024. He also sent a complaint to the Governor, Union Home Minister, the Election Commission, the Maharashtra government, and the Commissioner of Police on July 10, 2025, expressing frustration over the lack of action. The petition states that after exhausting all remedies and not receiving a reply, Mr. Shukla filed a Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court on April 15, 2025. The Supreme Court, in an order dated August 4, 2025, directed Mr. Shukla to approach the Bombay High Court, leading to the filing of the present petition. The petition seeks police protection for the petitioner and his family and the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Mr. Thackeray.

DRG personnel injured in IED blast in Bijapur
Raipur: A personnel of District Reserve Guards (DRG) suffered injuries in an IED blast triggered by Maoists in insurgency-hit Bijapur district in Bastar division on Thursday. Police officials said that a joint team of DRG and Special Task Force (STF) came under attack during an anti-Naxal operation in Indravati area of Bijapur, when an IED went off. It's not clear if the IED was commanded or pressured. Officials confirmed that the injured trooper's condition is out of danger. He was given first aid on the spot and is being evacuated for further medical treatment. In another development, security forces carried out anti-Naxal operations against Maoist activities in the Pamed and Tarrem areas of Bijapur district in Bastar division, demolishing a Maoist memorial and seizing a cache of explosives and weapons from forest hideouts on Thursday. A joint team of CoBRA battalion from Sukma, and CRPF launched an offensive in Pamed region. During the operation, forces demolished a Maoist-built memorial in the forests of Urtamalla. The teams had moved towards Gundrajgudem, Badsenpalli, Mangaltor, and Urtamalla as part of the search mission, officials said.
