CISF takes official charge of Mizoram's Lengpui airport

Aizawl: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Thursday officially assumed full security responsibilities for Lengpui airport, near Aizawl, following directives from the ministry of home affairs.
A reception ceremony was held at the airport terminal building to mark the occasion, with state
DGP Anil Shukla
as the chief guest.
During the ceremony, DGP Shukla said the airport was a vital link, connecting Mizoram with the rest of India and the world. He emphasized that the CISF taking over the security of the airport was a significant milestone for Mizoram and that of the entire northeast. Shukla said deployment of the central force will assist the state police by relieving them of airport security duties. "Although Mizoram is a very peaceful state, the recent surge in drug trafficking is a matter of concern for which the efforts of the state police alone do not suffice to combat the menace," the DGP said. Lengpui airport has become the 69th airport in the country, where the CISF has taken its security responsibilities. Airport authorities said a total of 214 CISF personnel will be deployed at the airport, with an initial deployment of 121 personnel under a deputy commandant. DGP Shukla said all CRPF personnel, who were previously overseeing the airport security, had departed early on Thursday morning, while around 70 state police personnel were also relived of their
airport security responsibilities
. However, Shukla said around eight state police staff will remain on duty within the airport premises to handle the checking of Inner Line Permits (ILP).

Centre plans elaborate security measures for Amarnath Yatra
The central government has decided to put in place several security measures for the annual Amarnath Yatra to ensure safety of the pilgrims, including paramilitary cover for convoys and deployment of additional paramilitary forces along the route, officials said on Saturday. The pilgrimage, scheduled to begin on July 3 and end on August 9, is being held amid a high security alert following Operation Sindoor which was triggered by the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 22 civilians. One of the routes for the trek to the shrine crosses through Pahalgam. Earlier, horizontal access roads to the shrine were blocked for regular traffic by the region's traffic police and local volunteers. 'This time, because of the high alert, there will be teams of paramilitary force personnel, who will also secure entry points to the highway. The number of personnel at each point will depend on the location of the access point, topography and the population of the area,' an officer aware of the details said. The officer said that several security review meetings have been held over the last few weeks to take stock of the preparations for the yatra, the duration of which is 38 days this year compared to 52 last year. Every convoy escorted by paramilitary forces will have a jammer to add an extra layer of security, the officer said. 'Convoys were always bunched up in large numbers and escorted by police teams in the past. This time, while the horizontal access roads are already blocked and secured, the escort vehicles themselves will have cell phone jammers. This is an additional layer of security,' the officer said. Separately, the MHA has sanctioned 581 companies of paramilitary forces, up from last year's 510, the officer said. The 581 companies include all the central armed police forces — CRPF, BSF, CISF, SSB and ITBP. CRPF, however, will have the highest number of personnel deployed for security with 219 companies. The sanctioned strength of one CRPF company is around 120-130 depending on the location. CRPF, which already has a large contingent in J&K as part of the internal security and counter terror roles, is the nodal agency for all agencies during the Yatra. The number does not include those from the J&K police and the Indian Army contingents. 'The additional companies from across the country will start moving towards the valley by the end of this week. At all remote locations, personnel will have access to satellite phones so that communication is not affected under any circumstances. All these measures are in addition to all the usual measures like having road opening parties(ROPs), bomb disposal squad(BDS), K9 teams and drones for surveillance. Police verification of all civilian workers, including Yatra Niwas volunteers, pony riders and shopkeepers will also start soon,' the second official said.

17 year old Aastha killed by her own mother for talking to her boyfriend
The body of a 17 year old girl named Aastha was found near a canal in the Partapur region of Meerut on Friday. She was murdered by none other than her own mother and her family members and was beheaded using a bolt cutter, said the police. Police have arrested Rakesh Devi (mother), 40, Monu, 26, Kamal Singh, 56, Samar Singh, 54, and a 14-year-old minor in connection to this crime. Another accused, identified as Gaurav, of Hapur, is absconding. Aastha's mother Rakesh Devi caught her talking to her boyfriend on Wednesday in Darula, Devi along with her family members first strangled her to death and decapitated her using a bolt cutter, said Meerut SSP Vipin Tada, as quoted by TOI . SSP said, in order to prevent anyone from identifying her body, the head was thrown in the Ganga canal which is yet to be recovered. The rest of the body was wrapped in a cloth and thrown in the Bahadurpur canal. The crime came to light on Thursday when a local farmer spotted the body in the canal. The clothes helped police identify the victim and led the cops to her lover. "A police team retrieved the body. An FIR under sections 103(1) (murder) and 238 (destruction of evidence) of BNS was filed at Partapur police station. A forensic team also collected samples and evidence from the spot," said SSP Tada. Live Events The family initially tried to mislead the police by claiming that Aastha had left home for school on Wednesday morning but did not return till evening. After failing to locate her, they filed a missing complaint. Meerut SSP Vipin Tada told TOI, "Aastha came into contact with a man on social media around eight months ago and developed a relationship, which enraged her family. Her father is a CRPF personnel posted in Chhattisgarh and was clueless about the crime."

Five Naxalites gunned down in encounters in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district
Bijapur, Five Naxalites were killed in two encounters with security forces in an ongoing operation in the Indravati National Park area of Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, police said on Saturday. With the latest casualties, seven Naxalites, including top leaders Sudhakar and Bhaskar, were neutralised in the operation in the last three days, they said. "Security forces have recovered the bodies of seven Maoists during the ongoing anti-Naxal operations in the Indravati National Park area of the district," a senior police official said. On Saturday, two bodies were recovered following a gunfight, while three were found after the exchange of fire on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, he said. The official said the operation involving personnel from the state police's Special Task Force and District Reserve Guard as well as the CRPF's specialised unit CoBRA, was launched on June 4 based on input about the presence of Maoist leader Sudhakar, Telangana State Committee member Bandi Prakash, Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee member Pappa Rao, and a few other armed cadres. On Friday, security forces neutralised Bhaskar alias Mailarapu Adellu, a special zonal committee member of the Telangana State Committee of Maoists who carried a reward of ₹45 lakh in Chhattisgarh and Telangana, and Maoists' central committee member Narasimha Chalam alias Sudhakar, who had a bounty of ₹40 lakh in Chhattisgarh, was killed on Thursday, he said. The official said the identity of five more killed Naxalites, two of them women, is yet to be ascertained. A huge cache of arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles, has been seized in the operation, he said, adding that search and area domination operations were underway in the surrounding forested terrain to track remaining Maoist cadres and ensure complete sanitisation of the region. A few security personnel have suffered injuries due to snakebite, honeybee sting, dehydration and other operational injuries during the operation and were provided medication, the official said. The outlawed CPI general secretary Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju was neutralised in the Bastar region on May 21.
