Prince William is all for conservation, but if you're meeting Robert Irwin, he has one very specific heads-up: be ready for whatever might come out of his pockets.
The 43-year-old royal made a surprise appearance on BBC Radio 2 via voice note on Tuesday, June 24, during Irwin's guest segment with host Scott Mills.
As the Australian wildlife photographer fielded questions from listeners about tiger teeth and elephant populations, Mills, 51, teased 'we've got one more' message — which turned out to be from the future king himself.

'Good morning, Scott, or should I say, G'day, Scott?' William began. 'I know you've got the fantastic Robert Irwin on the show this morning, a brilliant ambassador for the Earthshot Prize.'

William went on to invite both Mills and Irwin to the next Earthshot Prize ceremony, set to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this November. 'It's going to be a fantastic event, great show,' he said.

Then came the warning.
'Just beware, Scott, that Robert likes to pull random terrifying animals and creatures out of his pockets while he's on anyone's show and talking to them, so just watch your back at all times,' the heir to the British throne said. 'That tarantula or something doesn't suddenly pop onto your desk.'
The 21-year-old wildlife expert — and son of the late Steve Irwin — became a Global Ambassador for the Earthshot Prize in 2024 and has since appeared alongside William at multiple events. The two were last seen together at the Earthshot Awards in Cape Town that November, where they bonded over their favorite African animals (a cheetah for William, a chameleon for Robert) in a video they shared on both of their Instagram accounts.

The Earthshot Prize, founded by William's Royal Foundation charity in 2020, awards five annual winners £1 million (around $1.27 million USD) each to scale innovative solutions for the planet's most urgent problems. Categories include nature protection, air quality, ocean revival, waste reduction, and climate repair.

'For Prince William, who has such a great platform, to lend his voice, his resources to creating positive change is such a refreshing, wonderful thing to see,' the animal advocate told People in November 2023. 'I applaud what he is doing.'

Two Long Islanders were arrested over the weekend after pummeling one another at a park in front of a cheering crowd during a face-off promoted on social media. More than 70 spectators in their early to mid-20s packed Melville's Walt Whitman Park to catch a glimpse of what police called an unauthorized 'fight club' early Sunday evening, according to Newsday. But the clash was cut short by the cops — who caught wind of the event after it was publicized on Instagram, the report said. The crowd quickly scattered, but the battered brawlers stayed put and were cuffed by officers. 3 Suffolk County police broke up a 'fight club' meeting at a park in Melville, N.Y. This New A.I. Trend Asks "Where's Mama?" Since the birth of internet chat bots, users have been toying with machine logic. We ask our Alexas and Siris a myriad of hypothetical questions on a daily basis, sometimes yielding alarming- or endearing results. Though sites like ChatGPT and Google Gemini are able to answer simple queries in an instant, users have discovered a way that they lack nuance- and it's oddly charming. This screen cap posted by user @ultravioletllove via Instagram poses the question to Google AI, "Help I'm a baby burger where's my mom." The AI is informed enough to know everything about burgers, but lacks the nuance to know that a burger would not be using the site. Upon finding this post, I did my own searching as various animals and objects. Here's what I found... My first search as a kitten yielded the expected results- as well as my second search as a cupcake. Google also suggested nearby bakeries where I may find my "mom" as a baby cupcake. This search phenomenon is weird, cute, and somewhat telling of the current state of AI chat bots. Although we poke fun at the lack of nuance present in AI, it feels more and more as if this is a temporary thing. One day, will the results yield the answer "you can't be using AI as a kitten or a burger?" I argue that even if AI as a whole advances enough to gain a human level of nuance, it is in the best interest of us, as well as the leading companies in the industry to keep playing along. But for the time being, this search anomaly is a fun way to kill time- and useful if you do happen to be a burger or kitten. This is for the AI Creative Fellowship
