Liverpool have decided to postpone some planned events on Tuesday to celebrate their Premier League title win following the terrifying incident at the parade on Monday
Liverpool have told staff that planned events to celebrate their Premier League title win will no longer go ahead on Tuesday. The Reds had wanted to continue the celebrations internally with staff following a long season but have been shocked by the crash which overshadowed Monday's parade.
Twenty-seven people were injured when a car ploughed into supporters on Water Street in the city centre on Monday evening. Police confirmed that a 53-year-old white British man had been arrested at the scene and the incident was not been treated as terrorism
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on Tuesday morning, Liverpool City Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram said there were "still four people who are very, very ill in hospital". He added: "We are hoping of course that they pull through."
In a statement on Monday evening, Liverpool wrote: "We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident. We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident."
And in an email seen by BBC News, the club told staff that internal events planned for Tuesday had been postponed. The email said the club 'will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities' and encouraged staff 'to come together at this time to support each other'.
Liverpool Mayor Rotheram said in a statement on Monday morning: "There is still a police presence here and a tent up at the scene and the police will continue to carry out their investigations until they are satisfied that they have collected all the evidence and that they can open Water Street and the surrounding.
"Yesterday is a complete contrast to the scene now, there is hardly anybody on the streets and yesterday there was up to one million people perhaps on these streets all with one thing in mind to show the football team that they love the admiration, the euphoria at winning the Premier League and watch their heroes go by and that's what happened to the large extent."
Former Liverpool manager and captain Sir Kenny Dalglish said: 'Shocked, horrified and deeply saddened about what happened at the end of the parade today.
'Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone and their families who have been impacted by today's tragic event. Our anthem has never felt more appropriate, You'll Never Walk Alone. Your Liverpool family are behind you."
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher wrote on X: 'Devastating end to the day… just pray everyone is ok', while ex-Reds striker Robbie Fowler posted: 'Heartbreaking news… absolutely sickened with what's happened here in Liverpool." Ex-Liverpool striker John Aldridge posted: "For all the LFC family to all the people affected from today's horrific event, YNWA."

'Are there other traces/DNA carriers of the injured party in my possession? Photos? 'And, don't forget, is there a body/corpse? All no, no no.' It is not clear when the letter was written. Brueckner spent time in the Praia de Luz area between 2000 and 2017 and had photographs and videos of himself near a reservoir. It comes as German and Portuguese investigators finished three days of searching a 120-acre stretch of land near Lagos, Portugal, on Thursday as part of attempts to source evidence to implicate Brueckner. In the searches, requested by German authorities, crews spent three days scouring scrubland and abandoned structures. Brueckner is due to be released from jail in September if no further charges are brought. He added that the accusations against him "will not hold up and that the investigation will be dropped". The letter carried on with Brueckner claiming that the case was built on "purchased witnesses" but said he understood the German legal system well and claimed it would be unlikely for him to be locked up for her disappearance. Brueckner wrote: "Now, my path is paved with misjudgements, so to speak, but from now on the whole world is watching. Not even the Braunschweig regional court will now dare to make an obvious misjudgement. It is not clear when the letter was written. This comes just a day after the latest search was called off by investigators after the appeared to have no luck in finding evidence or clues. The operation kicked off on Tuesday, June 3, with teams scouring through more than 20 plots of land east of Praia da Luz - including a cottage Brueckner was believed to be living in around the time Madeleine vanished.
