Strensall and Huntington WI celebrates 100 years in operation

Yahoo07-03-2025

A Women's Institute is celebrating a century of community involvement.
The Strensall and Huntington WI, which held its first meeting in March 1925, originally met in the 'Tin Tabernacle' Village Hall, and has met on the third Tuesday of each month at Strensall Village Hall since the late 1980s.
The WI currently counts 60 members.
To celebrate the centenary, a variety of events have been arranged.
The WI Crafty Club has created post box toppers, designed by committee member Tricia Reid, which are now in situ near Strensall and Huntington Post Offices.
The Strensall topper depicts two ladies, one dressed in 1925 attire and the other as a typical WI member of today.
The Huntington topper shows a knitted tea party with a selection of WI cakes and buns.
A social history book of WI memories has also been produced and is available for £5.
WI members will also be playing the part of nuns in a production of The Sound of Music at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre from April 29 until May 3.
A community event open to everyone has been organised for Saturday, May 10, at 7pm in Strensall Village Hall.
Meredith Towne, a costume historian, will discuss, demonstrate, and model the glitz and glamour clothes of the 1920s and 30s.
On Saturday, June 14, WI members will be involved in the Strensall Carnival, and a garden party is planned for July, with a trip for members to Shibden Hall, Halifax, in September.

Bringing the Sound of Salzburg to America!

To mark 60th anniversary of The Sound of Music To mark the 60th anniversary of the filming of The Sound of Music, we are making a statement along with our regional partners SalzburgerLand Tourismus for our international fans. So many visitors from the USA and Asia come to discover Salzburg and its spectacular natural locations due to the classic movie - and this fondness has at times led them to our Red Bulls. Advertisement To mark the anniversary of the classic that had its premiere in 1965 in New York City, SalzburgerLand is celebrating the entire year with exhibitions, concerts, city tours and a big gala in October. The locations of the films have long since become places fans have made pilgrimages to see. We are also bringing a bit of our home region along on our big showing in the US to celebrate the special connection with our brand-new Club World Cup special edition kit in an Alpine Edelweiß design. It is only logical that our new kit incorporates the famous filming locations. Our new jersey for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup combines modern design with regional identification. It represents FC Red Bull Salzburg in a special way at this important tournament and will definitely be an eye-catcher. We don't want only to impress with our kit, however, as we want to cut a good shape on the pitch in the USA too. More than 300,000 visitors come to SalzburgerLand every year to follow The Sound of Music – many of whom are from the USA, where the movie is regarded as a cult classic. With the Red Bulls going to the Club World Cup in America during the anniversary year, we have the perfect chance to combine top football in Salzburg with the film classic loved in the US.

Hisense Unveils New Ultra-Portable 4K Laser Projector

Hisense has announced the latest addition to its successful range of home entertainment projectors, claiming that the new M2 Pro is the smallest, lightest and most portable 4K model it's ever released. The lifestyle appeal of the M2 Pro is instantly obvious in its eye-catching design, which sees a roughly cubic, tan-colored body attached to a crisp metallic supporting cradle within which the projector can be rotated to get its images appearing at the right height on your wall or screen. The M2 Pro is Hisense's smallest, lightest 4K projector to date. But can still output a claimed 1300 ... More lumens of brightness. Its compact dimensions together with a surprisingly and promisingly large lens with a stylishly wide cowl complete the M2 Pro's fun feel, instantly selling the idea that this is a projector that will look good in any room in your house you put it in. Compact lifestyle projectors like the M2 Pro need to back up their portability by being easy to set up, something Hisense's new model achieves courtesy of Auto Keystone Correction and Auto Focus features, as well as Intelligent Wall Color Adaptation that can adjust the image to compensate for the colors of your walls. There's even a degree of optical zoom available to help you get the projector's pictures in the right place – a rare luxury in the portable projector market. You don't even need to worry about finding an external source for the M2 Pro, as it's equipped with Hisense's own VIDAA smart TV platform. This provides access to the world's most popular and important video streaming services, including Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Prime Video and Apple TV, putting countless hours of TV and movie content at your disposal provided you're able to connect the M2 Pro to your Wi-Fi network. The VIDAA support even extends to an integrated voice assistant, so you can initiate content searches just by telling the projector what you're looking for. The M2 Pro claims some eye-catching performance specifications for such a lifestyle-focused projector. In particular, Hisense states that it's capable of outputting 1,300 lumens of brightness in a world where truly portable projectors typically struggle to get even half that bright. This is enough brightness, potentially, to leave the M2 Pro watchable in rooms that aren't completely blacked out – another handy lifestyle touch. It's also claimed that the M2 Pro's triple laser lighting engine enables it to cover 110% of the BT 2020 color space – a remarkable suggestion given that most projectors, even high-end dedicated home theater projectors, struggle to cover even 100% of the much smaller DCI-P3 color gamut currently used for most high dynamic range mastering. The M2 Pro's DLP optical system uses Texas Instruments' XPR technology to claim a 4K resolution from a 2.087 million native micromirror count. Claims the Consumer Technology Association, at least, considers to deliver genuine 4K results. This is backed up on the M2 Pro by what Hisense describes as 'next gen AI 4K Clarity technology miniaturized,' where a suite of algorithms work in harmony to create sharper, more detailed looking images. The projector's processing includes an AI-powered 4K upscaler too, as well as AI noise reduction and even, very unusually for a lifestyle projector, an AI HDR Upscaler that optimizes contrast and highlights in the source image to create more impact. Something along the lines of the dynamic tone mapping systems deployed by many TVs these days. The Hisense M2 Pro mini projector will be available for pre-order soon for $1,299.99 at Hisense's U.S. online shop and BH Photo & Video, as well as becoming available to order in late summer through authorized resellers (a list of which can be found a — Hisense Unveils Its 2025 ULED TV Range—Including Multiple 100-Inch Models Hisense Reveals Two New Giant TVs—One Debuting Tri-Chroma LED TV Technology And One Using MicroLEDs Sony Unveils Eye-Popping Next-Gen TV Technology—And Again, It Isn't OLED

Post Box Museum hosts Bank Holiday display of knitted art

The Isle of Wight Post Box Museum offered a special Bank Holiday treat. The museum opened its doors to the public, while members of the Isle of Wight Women's Institute (WI) were treated to an exclusive preview, as these photos show. Organised by Pauline Rippon from Gurnard WI, the event showcased nearly 100 handmade post-box toppers. These were knitted and crocheted by women from across the Island. Pauline also contributed a topper representing the Alzheimer Cafe, with the slogan 'all in the same boat'. She arranged a raffle for the day. The event, which included an ice cream van, was deemed a success by all who attended. The museum was open to the public for the Bank Holiday weekend.
