Jeffrey Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre fighting for her life after car accident
Virginia Giuffre — whose story about being trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein as a teenager put her at the center of one of the biggest sex scandals in history — is fighting for her life following a car accident in Australia.
Giuffre, 41, on Sunday posted a graphic photo of herself from her hospital bed covered in bruises on Instagram, where she wrote doctors said she has four days to live, according to the post, which was first published by the British media.
'I've gone into kidney renal failure,' she said. 'They have given me four days to live, transferring me to a specialist in urology. I'm ready to go, just not until I see my babies one last time…'
She said she was struck by a speeding bus after she tried to swerve her car to avoid the collision. She did not say when or where the crash happened.
Giuffre was among the first and most outspoken victims of Jeffrey Epstein to speak out about her abuse by Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, Prince Andrew and several other prominent men. She later formed a non-profit to educate and advocate for sex trafficking victims.
'EVERYTHING CHANGED'
Born in Sacramento, California, Giuffre had been sexually abused since she was a child. She is the daughter of Lynn Trude Cabell and Sky William Roberts, who wrote on social media that he was praying for his daughter's recovery.
When she was in grade school, the family moved to Loxahatchee, Florida. At age 7, she was first molested by a family friend. The abuse, she said, 'turned my entire life around. Everything changed.'
She began running away from home, at one point, hitching a ride to San Francisco. She was 14 when she was picked up on the streets of Miami by the owner of a modeling agency who began trafficking her. After his arrest, she returned home to Loxahatchee, and began working at Mar-a-Lago, the Palm Beach country club owned by President Donald Trump where her father was a maintenance supervisor.
In 2000, when she was 16, she met Maxwell, Epstein's partner, while working as a spa attendant at the club. Giuffre, who uses the nickname Jenna, was introduced by Maxwell to Epstein, who sexually abused and trafficked her for years.
Among the people she said she was forced to have sex with was Prince Andrew, whom she later sued. The suit was settled in 2022 for an undisclosed sum, said to be in the millions, though Andrew denied that he was ever involved with Giuffre. He was later stripped of his military titles and royal patronages.
She fled Epstein's control in 2002, married an Australian martial arts instructor, Robert Giuffre, and moved to Australia. The couple has three children who are now teenagers.
PALM BEACH INVESTIGATION
While she was getting settled in Australia, police in Palm Beach began investigating Epstein in 2005. Several girls reported that they had been recruited to give him massages at his Palm Beach mansion and instead were sexually abused. The case grew as more high school girls told investigators that they had been abused by Epstein as teenagers.
But Barry Krischer, the Palm Beach State Attorney at the time, didn't want to prosecute Epstein, who had a long list of powerful friends, including former president Bill Clinton and Donald Trump.
The case was referred to the FBI in 2007. But Epstein escaped federal charges when a secret plea deal was reached between his high-powered lawyers and the U.S. Attorney in Miami, Alex Acosta. Acosta allowed Epstein to plead guilty to less serious state charges, and Epstein was sentenced to 18 months in the Palm Beach County jail in 2008. During that time, however, he was allowed to come and go almost freely, spending most days at his office or his home in Palm Beach.
Giuffre was initially reluctant to cooperate with the FBI probe. But in 2010, after the birth of her daughter, she reached out to the Justice Department again in the hopes that she would get justice.
In 2011, Giuffre told the British tabloid Mail on Sunday that she was a victim of a vast sex trafficking operation run by Epstein and Maxwell in which she traveled to and from Epstein's various homes in Manhattan, New Mexico, Palm Beach, France and to his island off of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands where she had sex with multiple men, including Prince Andrew. Maxwell denied the allegations and sued Giuffre for defamation. Giuffre countersued in federal court in New York.
EPSTEIN GETS SWEETHEART DEAL
The 2015 defamation case was settled two years later and most of the evidence was sealed. The Miami Herald sued that same year to unseal the entire case file as part of its investigative series 'Perversion of Justice,' published in 2018. Giuffre was interviewed as part of the series, along with three other victims. The story caught the attention of the U.S. Attorney's office in the Southern District of New York, which opened a new probe into Epstein's sex trafficking.
Epstein was subsequently arrested in July 2019 on sex trafficking charges brought in New York. But he was found dead in his jail cell a month later, just one day after some of the evidence in the defamation case was unsealed. His death was ruled a suicide, although his brother and a private forensic pathologist who was at the autopsy remain convinced his death was not a suicide.
Maxwell was arrested in July 2020 and convicted of child sex trafficking a few years later. Now 63, she is serving a 20-year jail sentence.
In recent years, Giuffre has advocated the release of the Epstein case files, which the FBI has kept mostly sealed for almost 20 years. Trump, elected to a second term as president in 2024, has promised to unseal the files, but his attorney general, Pam Bondi, was widely ridiculed in March when she led the public to believe she was releasing substantial evidence, then only released a binder of dated material that was already public.
TRAUMA, HEALTH ISSUES
In recent years, Giuffre has focused on her non-profit and leading a quiet life in Australia. She has been estranged from her husband and children, posting on Instagram a week ago: 'My beautiful babies have no clue how much I love them and they're being poisoned with lies,' she wrote.
Giuffre has also spoken a lot about how trauma has affected her well being. She has been ill off and on over the years, and frequently posts about her mental and physical health struggles on social media.
Dini von Mueffling, Giuffre's representative, confirmed Virginia's accident in a statement.
'Virginia has been in a serious accident and is receiving medical care in the hospital. She greatly appreciates the support and well wishes people are sending.'

Honolulu police investigate alleged child abuse after viral video
Honolulu police said they have opened an investigation into a case of alleged child abuse after a video went viral on social media. On Thursday evening, a witness scrolling through Instagram saw a post of a woman allegedly assaulting a girl. The witness was able to identify the woman and child and called 911. The Honolulu Police Department said today that officers have identified a 34-year-old woman as the child's mother, and taken her two children – an 11-year-old, autistic girl and a 3-year-old boy—into police custody and transferred them to Child Welfare Services. The viral post, shared on @hhnewz, asked, 'What would you do in this situation if you saw this ??' as a woman seated in a car at Kapolei Commons appears to yank the child by her hair so that she falls onto her knees on the pavement in a parking lot, in front of an open car door. HPD's strategic enforcement detail located the mother, along with the child and her brother, at about 10 a.m. today in the Kapolei area. Police said the Honolulu Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, Domestic Violence Section, have been notified, and are working to pursue charges against the mother. No arrests have been made, pending the ongoing investigation. 'The Honolulu Police Department takes abuse allegations seriously and urges the public to report incidents by calling 911 or visiting any police station, open 24 /7, ' HPD officials said in a social media post. Trump Appoints 22-Year-Old Ex-Gardener and Grocery Store Assistant to Lead U.S. Terror Prevention
The inexperienced 22-year-old reportedly tasked by Donald Trump with tackling U.S. extremism was working as a neighborhood gardener just five years ago and in a grocery store as recently as August 2023, the Daily Beast can reveal. Thomas Fugate, who graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio just 12 months ago, is currently heading up the Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships at the DHS, as first reported by ProPublica Tuesday. The center, also known as CP3, plays a vital role supporting nationwide efforts to combat terrorism and hate-fueled violence. But according to the youngster's LinkedIn page, Fugate has almost no experience in this field—and in 2020 was working as a self-employed 'Landscape Business Owner.' There isn't much else on his resumé to suggest Fugate has the requisite skills to weed out terrorists. Prior to his work as a gardener—while studying for a degree in politics and law—Fugate worked at an H-E-B supermarket in Austin, Texas, as a 'Cross Functional Team Member.' According to his LinkedIn, he would 'perform various activities around every department of the store, fulfilling key duties contributing to store operations.' Since leaving college, Fugate has had a meteoric rise in the political world, having served as an 'advance team member' on President Donald Trump's 2024 campaign, according to his LinkedIn page. An avowed Republican, he also interned at the Heritage Foundation, the think tank behind Project 2025, and for Texas Representatives Terry Wilson and Steve Allison. Fugate was reportedly hired as a 'special assistant' in an immigration office at the DHS in February, according to ProPublica. He then took over CP3 after its previous director quit. Fugate did not immediately respond to The Daily Beast's request for comment. 'Tom Fugate has performed well in his current role as a Confidential Assistant in our Immigration & Border Security suboffice,' a senior DHS official told The Daily Beast. 'Due to his success, he has been temporarily given additional leadership responsibilities in the Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships office (CP3). This is a credit to his work ethic and success on the job.' Fugate set up a political Instagram account last year, where his profile contains the motto, 'Men used to do great things. I believe they still can.' He has posted a number of photos from the campaign trail and his time in Washington, D.C. He also posted a video that showed him with a host of lesser lights in the Republican party, including the disgraced former congressman Madison Cawthorn, Kennedy Center President Ric Grenell, and MAGA personality Riley Gaines. He is also pictured with Texas Governor Greg Abbott and former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. An older account in the name of Trey Fugate on X suggests that he was a fan of LEGO and Star Wars. He used the social media account to call on Texas politicians 'to protect the international affairs budget!' and 'Help the global poor, save lives.' That was just two years before he launched his new MAGA personality with the thomas4texas Instagram account, saying: 'Legend has it that Thomas Fugate didn't start the fire 🔥, but that is always been burning since the world's been turning 🤔. Welcome all to my new account for public service, community involvement, and politics 🇺🇸. Recently things have got to the point where I felt like my main account has become too focused on politics, so I wanted to switch things up!' The plethora of selfies and portraits plastered across his social media accounts suggest that the wryly arched eyebrow Fugate chose for his LinkedIn profile—a photograph taken in front of the seal of the Department of Homeland Security—was very much a knowing choice from a young man who seems to think he is destined for the top.

Newsboys Respond to Sexual Assault Allegations Against Ex-Singer Michael Tait: ‘We Are Horrified, Heartbroken & Angry'
Contemporary Christian Music group Newsboys responded to recent allegations of sexual assault and drug use against former lead singer Michael Tait, who abruptly stepped away from the group in January. On Wednesday, The Roys Report published what it referred to as a two-and-a-half-year investigation into allegations against Tait. The outlet claims it spoke with more than 50 sources, including three people who claim that Tait groomed and sexually assaulted them while touring or at Tait's home. The accusers allege that the incidents took place between 2004 and 2014. Multiple people in the report also claimed that Tait was involved in drug use. More from Billboard The Weeknd Wanders Through Purgatory in 'Baptized in Fear' Music Video Miley Cyrus Says Madonna 'Was Down' to Mud Wrestle in a '4x4' Music Video, But Her Label Said No Belinda's 'Indómita' Album & More Best New Music Latin In an Instagram post on Thursday, the group's four current members — Jeff Frankenstein, Jody Davis, Duncan Phillips and Adam Agee — responded to the allegations, writing, 'Last night our hearts were shattered when we read the news alleging drug abuse and inappropriate sexual actions by our former lead singer, Michael Tait. While Michael has not addressed these allegations, we are devastated by even the implications. 'First and foremost, our hearts are with the victims who have bravely shared their stories,' the band's message continued. 'If you are a victim, we urge you to come forward. We absolutely do not condone any form of sexual assault. The four of us are husbands and fathers. Between the four of us, we have fourteen children. Our wives and children have made many sacrifices while we have dedicated our lives to playing music together that glorifies God. We are horrified, heartbroken and angry at this report and in many ways, we feel as if we and our families have been deceived for the past fifteen years.' Tait has not released a public response to the allegations contained in the report, and Billboard has not yet successfully reached him or a representative. A Newsboys rep did not respond to comment beyond the band's statement. Tait stepped down from his role in Newsboys in January just days before the group launched the second leg of their Worldwide Revival Nights Tour. At the time, Tait issued a statement, saying, 'I have made for me what is a monumental and heartfelt decision that it is time to step down from Newsboys. This decision does not come lightly and has been a shock to even myself, but amidst prayer and fasting, I have clarity that this is the right decision.' He joined Newsboys as their lead singer in 2009 following the exit of Peter Furler. Tait is also known for his founding role in the groundbreaking CCM group DC Talk from 1988-2001. That group, which also included TobyMac and Kevin Max, had such hits as 'Jesus Freak,' 'What If I Stumble?' and the Billboard Hot 100 hit 'Between You and Me.' Their 1995 album Jesus Freak, with its pop and hip-hop fusions, reached No. 16 on the all-genre Billboard 200 and won a Grammy for best rock gospel album. In 2000, the band went on hiatus, and Tait launched a decadelong solo career before joining Newsboys.
